Holy Smokes - Did this happen to you?

So my last period was May 18, 2006. It was just last week I started getting excited, jumping up and down, that finally I am finished. End date May 18, 2007 approaching. Then, surprise, surprise I get my period this morning. Has this happened to anyone so close to the "one year without a period" mark? Now I have to start all over again. I already had my Gyno checkup this year, should I go back?? Gosh, don't know what to do. I really thought it was over. Thanks for any advise and help.

I dont have that answer. Even when our ovaries arent working, they still have sparks now and then. I wouldnt be all set to start over. Esp. if it was just a few days of bleeding.. Call your obgyn, she what she/he says

That happened to me a couple times! But like shotzy said, ovaries can continue to hiss and clang and bing and smoke for quite a long time!
I wish docs didn't tell us that its abnormal to have a period after a year of not having them. I think its really normal. I would be more concerned if it started up a couple years later.

Hi! ^ ^ I think it could be of use to someone if I type out my experience. Perhaps a collection of experiences will lead to some form of conclusion of the hypothesis about lighting etc. It began when one of my two orchids had a nasty little pussy cat tip over it's pot. The orchid's spike severed completely off. Since my orchids both bloom at the same time I cut the spike off the other orchid. Of both the spikes, the yellow had 2 blooms (1 bud spike was 6 inches long). The purple had 8 buds (one bloom spike was 10 inches long) which is the one the cat had tipped over. I will also note that I put the purple stem immediately into water since I had heard the plant crash. I have had both spikes into a clear glass vase (about 1-1.5 cup of water) in a pitch black game room except light from the teli and monitors. To be more specific the vase is in the shadow of the "light". The temp is always around 78 degrees fahrenheit. I enjoyed the blooms for a couple of weeks and the large bloomed ones finally started to look fatigued so I pinched those off (about 4-5). The rest dropped off by themselves. I totally forgot about these stems/spikes. Here is where it gets interesting, about 2-3 month later I was dusting and cleaning up the "mess" at the sink when I noticed the yellow spike was still green at the end, the purple was brown so I cut it under water to a healthy green looking point. I had decided regardless of the various postings on the intraweb saying that a spike couldn't grow roots I would still let these two try. It now has been 5 months, the yellow has a small root growing at the end, the purple is still green. They are in the pitch black room, I change the water sporadically from every 4 days to 3 weeks with tepid from faucet. Basically when I remember the poor babies but more so at the beginning than now (which changes now I see a little root). I will also mention I was using the cities icky chlorinated fluoride injected tap water, I will now change to bottled water and watch the results.

I'm glad to hear that. I kept asking about other roses vs. Helene and every time Cliff said that Helene was better. I was very happy he had one left for me. I'll have to order from him again next spring to get Gardens of the World and a few others on my wish list. Everyone who ordered should be sure to post some pics of theirs this summer so I have a nice long list next time.

The recurring theme here is that people call the non-emergency line and then are surprised when the fire department shows up with all their trucks anyway. But there is a good reason for this: People are frequently embarrassed to call the fire department and tend to minimize the problem when reporting it ("Oh, it's just a small fire on my stove that I can't quite get to go out; no real problem other than I can't breath right now"). By the time the fire truck rolls in a few minutes later, it turns out this was in fact a real problem and needed all the gear and tools that the firefighters have access to on their trucks. If the caller only reports the smell of smoke, it's quite possible there is nothing much to worry about. There also is the possibility that the moment somebody investigates and opens the door to where the fire has been smoldering for hours, air rushes in an a major fire starts within seconds. At that point, you really don't want to wait another 10 minutes for the trucks to roll in. You need them right then and there. I don't know about all jurisdictions. But in most cases that I am familiar with, the fire department will happily come out to you and investigate, even if it turns out to be "nothing". And you shouldn't get charged for it. But there always could be exceptions. Also, if they subsequently call an ambulance, that's when you might see charges.

Like all addictions, no one outside can control it. If your father has lived to 91, even with his health problems, and everything else, well, let him smoke. I quit for the 4th and final time about 5 years ago. I still get ticked at people who tell me "Oh, it was just a habit, an addiction - you didn't really enjoy it!" Well, yes I DID enjoy it! And it was your father's money he was spending, as it was mine to spend while I was smoking. He chose to buy cigarettes and smoke them. I agree, it's sad that they come with health issues, and I fully expect to have lung cancer sometime in my future. But when your father started, and when I started THEY WEREN'T DANGEROUS, and they are damned hard to quit. So lighten up. He's really old, and I know he's been a royal PITA. But give up the counting of the money spent. You're probably underestimating by a great deal anyway. And it's gone. And it wasn't yours to begin with.

Catie, my last period was also in May of 2006. I just turned 57 and thought it finally happened for good, but today, you got it, very light period started. My ObGyn said I'm also a very late bloomer (no kidding!) but after going through months with nothing, then a period, then months again for 2 years, I have faith this will one day end....and it will for you too! Someone else told me that May is the unlucky month.....(who knows)....good luck!

When mine started to shut down, it went from monthly to every other, to four months, etc.,then a couple or three years of one a year. None for the past five years, but on occasion I still get the "feeling" that it would be the time. I did not figure I was done until about two years ago. But would be hard put to tell the date of the truly last one. But starting at age 9 and continuing as long as I did and as hard as it went, it is a relief.

I haven't had a period for 3 years (I'm 57), but my ovaries are still shooting out blanks, and causing various PMS-like symptoms. No bleeding now though.
Nancy Nurse.........I'm always trying to understand things in life, and I've decided that when the weather turns nice, our bodies realize that it would be a good time to make babies, and maybe our ovaries are stimulated more in springtime. Maybe its a useless theory, but it makes sense to me!

Yep! Been dried up for over a year then went ON VACATION(dang) and got full-blown happys days period..a whole 7 days of it. That was many years ago tho..and that really was the last one.
