I was listening to the show as I worked. I heard them say they go out for dentist and eye appointments. I'm not sure but I think they have some medical practitioners on the compound. I compare them to the many religious secs around the world, who pick partners for their children, pray off and on around the clock, refrain from tv, etc. They happen to be white and Mormon. (old mormon) Not muslim, not Indian...I could go on and on. For the truly good Mormon women and men on the compound, I say leave them alone. They did say they would not marry anyone under 16 any longer.(state law) In my opinion that is too young by my standards but I'm not in their religion either. I don't tell M@slims what to do or anyone else how they should teach their children for that matter. Even some strict Chr(stians can be quite zelous within their ch#rch. We can't be fueding with everyone who doesn't fit our ideas of what's best or we'll be fighting with most of the world.

I can't imagine many people can relate to what it's like to pour your entire life into something for 25 years and then have it end. It wasn't just a job where you put in your 8 hours then go home. Yes, she has other projects but it's not the same. I imagine it's very difficult for her. I know I feel sad when people cut into a cake that I spent 8 hours making and decorating, lol. It's always interesting that the people who complain that she never did anything are the ones who give back the least themselves. I'd be willing to bet most of them don't give generously to charity with their own money, yet somehow expect celebrities to give away almost everything. It's all relative and I'm sure all the many people she's been generous towards appreciate it.

I have lost all respect for Oprah, esp. after her talk of there not being just one God... but let's not go there because we'll get in trouble. It's her right to choose what to believe in and my right to turn her off! Tom Cruise, who the heck knows... a little weird maybe? Yrs. ago, I lived in Miami, and while shopping in Miracle Mile in Coral Gables, was approached by a couple of people doing a "personality" questionnaire. They were very pushy. My friend took the test, which, btw, was about 1 1/2 hrs. long! When she finished, they walked us over to a an office they had set up nearby and proceeded to tell her all kinds of s--- regarding what the test showed about her and how, if she joined this group, she would find happiness, etc... Their pitch went on forever and they wouldn't give up. They went as far as grabbing her arm when she tried to leave. I was getting scared because they were so aggressive. They were Scientologists. When they saw they couldn't recruit her, they gave her one of Hubbards books and then pestered her at home for wks.! My friend was, and still is a Christian, so you can imagine how well this all went over. They never told her they were Scientologists until they had us in that room. Things might be different now but they sure went about recruiting in a frightening way. No, thanks. Weird...

From what I have read, the clients on the Olsen show pay for everything but have no input on what is going to be done. The client and the designer do not work as a team. The outcome of the project is the surprise. On Oprah's shows doesn't she always pay for everything? She is known for selecting "needy" persons and coming to the rescue. This was one of the things that was bugging me about this Oprah episode. The single working girl, who got her apartment redone, just really needed a mop and a bucket, and a little ambition. I noticed that they refused to clean out her stinking refrigerator and admonished her to learn to make her bed in the morning. The problem with these cleaning and decluttering shows is that they do not get to the core of the problem and teach the person to make changes in their life and way of thinking that got them into the mess in the first place. Remember the 'Queer Eye For The Straight Guy' shows? Did you catch the reunion update show? They caught one couple who had scurried to clean when they heard the guys wer coming back and piled everything to the ceiling in the tub and pulled the curtain. Some of the guys they did not even put on the update show because when they went back a year later they were living like pigs and had ruined all the new furniture and clothing they were given.
