FYI if your sink is along an outside wall

The hot pans directly on granite thread reminded me of a good FYI during these cold months. If your sink is along an outside wall, DON'T put a hot pyrex dish, or glass coffee carafe in it when it's cold(er) outside without running some hot/warm water in the sink to warm it up a bit first. The hot glass and cold sink are a bad combination--"POP!"

The first winter after we reno'd the kitchen, a reno which included moving the sink from an inside wall to an outside wall, we put a very hot pyrex baking dish into the apparently too cold for it sink. The glass literally shattered. It never dawned on us that the sink would be so cold because of its location. Lesson learned.
