Making progress......marble in today (pics, I hope)

Well, we are making some progress, albeit slow. The island marble got here and was installed today along with the baking center top. Ovens also in and I am assured that Monday the cooktop will be functional and the trim kits on frig and freezer will be installed! Might actually get a meal in here next week!

The missing cabinet door above the oven is b/c it was warped and being re-done.

The bottom one was this morning and top from tonight with interior light pouring down on the island -- can't see the pattern of the marble as well in that one. I was really worried about how "busy" it seemed but think it is going to be OK. You can also really see how the color of the cabinets goes from blue to grey as the light of the day changes.

This last one shows the general state of "almost there" that has seemed perpetual over the last few weeks.

Can't thank everyone here enough for the hand holding, encouragement, great ideas, and general "atta girl's" that have helped me get this far. I hope to have more to share in the next few weeks.

Oh, excuse me - ah hemmmm Just lovely what nice use of different materials - function - looks like you are close to a 5 star kitchen - keep us posted just lovely - I want to come over and do some decorating when the contractors leave :)

One compromise would be to give DH the first few babies to start his own plant to tend however he sees fit. I usually put 2-4 together in a pot. It's understandable that anyone might want to remove a few babies to have more plants even if it means that it takes a little longer to have a plant with a bunch of babies hanging off of it. One good thing about separating a few babies to their own pot is that those babies usually send out a shoot of flowers with a baby at the end as soon as the roots have developed in the soil. Spider plants don't go dormant in the house, and can send out new shoots of babies and flowers any time of the year. The more light it has, the faster it will do its' thing. Hi Toni! I don't feel bad at all about removing the babies when I want more plants. Almost all of those grew this spring. There will be another crop next year. The individual branches don't seem to stay healthy more than about a year. They start to turn yellow and the mama seems invigorated when these are removed, usually quickly sending out replacements, kind of like deadheading, sends signals to the plant to make more reproductive efforts. I also think the branch can get heavy enough to create a pressure point at the edge of the pot, impeding the flow between mama and baby.

Hi everyone and thanks for looking at my creations!! I LOVE all the posts!! Luvs- If you only knew how many works I have in progress. Not to mention the ideas floating around in my head! I think I dream ideas!! Foxy- I'm just glad that I can share with you. Between gardenweb and photobucket, I wan't sure it was going to happen. Personal victory! lefd05- I have to water my tipsy pots twice a day. Should probably water three times since they are pretty close to the concrete dirveway. They don't hold a lot of dirt or water since they are plastic. I'm very much into thinking BIG! We should talk! snickysnacker- the watering can was a last minute thought. Can't take the credit for it...so it on a site posted on page like 60-something. My dad actually thought it was rigged up to be a watering system for the whole thing! Wish it could be! dinajean- I am inspiration?!? [Sniff, sniff] That is me wiping away a tear. I think tipsy pots would look soooooo good in the fall with warm colors and things like that. Also, plants wouldn't dry out as quickly. I bought the pig at Ceramo (a factory in my town that makes ceramic pots some with galze, some without, planters of all shpaes and sizes, etc. A couple times a year they open their factory up to the public to purchase.) Anywho, I bought bigpig there, brought her home, held her down and started to mosaic. Only frustrating thing was that Hobby Lobby kept running out of my pink glass! I love the bigpig, too!

I used pond foam (its like Great Stuff but for ponds) to seal my rocks so my water would flow. I have one large flat one on the bottom level. For some oxygen for while you work on the falls I jst used an aqarium pump with an airstone on it. I cut a plastic coffee can to put the pump in to protect it from the weather. We rebuilt our waterfall 5 times!! so have some patience.Your water will flow better after you seal the cracks. Good Luck!

I will be there too with jejvtr ! What a gorgeous space. You had me the minute you showed the color changes of the cabs...I am a sucker for subtlety. You have a breathtaking kitchen in the making. c

remodelfla - it is carerra. And is actually the "2nd choice" slab as the first was mis-measured and was too short. My DH liked this one better anyway so I believe it is a case of "meant to be". He confessed to me tonight that the other made him think of headstones.....but was sweet enough to keep that to himself and would have let me put it in anyway.

I must confess to taking a deep breath before hitting the "submit message" button as I know this style wouldn't work for most, but, as I walked in here late this afternoon and finally saw most of the pieces in place, I could feel that it is going to be the right space for us.

trailrunner and jejtvr -- have at it! I will need all the help I can get in the decorating area after this part is finished!

Well, I think everything is beautiful, and I'm in *shock* because so much of it looks like our kitchen-to-be! Not just the choice of materials, but actual whole walls of stuff.

Our island will be topped with marble, has seating on two sides, and our perimeter cabs will have soapstone. (Our island will be painted some shade of green, we think.)

I know it's not identical, but there are enough similarities that it's like a little glimpse of the future for me. :o) Great work!

I can feel your install apprehension - it's all part of the process. 2nd guessing, will i like it, maybe that would have been better, oh no etc.....

It is absolutely a stunning kitchen -
Don't worry trail & i will be there for the dec part - & she is a master baker so will walk you through how to use it

worldmom - that is really amazing! Looks like we will have much in common!

Here are a couple of shots of our frig wall

As our micro will sit on shelf above, the bottom drawer is actually a built-in step, ostensibly for the 5 y.o., but since I am short I was happy to have a quick way to reach those "to the ceiling" uppers.

jej, vic, plucky and rhome -- thank you! We are blessed to have such a large space and I can't wait to have family and friends fill it up! We cook a lot with our children and it was so great to see my 9 y.o. son come through the space last night and make a bee line for the ovens, studying the controls, opening the doors and commenting -"wow, we can cook like 9 things at once"!

jej and caroline - I will look forward to both the cooking and decorating sessions!

rhome - really apprciate your comment as you, in particular, offered many design, organization and layout ideas (whether you know it or not) just from reading your experience. One that you see above are the Electrolux Icon frig and freezer! I remember how thrilled I was to find that info as I knew I wanted separate units and these met my parameters beautifully! Am now anticipating opening them and actually seeing food in there

I love it. I love your marble (! of course I do!), but I think what I love the most is the beautiful choice of colors / stains for your cabs .... I'm not sure how to word this so it accurately portrays what I mean: your kitchen looks personal, not like 'yep, seen it before. It's beautifully cosy. Does that make sense?

I'm excited to see more of your kitchen!

I think it looks fabulous! Great use of your space. Love the carrera. I am considering that for my island as well.

Question - is your island the same color as the hutch piece?
