Small U shaped Kitchen layout, take 2
Comments (15)The fridge location in the OP is exactly like mine, across from the peninsula. I find it extremely convenient as a drop zone. What is your aisle width there? I have 46.5" from fridge door to counter edge, and DH can open the doors to look for something and another family member can still get by. That is with a french door fridge. I think this plan is just fine if you moved the sink under the window, and kept the DW where you have it. It just seems that a corner sink (as the only sink, I have a corner prep sink) is not the most comfortable if not absolutely necessary. I also agree with the 90* angle in the upper cabinet in the corner to match the lower. But, that is just a looks preference - plus I'm short and never get to things in the backs of those deep uppers....See MoreCeiling Light for small U Shape Kitchen
Comments (8)The back of the U is where the stove is with a 15" cabinet on either side and then a corner cabinet. That complete area is 108"less the cabinets on either side. The stove will have a OTR Microwave with 30" ..18"tall cabinets over it) Then looking into the U the sink is on the right..it will have a pendant over it and will be under a 36" window that goes out into a glassed in enclosed porch...so some light there. Then there is a 21" wall cabinet and then the 37 1/2" opening for the snack bar and a 36" opening floor to ceiling into the den. I will have a small Pendant over the 371/2" piece of granite. We did this for our youngest Grandson so he will have his own space to sit. Other side of U which would be the darker side is 97" long with the Ref at the end then a door going into DR. There is 5 more ft at the end where there are 3 windows and I will have a hanging light over the small kitchen table. So after thinking about this....I am going to just put the cam lights in...No over the head ceiling light of any kind. I am just wondering if it will be better to put two on either side Or....one in the middle over the stove one on either side and then one at the end of the cabinet runs in the middle to line up with the one over the stove?? The long florescent light encased in a frame (doesn't really look that bad) lights up my whole kitchen...but I also had a florescent light over the sink and one over the window.....and the hanging light over the table ...So when I had them all on...my kitchen was a glow...lol...but hubby loves lots of light. But I am so tired of those lights and want to do something different and a bit more updated....so hoping the four cams..thinking now LED.. will be enough with my pendants and over table light...of course the cams will be my task lighting along with under cabinet lights of some source. Will see what they tell me at the lighting store. thanks so much for your help......See MoreWhere can I get better seating in this small U shaped kitchen?
Comments (2)round pedestal table will be easier , not necessarily more capacity. When we visited one grandma as kids they used a drop leaf table in living room for more capacity than the kitchen table , as it was a small home . when we left , table went back against the wall, and leaf placed down. is there an end of the living room than can be "flex" dining space? long and narrow farmhouse or trestle table right in the middle of the space shown will allow a bench on one side w small people using that and chairs on the other side: that sort of table can be found or have built fairly long and narrow to your specs. Let's dare ask? How many seated people must she entertain? Maybe best is to get food and seated people setup in the other room[living room or family room] and adjust to that with the way of serving that she can realistically do....See MoreDelima with small u-shaped Ikea kitchen with corner cabinets
Comments (17)I have a similar issue with a corner cabinet. I have space for 44" but have an IKEA corner cabinet in a 47" that came with the house (we bought in October). The kitchen was in process of being remodeled and the kitchen was still in boxes. This is the only area we are having an issue with. If we use the 47" completely, it will offset my sink and window. Can't move those items. Would we be able to cut 3" off of the backside of the 47" cabinet and be ok? The door will have to be custom-made, I understand. It still leaves plenty of space in which to get into the cabinet. We also know we'd have to modify the large shelf that goes with it (again, 3" off of the back). My kitchen is slightly larger than the image above. Sink in same place and a 12" cabinet to the right that butts up against our refrigerator. This is our only problem child. The previous owners didn't leave us with anything other than the floorplan of what they were going to do. We're novices...at best. lol We currently have no cabinets in, the floors had to be completely redone and look amazing now. We had to put in some new outlets and redo the drywall. We're at the cabinet stage of our kitchen redo....See Morecosmo_nj
