What do you think of this color scheme?

I found a great deal on a quartz countertop the other day at HD - it would be $1300 cheaper than the lowest Cambria quote I got. I would love to hear what you think about the counters though - I'm definitely shooting for a calm counter look with minimal movement for texture and covering messes. I *think* this one (called "natural limestone" and has a look similar to some limestone looks I've seen on houzz) is calming but it is SO HARD to look at a 2x2 sample and get a good idea of what it's going to look like spread out on 61 square feet. A few Cambria samples I thought would be okay were way too much for me once I saw real kitchens with them so I was headed toward torquay before I found this. The thing is, the color is so new, there are no real kitchens to see what it looks like.

DH and I are going to look at quartzite on Saturday - my first choice but probably not going to fit in the budget - so this is what I'm considering. What do you think? (The white is for the shaker cabinets)

And if you made it this far, what type of hardware would you put on the cabinets? Shiny or satin?

That quartz looks really pretty. I love all your choices and think it will look smashing. I have pebble and blizzard Caesarstone on perimeter and island respectively with white cabinets. Love the low maintenance of the countertops and the feel of stone. I used polished chrome for my hardware for just a bit of bling. Happy with my choices. HTH~~GOOD LUCK!

I think the three colors on the left blend together very nicely, but the gray sink strikes me as "One of these things is not like the other". The others register on the tan scale, while the sink is definitely gray. I am in love with Blanco Silgranite sinks, and it'd be a shame to buy such an expensive workhorse and have it not match.

I wonder if a white sink would be better. Or, let me ask this: Are those arabesque tiles white-white or off-white? I would choose the sink to match them. I am soooo in love with arabesque tiles.

Hardware? Satin. Definitely satin. Your colors are soft and smooth (good, since you threw out the desire for a "calm" color scheme), and satin blends with them. Shiney would stand out, and I see effective hardware as something that should "fit in" rather than "stand out".

Yes, I probably should widen the base, although right now it is standing just fine. I Would use chains on top of the hood to adjust the lights height. I just finished building my grow light. I built the needed fixture and connected the wires. For light I am planning to use Philips Super 80 tubes. On the Philips Lighting webpage there is also give a datasheet, which contains wavelength diagram. Perhaps someone could give me some advice, what sort of tubes to use. In my opinion the 840 should be the best. A friend soon got rid of her new black bedroom furniture because she was tired of it constantly showing every speck of dust and was tired of dusting it. I'm sure a bedroom would tend to be dustier due to the bed linens though maybe moreso than other rooms. Was it the black dining table that was of interest to you? merimom, okay, you asked, I'll do my best to answer you. First, the sealing and necessary re-sealing because it is so porous is something I would not want to deal with. Using trivets or other protective surfaces before setting scalding pots down is also something I would not want to do. Obviously many people deal with these issues and they aren't really a big deal. I understand adapting and then it becomes part of ones routine. My chief issue is purely aesthetic. The hard and reflective surface is ubiquitous. Regardless of the style, quality or vintage of the home, there it is. I find it often at odds with the style of the house: examples would be a colonial home in New England, or a California 1930's bungalow--how incongruous bright shiny granite counters would be. Instead of honoring a style and having the counters blend seamlessly into the overall design, there is the shiny granite. Most of us do not live at Versailles, let's not go wild with materials that are at odds with the home. I also think as white cabinets are indicative of the 70's and Corian the 90's, granite is the sign of the 2000's and will eventually be sort of a marker of a time. Considered use of materials in conjunction with the home's style can result in a timeless and interesting design. Bottom line is MOST polished granite is cold and uninteresting (TO ME) as a counter surface. I'm a fan of matte surfaces that are soft, warm and inviting and soothing to the eye. Matte does not mean dull, there is definitely a quiet pop to unpolished surfaces. Do you really want your kitchen to look like every other?

After a certain length of time, the post can't be deleted. The rendering above looks like it has two extra filled-in half-wood garage doors out front. It also has a half completed chimney in the front. Are those the impressions you want to convey? Does the roof have the appropriate slope for your snow load? The huge windows in the front will show a view, if that's the right direction. I hope you have geothermal heating or some other way to reduce the expense of heating the house with huge heat-losing windows.

Not quite right. Not enough textural interest for a monochromatic color scheme, despite the arabesque tile. Is there any contrast anywhere? What's the flooring? The pulls? The lighting? It needs either more contrast or more punch from something.

I agree about the sink being a different color as the gray does seem to not quite fit. The silgranit sinks are great, they have quite a few colors to choose from, maybe the truffle would suit this better if this is the color scheme you select. I agree that it certainly is calming.

However, I also agree with GreenDesigns, you could get all of the pop with those other elements, so it would be interesting to see what you are thinking there. Since it it such a neutral palate, these choices would have more impact.

I love the arabesque tiles (and will now put them into my things to look at while I am planning my white cabinet kitchen). It's different from the subway tiles that I have been seeing a lot of in Houzz. Although, I love the subway tiles too. I also really like the quartz and think they look great together.

I agree with MrsPete and Kellieonelle that the sink color does not quite fit with other three colors.

I am also planning on getting white cabinets for my kitchen and like the idea of satin finish on the hardware. I also think it is more forgiving with fingerprints and dirt than the shiny.

I thought the same thing about the sink color but threw it in anyway. I tried it with the biscuit color too but...yeah. I think stainless may have to be the answer.

I'm trying for a calm look but also plan for punches of color...I have Fiestaware in a bunch of colors that I will showcase behind glass doors and I want fun bar stools at the peninsula. We're also bringing the hickory from the rest of the house into the flooring so it won't be a huge contrast in dark/light, but will warm it up.

Do you see gray and brown in the sample? Our house has warm colors but I see that gray is coming in so I sorta want a combo (best of both worlds) so if browns go out in 5 years my kitchen won't look dated.

Also, let me know if you see pink or green undertones. I don't think I want that.
