How do you cope with hot weather and hot flashes
Comments (6)The only thing I have found so far is to soak my hair and head down with the garden hose. I have long hair so the back of my t shirt stays wet. I have MS as well and heat makes me weak as a kitten. There are times that I have all I can do to get back into the house. I found some cooling products through the MS Society that I think might help in both counts. I am looking at the neck wraps that go down your spine a bit and the wrist wraps. I found at night that if I keep a gel pack on a towel on my bed that it helps just to put my hand and wrist on it. Also a wet face cloth. So who knows may be it would help outside too. Here is a link that might be useful: http://www.nationalmssociety.org/chapters/OKE/programs--services/DirectAssistance/cooling-product-information-and-assistance/index.aspx...See MoreHot flashes, night sweats, anxiety and gagging
Comments (8)The gagging could be from what is called "silent reflux"... I didn't even know i had it until i went to the doctor with an ear ache which was also contributed to the reflux. When you are laying down the acid can creep up and then in turn make you cough and gag. I had nausea as well for many years from this and did not even know it. It is quite common in perimenopause as it relates to hormone fluctuations. I take an OTC Zegerid at night for the reflux and it has helped a lot. Also, not eating a few hours before going to bed may help as well. Not sure if this is what you have but it sounds like it to me. As for night sweats i found that at least 30 minutes of exercise a day, walking or running helped tremendously. It also helps with my anxiety and nervousness that also comes up out of nowhere at times. The only thing getting me through is the thought of making it to the finish line and this being over fairly soon... i hope! Good luck...See MoreHot flashes for how long?
Comments (4)If you are getting estrogen thru the soy - and I love the soy milk and drink it for breakfast every morning!, you also need Progesterone to keep the estrogen in balance. Natural Progesterone Cream is a really great way to help with the hot flashes! I have a good source for it by mail - much cheaper than the health food stores, but GOOD stuff. I will use it the rest of my life! Dr John Lee wrote, "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause" and told years ago how bad HRT was for women...now the doctors are taking women off that stuff finally! It's an excellent book and in most health food stores! $12-13 and worth every penny. Lois...See MoreHow extensive are hot flashes?
Comments (3)I've experienced hot flashes for over 15 years, from just a few to maybe 20 a day. Besides the upper body and face suddenly heating up, there's an emotional component as well. I feel vaguely emotional -- maybe a little confused, or angry, or sad. I can now sometimes guess when a hot flash is beginning because I'll be asking myself, why am I feeling so weird? I just ride it out, and know not to make any decisions, rash moves, or impulsive statements. I think if you do some research on hot flashes, you'll be able to tell from descriptions if that is what you're getting....See More- 15 years ago
