Can someone help with this Gorham Silver Tray?

I was just curious if this is something of value or just something.

It is a Gorham Silver piece and has a label and engraving on the back.

Anyone have an idea?

Hard to be sure without actually seeing it, but I would say it is very nice silver plate, but not particularly valuable. The decoration is pretty but not intricate, and it looks as though the silver might have worn off the copper base in several places.

I'd give it a good polishing to see what is tarnish and what is wear, and then just enjoy it.

If it's sterling, it'll be marked as such.

You should never worry about how MUCH water per cycle. I'm a believer in DELUGES of water, but only when it's time to water. Large quantities of water, as it drains rapidly (hopefully) from the drainage holes, saturate the soil volume with a fresh and much needed oxygen supply! Remember, roots need oxygen every bit as much as they need water. How often is a question that cannot be answered easily. That depends on too many factors that only you can determine. Pot size, plant vigor, time of year, room temperature and relative humidity, container type, sunlight, plant type, size of plant to pot ratio, consistency of potting medium, etc. Have I left anything out?????? In my experience of not only growing my own plants, but solving cultural issues for clients, the single most beneficial factor for healthy, care-free house plants is a coarse, fast draining potting medium.

Please do not mosaic it!! Sliver plate tarnishes as well as sterling...sterling is solid silver of an alloy that 925 parts of 1000 pure silver, plate is a thin coating of silver over over something like copper or nickel silver. Because it tarnishes tells you nothing of the quality. It could be a piece of 1940's electroplate silver, or it might be a piece of Old Sheffield hand made silverplate made in England before 1850. I am sorry but I just don't know what those marks mean...I have a book that may offer some hints, but i don't know for sure. But I do know that it's a very good piece. Way too good to cover up with mosaic. Can you take a better picture of the marks? And perhaps a picture of the bottom and a close up of the edge of the top....that band around the edge. Nope......likely he doesn't know a thing about 'Old Sheffield". Old Sheffiend was a way of creating plated ware before electroplating. A layer of copper and pure ( not sterling...but pure silver) were rolled together creating a "sandwich" of silver and copper and things were made from that....and if things were to be trimmed, as in the grapes etc on your tray, those decorations were often made from sterling and applied. Also...often the back side of an old Sheffield tray ot the inside of a coffee pot would not even be plated with silver....just tin or even base metal. And old sheffield often is unmarked and never says "silver on copper" or "sheffield plate" I hope the jeweler with his little dab of acid didn't destroy some of the value of your tray. Never ever allow anyone to dab some acid on a piece of silver.

Well, I heard back from the lady I thought might be able to help you find the perfect tray, but I think it might be a bust. She located three trays she said are very close to your inspiration pic, one 24 inches and the other 25 inches and around $650-750. Bad part, they are new. :( The other she found is 31 inches and circa 1850, sounds perfect, right? Then I heard the price, $6500. Had to pick my jaw up of the floor and think that the 1st Dibs tray is looking especially good now, even though I already thought it was a cool piece. By the way, did you see the marble tray in the WSJ this weekend? Probably not what you want since you have an inspiration room with a great silver tray, but what a great piece. Anyway, good luck with your continued search. Hope you have success this week in NYC.

I think it's really pretty - I like how simple the pattern is. This was about as close as I could find...so assuming it's not sterling...not valuable, but if it cleans up nicely, still a nice piece.

If it's real, there'll be a mark of some type~925, 9.25, S/S, if not on the bottom center, look along the rim on the backside. Take it to a local antique store/mall where someone there may be a pro on SS.

Thanks everyone! It is marked silver. I will keep you posted if I find anything exciting! I doubt it though.
