A book about something in your life, what would the title be and what would the subject?

I didn't want to hi-jack SamKarens post and terrific news about her book, but it got me to thinking.

When we owned and operated a small motel, so many funny things happened interacting with the public. I often said I should write a book about these funny snippits. Some of the gals who worked for and with me, had stories too. One day I went into one of the suites to clean after a family lived there for a couple weeks while repairs were being done on their house. When I went into the bathroom, I took one look and said, "There is the title of my book" .....

NOODLES IN THE BATHTUB. The people must have had a crockpot of soup and dumped it into the tub. LOL Dottie

If anyone was doing any jilting, it was me. Both of you said very nice things about my writing and I responded with - resounding silence. I could portray it as revenge for all those women who were ever told "I'll call you" and never received a call. But the truth is, I got busy for a couple of days and then got zapped by a storm that took out the network server. No internet access for a couple of days, and then a couple of more days chasing down the lingering problems. I'm pretty sure Thoreau never had these problems with his pencils. But now it's time to say a sincere thank you to both of you for your kind words. You (plural form) have encouraged me to get serious about setting a goal and getting it accomplished. I already have taken the time to think out my first steps. Now it's time to start cracking those eggs. INK, I would be happy to read your book when you write it. Even if you aren't bubbly and never marry Poppa. Poppa, I think your second idea has some real potential. It may not be whimsical given the realities of GMOs today, but it could be cast as a cautionary tale like The Lorax. And Dr. Seuss was old, too. (Just teasing!) So get busy writing... both of you. V.

Can you write off interest you only accrue?
Q
Comments (11)
ah, but you *have* actually "paid" it. You are paying for it on credit, by increasing the balance owed on your mortgage, instead of with cash, but you are paying for it all the same. I'm not 100% positive, but my guess would be it's true. The deduction is for interest accrued on your mortgage debt, not on the payments you make to pay down your debt. The IRS doesn't normally care if you "pay" for deductible expenses with cash, credit, or what. In this case, you certainly are "paying" the interest, you are just paying it on credit (adding it to your mortgage balance) instead of paying it out of your bank account. All one and the same to the IRS. Smart guys. (While I'm not one to usually praise the IRS, in this case they're right. Money spent is money spent, using credit doesn't change that.) Now, eventually, you would still have to actually start paying down your mortgage balance, and if it's true you get the tax deduction when the interest accrued, you wouldn't get it again when you actually do pay it. So at that point that you would be "paying" the mortgage company the back-accrued interest but *not* getting the deduction.

Hi Anj, your food all sounds yummy! I've had "gumbo" before but never had jambalaya. I did a search to see exactly what it is. Sounds good with the meats, rice and veggies. What is your "fried down squash"? I cook zuchinni in a skillet with a little melted butter and then add a dollop of sour cream after it has cooked and softened a bit. My DS loves it, but your dish might be a good one to try too. I am always looking for easy, quick things to cook. Sure wish my DH liked a wider variety of foods--I tend to only cook the veggie dishes when we have company over. I used to subscribe to Quick and Easy Cooking magazine--think the name then changed to Simple and Delicious or something like that. Anyway, I really liked it because they had lots of pictures, and the foods were things submitted by "real" people. I hate the recipes that list fifteen ingredients, none of which you ever have on hand! LOL You always have the best luck at your TS don't you? Wow! You got some great things this time. I love the words on the stitchery--so sweet. And those crocks and bobbins sound like a good find too. I thought about you always making or buying things for your brother the other day when I saw a neat fish shape about 14 inches long that held three small pictures. Then there was also a wooden plaque with a cutout boat and oar shape. They were both cute for someone who liked fishing stuff. I've not been finding allot of good stuff, but I sure enjoy looking. I usually tell myself that I will not buy anything that costs more than $3.00--but I did make an exception for a silver teapot the other day. I also bought a small overnight case for $3.99 that I want to paint roses on, and I picked up a nice round piece of wood that is going to be perfect for two patterns in the new Painting mag that I just got in the mail. I'm actually thinking about painting one design on one side and another design on the reverse side. Might just use a screw eye hook in the top to hang it by. Oh, I almost forgot, I also bought a fairly large pitcher with pretty vegetables on it. So are you going to plant flowers in your old wood stove? I'm pretty sure I've seen a pic of one over on the GJ forum. We just never have enough storage space do we? Even with just the two of us, we need more. And you have all kinds of kids items to store in addition to your own "goodies", huh? Your plan for getting some painting time in sounds good. Even if it only works out a couple days a week, you'll enjoy that. My routine is all out of whack with DH home now. I like to do my housework, laundry, yardwork, etc. in the early morning and then have the afternoons free. But if he wants to sleep in later or watch television when he gets up, it messes that all up because I have to keep the noise down. I'm just trying to "relax" and go with the flow. It really doesn't matter when it gets done, and it will always be waiting for me when I get to it! LOL I met the gals I used to work with for lunch today, then DH and I went over to the mall to try out the sleep number mattress again. Then we grabbed a bite to eat at a 50's diner and then went to see "Swing vote" with Kevin Costner at the movies. It was an okay show with some good laughs. I'll tell you the one I really want to see after seeing the previews tonight is "Hollywood Chihuahuas". We were laughing out loud just seeing the preview. ;o) I still want to see The Mummy, but DH says "not yet". Are you interested in Dark Knight? I'm not sure whether I want to see it or not--might just wait till it's out on video. Well, this is really a long post here, I'd better hit preview and move on. I'll talk to you again soon. Luvs

Can you write about Jean-Pierre Vibert, the rose breeder in France in
Q

on Ralph Moore: Ralph S. Moore (January 14, 1907 – September 14, 2009) was an American rose breeder. He is known by many as the “Father of the Modern Miniature Rose”. During his career, Moore developed over 500 new varieties of miniature roses, including the award-winning 'Rise n' Shine' and 'Anne Moore'. Moore was born in Visalia, California. He began growing roses at a young age, and he was soon hooked. He started his first nursery in 1937, and he began breeding roses in the early 1940s. Moore was one of the first rose breeders to focus on miniature roses, and he was instrumental in popularizing them. He developed a number of successful miniature rose varieties, including 'Rise n' Shine', which was introduced in 1956. 'Rise n' Shine' was a huge success, and it helped to make miniature roses a popular choice for gardeners. Moore continued to breed roses until his death in 2009. He developed over 500 new varieties of roses, and he is considered one of the most influential rose breeders of the 20th century. His work has had a profound impact on the rose industry, and his roses are enjoyed by gardeners all over the world. Some of Moore's most popular roses include: 'Rise n' Shine': A miniature rose with small, double blooms of a light pink color. 'Anne Moore': A miniature rose with small, double blooms of a deep pink color. 'Sugar 'n' Spice': A miniature rose with small, double blooms of a light yellow color. 'Tom Thumb': A miniature rose with small, single blooms of a deep red color. 'Fairy': A miniature rose with small, double blooms of a light pink color. Moore's roses are available from a variety of nurseries, both online and in person. They are also sometimes available at garden centers and other retail stores. When choosing a Moore rose, it is important to consider the climate in which you live. Some of Moore's roses are better suited for warmer climates, while others are better suited for cooler climates. It is also important to consider the amount of sunlight your garden receives. Some of Moore's roses need full sun, while others can tolerate partial shade. With proper care, Moore's roses will provide you with years of enjoyment. They are a beautiful addition to any garden, and they make a wonderful gift for rose lovers of all ages. "Special Delivery" my tales of the odd things I saw inside (and outside) the homes of people I delivered pizza to during my 12 year career in that industry.

Some highlights:

The homes with a $5000 wide screen TV so big you had to squeeze past it to get from the living room to the dining room. No other furniture in the living room.

Stoned customers, drunk customers, half naked customers (NEVER good looking females), 'My husband isn't home yet with the money' customers, bi**hing customers complaining that we don't automatically supply styrofoam cups with the 2 liter sodas (Did you ask? No.)

My personal favorite - after dark, approaching a house with the living room window right in line with the walkway. Framed in the light, a girl of perhaps 20, from the shoulders up, no visible clothing, moving up & down a few inches. Afer a closer look, I spotted two sneaker-clad male legs on either side of her head. You do the math.

Man, did I enjoy ringing the bell THAT time! Pizzaus Interruptus!

"It's a Dog's Life," a comedy starring the Harry Dog; he puts Marley to shame. As Wes was reading the book he kept laughing and saying "been there, done that!" and saying how they should try to manage Harry if they think Marley is frisky. LOL

I haven't read the book. We lost dear BeeGee to Gastric Tortion, and I know it plays a part in Marley's story. I couldn't bear the tears.

If I were going to name it, it would be: "The Only Child in a Large Family"

You all have some intriguing titles. Start writing!

Texas is a Whole 'nother Country" is my book title--I'd include "D.L., Janelle and the Holey Bra", "Fat Boy's Funeral" and "Consecutive vs. Concurrent Sentences--a Family Story" as chapters.
Heck, I think I'll start writing now . . . .

You Can't do It Yourself, Stupid.
I have a chapter for today called - don't try to replace the cartridge in the shower. I decided I need a tool to remove it. I put it back together only to find no water will come out. Apparently I jammed the cartridge. So we have no shower and can't take a bath because an element is burned out in the water heater and like the shower cartridge - the element is "cemented" in. Hubby is supposed to get to that tomorrow. How much you wanna bet we have no hot water or shower until a plumber comes?

my book could be about my gardening experiences, my biking adventures or my girls. Thus, there is no easy one title. But I don't think I would ever actually write a book.
