I love lilies for their stately appearance and scent... but hate the red lily beetle battle. We live along a river and worry about pesticide run off. So there are only two clumps in our yard. However, we do have many varieties of daylily. These are one of my favorite flowers... but my DH is not crazy about them. He thinks the long slender leaves and the same green tones look boring. The compromise was to place them among plants with different leaf textures and colors. And I have to agree with him that this helps to hide the ratty look of day lilies as they mature. (You're so right about that, Kevin.) A favorite new day lily is H. 'Light the Way' which I found at Bloomingfields Farms in Gaylordsville, CT. These are magnificent! The stems are very tall, which means the plant can be tucked behind shorter plants and the whitish blossom will peek out above its neighbors. Here is what LtW looked like the other day in our gardens. The flower color is more like the second shot...green and white tones. One "problem" ..... day lily clumps can get enormous and crowd out other things, even when divided. That happened in our small yard. The 6 tiny Hemerocallis 'Malaysian Monarch' fans that I planted years ago spread like the plague. We gave most of them away to a friend with lots of property. Molie

Weird. Like I said, I changed nothing. Distilled water (same brand the whole time), didn't move it, didn't repot it, and the Drosera adelae right behind it got the same water and never had a problem. Do yours stay in that windowsill through the winter? No problems with cold drafts? I ask because your window looks similar to mine.

Well--it sounds like universal approval of the two sconce option (4 for and 0 against, anyway :)!) I agree it looks more balanced with the two sconces, I just wasn't sure how I felt about a sconce over the toilet! kgwlisa--I know, I've been so slow on this project! The real horror is that I ripped out the vanity months ago, so I've been without a bathroom sink all that time. I finally have the first workman coming next week, so hopefully this seemingly small project will be wrapped up before we get too far into 2008! I remember that Athena sconce--I live in Seattle, so I spend too much time (and money) in the local Rejuvenation store! Are you using porcelain hardware as well? I know they have the Bennett porcelain towel bars, hooks, etc. on clearance, if they are still available. (I've stocked up!) Thanks for the opinions!

Do you ever have a brief sense of clouding over or like there is a film in your eye or like you have an eyelash in your eye.Those are also symptoms of dry eyes. No, that doesn't happen to me. Again, I think that it is allergies, because I will be fine until I go outside, and the nursery experience really made me realize it was some sort of tree or shrub. It is quite obvious that I am having a reaction to something. Recently my DH and I were out to dinner, and dining in the restaurant's patio area and I experienced the same sypmtoms. I was fine when we left the house, but started tearing up when we sat down on the patio.
