Bamboo leaves for cooking
Comments (6)Thank you for the feedbacks. I spent about an hour googling and found a potential bamboo that might be what I'm looking for. It's called Indocalamus TESSELLATUS. Some websites say that its leaf is used to wrap food. But I don't know if it is the one that my mom used, so I'm ordering it. What I remember was that the bamboo was sold as dried leaves in a package. It has slight fragrance. The following website has a picture of the leaf: http://www.gourmetsleuth.com/equivalents_substitutions.asp?index=B&tid=2315...See Morewhich banana leaves for cooking?
Comments (1)The ornamental bananas aren't poisonous per se, just bitter and starchy with large seeds. And that's just the fruit. Any kind of banana leaves should be fine. Comments (2)I've never heard of putting ti leaf into any types of local recipes, however it is often used to wrap food or a dessert in before cooking. Usually dishes that will require steaming. Plus I've started picking up interesting tubers like oca, yacon and hopefully crosnes to round out the eventual smorgasbord. I have ti and banana leaves but I wonder if cardamom leaves may be used? They have an incredible cinnamon smell when crushed. -Ethan...See More- 18 years ago
