I just got back from Ikea, I checked out all the designs.

I'll tell you, Ikea is just pure crap. The stuff is so cheap, but that's because it's pure garbage. The shades of all those lamps that match the design I was looking for are supposed to be aluminum, real metal. But they are pretty much made out of tin foil. I want a lamp, not food wrapping.

ps - I laughed out loud at your Ikea commentary - I guess I'm not that sad that I can't order their lights on line after all!

I'm going to defend Ikea lighting. It's one third the cost of similarly designed stuff elsewhere. Plus the designs are pretty good. Try going to Lowes for a bathroom sconce. It's amazingly depressing how bad all the designs are - lot's of material in useless florid shapes.

As for the amount of material it's better to use less material in an object that will be rarely handled and does not move. That makes it cheaper and better for the environment.
