Some pictures of the snow..............

We don't usually get much snow to speak of so I put on my heavy coat and two pair of socks with my boots and went outside to take these, hope you enjoy ;o)

Down the street:

Tree in my front yard:

Anyone want to play horseshoes? That's the top of the horseshoe pit poles lol:

The cow pasture in my back yard:

Brrrrr it was cold and since my metal roof seems to be one of the ones that shed snow it was also dangerous (yeah right lol)..but I did have to watch out for snow sliding down off the roof. ;o)

Zipper,
We're in Central Texas and didn't get much more than a dusting, although it was more than I wanted to see!
Your photos are lovely, but frankly, they look more like Minnesota than Texas! Thanks for braving the cold and falling snow slides from the roof. Maybe we'll be able to post pictures of greenery and sunshine soon!

Same scenery that I woke up to in East Texas. I want to see daffodils and pink magnolias.

Wonderful picture. I love our cardinals. We don't have as many Blue Jays as we did several years ago. They are such fun to watch in the bird baths and fountain-too funny. I think West Nile practically wiped them out around here. I so enjoy snowy days like this. A lot of the birds sit on the deck all puffed up to keep warm, everything is so clean and quiet, and the yard looks magical-can't see those weeds-lol. Our snow started just when it was predicted (9 am), but we are supposed to have only 2-4" or 1-2" depending on the line of the storm. Lots of starlings (greedy things) at the feeders. I keep chasing them away, so the others can get their share and now they have all seemed to disappear. I am hoping we get as much snow as all our Tarheel and Virginia neighbors further south! Time to check the weekend trivia on the other side! Stay cozy all.

Sharon - So good to hear from you again. My sincere sympathies on all the moving troubles - it seems like a nightmare! Moving in the best of circumstances is no fun, but your experience sounds dreadful. When we first moved into our old farm house we discovered that the boxsprings (double) wouldn't go up the stairs, so DH sawed the wooden structure in half and we folded them. (The replacements had split box springs.) We also discovered that the new living room couch was too wide for all of the doors into the house, so that had to go into storage until we were able to replace one door( which needed replacing anyway) with wider ones. Glad that your husband has a job and best wishes on finding one yourself. Does your townhouse have a place that you can garden, either in the ground or in pots? If so, I imagine you can attend one of the plant swaps - in my experience folks are thrilled to be able to give plants to someone just getting started & you don't need to bring anything. If you were closer you'd be welcome to come by & pick up a plant or 10.

Snow on the Mountain?
Q
Comments (11)
Based on the short upper leaves, it is Snow-on-the-Mountain (Euphorbia marginata). I only have the related one, Snow-on-the-Prairie (Euphorbia bicolor), which has longer, more narrow upper leaves. How invasive it might be could depend on your soil and annual rainfall. Our snow on the prairie grows in pastures where it spreads rampantly. We mostly control it with strategic mowing that cuts it down before the seeds mature. When it pops up in the shrub beds near the house or in the fenced veggie garden, I yank it out. It might be easy to control if you clip off the flowers before they go to seed. Because we stay hot and dry most of the time, it never has gotten invasive in our pastures, but I have seen some pastures in Texas and Oklahoma that are simply filled with either Snow on the Prairie or Snow on the Mountain, so it seems like, if the conditions are right, it spreads pretty easily. Both Snow on the Prairie and Snow on the Mountain are euphorbias and have the milky sap common to euphorbias. With some people that milky sap causes contact dermatitis that results in a rash. It doesn't bother me, but I know people whose skin gets irritated if it makes contact with the milky sap.

I was wondering about you. Glad you were able to get out. Snow can be lovely to look at, when you don't have to drive in it, and when it doesn't hang around long.

:)

Nice shots Zipper! Thanks for suiting up and sharing.

Thanks for looking everybody, now the snow is sliding off my roof with a vengeance lol, I jump every time I catch a bunch of it falling out of the corner of my eyes it's like a body jumping or falling off hahaha.......

No green or blossoms of any sort, my flower beds are completely covered in this stuff and my hedges look like somebody took an ax to them and parted them down the center (the snow is landing right in the middle when it falls) lol...I hope this snow is good for them.

Hi Zipper! We just left Gainesville Monday so I'm glad we missed the snow! We didn't encounter any snow on the way there or on the way back, thankfully. When did it actually snow? Wasn't it just yesterday? I thought it was yesterday cuz my step-son posted pictures yesterday of a snowmman he built. Anyway, I forgot my cell phone at our hotel (the Super 8 on I-35) and when I called them Sunday morning after we left, they said they would send it to me COD. Well, I still haven't gotten it, so I called today and they said it's been snowy there all week and they haven't been able to get it to the post office yet. GRRRRR.
OH, and enjoy the snow!

Ya Tammy I'm sorry we didn't get a chance to meet up, I know your time is taken up with family but one of these days we're going to have to meet each other lol. It started snowing yesterday morning and it didn't stop until around 4 this morning from what I understand.

Kathy is that South Carolina? When we lived there, Shaw AFB got a coating of sleet, and it was thick, kept my kids entertained for two days with a sheet of plexi-glass and the hilly terrain behind our house lol.

I know Moni, she sailed past me too lol. ((((Tammy))))

You are so right Sheliajoyce, it's a lot better to get it off the roof, but it does make neighbor entertaining moves when you try to get out of the house ;o)

Thanks Liz, I hope you are in being all warm and cozy while you enjoy your snow.

Thanks everybody, at the end of the day I still have a bunch on the roof and the yard is still covered, we went to Don's Barbecue for Supper which provided us a great view of all the snow for several miles, even the junky places were beautiful. :)

Nite nite all!

Zipper and Moni,

I'm sorry. :o( We are never there very long though. We arrived Friday night, had my step-daughter's wedding and reception Saturday, and left for home first thing Sunday morning. As we were half way through Oklahoma (we took I-35 all the way through!) I realized I'd left my phone in the room. I sure wish they'd hurry up and send it to me.

The trip was a little rough, but the wedding was really nice. My step-daughter looked so beautiful. She is only 19, so she really was a "beautiful young bride". I posted pics at my web-site if you would like to see. Dd was one of the bridesmaids.

Every time we go I think of you Zipper. And Moni, I didnt' know you were so close, too. Next time, I am just going to have to MAKE TIME to see you guys!
