I was on Warfarin for 6 months 4 years ago and noticed my hair coming out terribly. I joined a blood clot list and several people there suggested taking 5000 mg of Biotin once a day. Some of them said it helped theirs grow back. Mine never did and I am so glad it was very thick to begin with. However, it did stop it from falling out like it was and I noticed about 3 months later my nails became nice and hard. Don't have any solutions but sure do relate...I've noticed lately I'm getting looser skin,weight gain...and that memory loss, definitley not a qwick thinker anymore...not much energy to think of, Seaecho, described that perfectly...Although I believe seeing a Dr once in a while, just for emergencies mostly,(only if your not sure of self or of those around you and if whatever is bothering you.. doesn't go away on own then I will seek out the medical field)...I think Dr's in general care but sometimes I think it's often over exaggerated and they overworked...This is just my own humble opinion...Sorry I didn't mean to get way off here....but I would try natural remedies 1st. And as hubby and I both realised we're not young but feel getting some form of exercise will improve it....So we got a Total Gym 1700...It's a very useful piece of equipment that helps us get toned up and accomodates a few aches and pains of our own...Still could use an cardio program though...maybe a nice trim exercise bike...Yes, could probably take a walk around the house a few times but I don't care for the cold weather...I'm a wimp! Just listen to your body, read up what ever you can, I beleive knowledge helps you understand...ANd I hope you and all here WELLNESS... Juanita

Janice, like many others I waited so long to try Rogaine. But I did try it on June 27th. Just a small amount in one spot to see if I had any reactions (the burning and itching) that some people had experienced. All I felt was just a SLIGHT burning. I gathered up my courage and used a full dropper for my evening dose and have been using Rogaine (the 5% extra strength MEN'S forumula) ever since that day. It's been about 14 weeks since I started it, and I *do* see a difference in my hair. Like you, I was scared to see more shedding than I had been going through before I began the treatment. Before using Rogaine I was shedding hair allll day long. I'm looking at my journal now.... hmmm.... okay in the middle of July (about 2-3 weeks after starting the Rogaine I reached a peak shedding incident when I counted 76 hairs that fell out onto the bathroom vanity after I had washed and just fluffed my hair very gently with my fingers. THAT was scary, but I decided to keep up the routine with the Rogaine. It took a lot of faith to do that, but then about a week later only 36 fell out after a shampoo. On Aug. 23 there were only SIXTEEN hairs that fell out. Now I have about that many shedding hairs, sometimes much less. I figured an AVERAGE is just that... some days I am going to have more and some days less, but I would say on average it is less than 16 a day, sometimes I see only 5 or 6 fall out! Wheeeeeeeee!!!! I am thrilled with what the Rogaine has done for me. I have little hairs, about an inch or two long over much of the crown of my head now. The other day I even got a compliment on my hair. Not only does it look thicker, it feels thicker, too. Just a couple more things... I had been under a very big amount of stress the last few years. I first noticed the hair loss after having surgery and having to wait for the biopsy results, negative, thank God, but the hair thinning sent me to the dermatologist, who diagnosed me as having telogen effluvium (TE). I waited and watched some regrowth, but then I had to deal with marital problems. Every time I made some progress, something seemed to set me back. I begain seeing a marriage counselor (by myself...husband refuses to go). Just talking to her reduced my stress levels enormously. i highly recommend this option to others who feel that stress is contributing to your hair loss. This has been long, but I hope it has given you some guidance in making your decision as to use Rogaine or not. I know that there were times that I was really frightened by the initial shedding, but I just kept using that great stuff twice a day. :-) take care... daisy

I would have expected that 'stay out of the sun' was because risk of sunburn increased when taking the med. I'd never have suspected it meant my hair could react and fall out! My sister's doctor tried to get her to take some migraine meds a few years back. The doctor told her the first time she took this med, she would have to do so at the clinic and stay there a certain amount of time after she took it. My sister asked why. The doctor told her one of the potential side effects was 'sudden death'. LOL! My sister looked at the doctor (and this was during a migraine that had been debilitating her for nearly two weeks at that point) and my sister told the doctor 'it doesn't hurt that bad'! For some reason she and I just got to laughing when she told me about this on the phone! Why 'sudden death' as a potential side effect should crack us up, I don't know. But it did! Or maybe it was her reaction of 'it doesn't hurt that bad' that did it!
