Olive oil question

I buy extra virgin olive oil in large sizes, and decant some of it into a smaller bottle to use on my salads. This morning I poured the last of the big can into the bottle.

The oil was cold, having been stored on the pantry floor, and therefore thick. It actually seemed to have some solids in it, which seemed odd. I ran the can under hot water, and that thinned out the last of it.

Looking closely at the glass bottle, I can see the tiniest black dots here and there in the oil. Not only that, but I spotted four or five small dark grey (mottled) flakes of some kind. I've never seen anything like this in oil. The oil smells fine. You'd think if it went bad I'd be able to detect some rancidity. But if it hasn't gone bad, what is this stuff in it? Residue from the can?

I''m thinking I should throw it out. Don't wanna eat those grey flakes . . .
