Delightful little nightstand. I love the stuff in your neck of the woods. I found an oval brass table with hoof feet that I really wanted last week, but the drive up to your town was just too much for my schedule. It's gone now, of course.

Funny, I was just thinking about you and wondering how the house was coming along. Your kid's room is gonna be too pretty for words. And if you get a chance, post a current pic of your living room. I never did see how all the table/chair arranging settled...

IMO it is possible to mix painted and unpainted furniture in a room and have it looking great. I all depends on the other elements.

jejvtr: So glad you give it the thumbs up! For sure I'll be posting for more help with DD's tiny room. I'm hoping to get some PS help in a few days with the paint/rug selections. DD would prefer the furniture all white, perhaps darker aqua walls; everyone here thinks we should keep it the seafoam color (which has more green in it than the aqua we were invisioning when we started this room). I also prefer the seafoam as it has that element of funkiness I think she'll appreciate heading into her tweens and teens whereas white she may outgrow. Her older sister would love it if I gave her the green light to paint her furniture, but no-deal there as it's nice, solid natural maple stuff. Having some visuals I think will help her decide. Luckily, she's agreed to the pale aqua walls as I've told her we'll have some punches of color--just not all over the whole walls.

cooperbailey: yes, lots of fun and so is my DD. She asks me everyday when I pick her up from school what progress I've made on her room.

dilly_dally: I agree about mixing painted and unpainted furniture and in fact could see either of these pieces at home in my LR quite easily, but not for this space--which is quite small and gets busy looking very easily with all her stuff. The mahogany will just have to be painted. I know it'll look nice when it's done as does the highboy--though I don't think I could've been the one to paint that piece.

bungalow_house: You know how CL is, you have to sift through a lot of lemons sometimes... Not only that, but it was only 4 miles from my house and guy took off work for lunch to meet me... It was total luck as it was part of a set that belonged to his great aunt and for some reason he is keeping part of the pieces and selling the rest. I'd think he'd want to keep it as a set as I think it has more value that way.

justgotabeme: I think it's similar in style, but seems to be newer and (we hope) of better quality. I actually think the old wrought iron ones are probably better quality than the new stuff. Since orig. price is $400, we're hoping it's decent quality. I'll need to check the weight tho. DH is weird that way in that if something is very cheap, he thinks it's because it's poor quality. We'll see tho as seller has not called me back yet on the bolt. If they cannot find a replacement then DH says we won't buy. We shouldn't have to pay that money and then scrounge around for spare parts....

I just wanted to comment that is it so awesome you were able to find a matching nightstand! If you decide not to paint, I think a solid color table runner across the top and hanging down the sides would help soften the mahogany.

I like the pulls a lot; I have a little sewing table that belonged to my great-grandmother and it has similar pulls (in the antique brass).

Oh I too love your living room. I think I remember when you got those adorable round tables.
I don't blame your hubby for being worried about the bed not being of good quality. I think I'd have wanted to see it put together. I'm paranoid, but then they seem honest if they told you there was a bolt missing. I hope they call back and your find out it's a heavy sturdy bed.

Love the little table! Yes, you can paint the pulls(they look like solid brass, if U wanted to sell them on Ebay you'd get your $25 back). "IF" you decide to paint the table,(I'd paint it to match) just coat it with lots of lemon oil....so the latex paint won't stick very well, with the idea you can strip it in 15 years when she needs a mahogany table for her new apartment. :0)

Great find. One thought: it won't be easy to paint the new bedside table so that it looks exactly like the other furniture. One idea is to play up the difference -- paint the metal pulls aqua and the wood silver/pewter. It would also tie in the bed and curtain rod in a fun way.

Not to hijack your thread - but does anyone know what this style of furniture is called?

I've been looking for tall chests like this (mahogany with the oval pulls), but I have no idea if it has a name.

KC: No worries, glad my pics are an inspiration for you. I love this style as well. The tall chest is called a highboy (I've also seen it called chest-on-chest). You are correct that wood is mahogany, it's from the 1940's and it's a Duncan Phyfe style. I've seen some of the pulls on eBay termed as "Hepplewhite" though would be a reproduction, not original. Now that I've filled it with my DD's clothes I more than ever am thrilled with this purchase, not just from a decor standpoint, but the drawers are so deep and spacious because of the bow front. I now only need fold her pants in 1/2 not in 1/3 as I had to before which results in more storage space which is always a good thing heading into the teenage years.

On a progress note we picked up the daybed this weekend and are in the process of installing it. DH wants to put in extra bolts to stabilize it. For the rug, I am now considering a smaller 4x6 flokati style since I didn't much care for the FLOR colors. Will pick up paint samples later this week.
