My spring begins on March 2 when I get to attend the Philadelphia Flower Show. This year I have preview tickets so I can attend when it's less crowded.

It amazes me to see how much work the nursery growers and landscapers have to do in preparation for the show.

Yes!! I have a small hobby greenhouse (11x13) for starting seeds indoors and growing greens thru the winter. I LOVE seeing what others do. Our season is soooo short. We count on 90 days-Memorial Day through Labor Day so things get pretty intense and hectic, especially if we have a late frost in June.

Oh yes, please share pics!! When I lived in NH every year in March I would go to one of my favorite nurseries with greenhouses just to walk through and look at all the pretties and feel the humidity. It gives you hope that spring is just around the corner.

i work in the landscaping industry for a large grower here in central fl. i've worked for this grower from 2000 to 2006 then left and went into design for a well known high end firm for 1.5 yrs (they have a show coming up on HGTV Groundbreakers). sensing the downturn in the ecomony i went back to my previous employer for better (ie steady) $$. next to one of the owners who is a well known expert in tropicals i am the resident plant expert.

i dispatch a fleet of semi's and trucks thru out the south from TX to NC. i was w/ them waaaay back in the days of 3 locations (no semi's) and a yearly earning of 6 figures and maybe 40 acres of production mostly outside of greenhouses. this yr we will break $10 mil and tripled our main growing area, sold the small location, bought another location and doubled our 2nd largest facility. when people say they want to get into growing i have to laugh and i always say i'd never do that i know waaayyyy to much about the industry lol.

our spring broke 3 weeks ago and i can barely keep up, it goes on thru june then a second wind for the fall from aug-dec. i love this job even w/ the crazy pace and love the industry even more, we are very active in an a statewide industry organization. i linked up a pic page from our old website, we are in the process of getting a new site in a couple weeks. there are pics of our main growing facility only. i'd love to see pics of your place too! ~ liz

Yes, yes, yes!

I would so look foward to finding those posts each day. Right now we are at freezing temps (-24C), but it will warm up some by tomorrow. We don't really get spring until (very slowly) starting in April (then maybe some more winter), then some spring (then some more winter) and then officially spring at the very very end of May or beginning of June, or maybe not at all and it turns into summer, which usually ends by the middle of September, then back to winter. I find on the grey cold glum days I like to look at the gardening websites, or go through the local greenhouse just to see green, so your progressive posts would be welcome and interesting. Thanks!

We have a local long-time family-owned Landscape and Garden Center in town, and when I drive in from just outside the city limits I drive past their greenhouses which look like long igloos right now. Also there are fields of young trees which I enjoy watching through the seasons.

It will be a treat to be a greenhouse-watcher.

Truth is, this is my dad's - taken in June 2006 the day we had the plastic put on. We had the skeleton up for six years or so before we got the plastic up. Now it will likely be another six years before he does anything with the inside. We've debated heaters and ventilation systems, what to grow and when...my family is mainly just "talkers." We all talk about what we're gonna do ______________ (fill in the blank: next week, next month, next spring, next year, someday). LOL!

I'd love to see your pictures. Maybe it will inspire me to get my butt outta this chair, drive the five minutes to Pop's house, and do something in that big old honkin' greenhouse.

Rita, how can you have a greenhouse and not use it? That goes against every fiber of my being. If I lived closer I'd come over and slap you silly. ;-)

Yes, Ron please share your pictures. On my morning drive to work each day I pass dozens of greenhouses. I have already noticed activity inside some and can see baskets hanging from the ceilings in some. But I can never really see what is going on inside. I'd love to see the progression.
