We just juiced a big bag of limes, and I'm making my mint syrup for my weekend Mojito Mix. (Good thing I had RO water stored, as my county is on a boil order because of a water main break.) At least I can drank...I mean drink...something else besides water! So, what's your beverage of choice for the weekend?
I just made a big pitcher of iced tea, plain. No sugar, no lemon, no flavorings, just tea.
I did get a bag of lemons and I'll make homemade lemonade for the kids and Amanda and Ashley. I'd make Sangria, but no one would drink it except me. Mother is allergic to lemons and only likes dry wine and Dave drinks Jack Daniels so he sure wouldn't drink it. Amanda is on seizure meds and can't drink, Ashley is pregnant and can't drink. Kevin doesn't drink to speak of and Elery is working.
Hey, but I have some homemade limoncello and I just bought orange juice, you never know!
I might get some red wine and make me some sangria this weekend. But that would mean I'd be drinking sangria all weekend and that might not be a good thing.
Ok I'm gonna have to see what's in an Arnold Palmer myself. I guess NancyLouise and I are the only ones to "imbibe". Annie, I think your Limoncello sounds great.
Summerfan, I wish I was a fan of summer! (I just wait for it to be over.) Your iced coffee would be a hit for me.

Claire- actually it's sumner not summer because Sting's, my fav singer, given name is Gordon Sumner. I do love summer too though so that wouldn't be at all inappropriate. I hate the cold and whole heartedly believe I would never survive in a Northern state.
Water at the moment. Had a Pepsi at the bar. Cops are out heavy this weekend so no booze at all until next week. Doc has me on rock star drugs anyways... plenty high.
I hear ya 'bout the tourists seagrass. They are here in Maine full force. What usually takes me less then 10 minutes to drive home from work took me 40 minutes. I drive a straight shot on route 1 home, backed up. Decided to turn around and go the highway home. Silly me that also was slow going. Where I usually drive 75mph or so was down to 25-30mph due to all the cars. Summer is here! Give me a LandShark! And please drink responsibly as they say on the commercials. Tourists to avoid here, too. My husband says we stay out of Mystic and off the beaches in the summer ...but I'm thinking I need to sneak in for a grilled cheese sandwich at Bleu Squid, thanks to Jude's Griulled Cheese thread.
We're headed today to three local vineyards for wine tasting, farm market shopping, and entertainment... the first about a mile from a cheese farm in Colchester, the second on an orchard with an awesome produce market in Guilford, and the third in Clinton with music tonight and a taco truck for dinner!
So, I think I'll be drinking wine.... and now that Teresa suggested it, I'll probably need to make some Sangria....
I'll probably be drinking beer. I'm not a hard liquor person. I do love wine, but DH likes beer better, and I enjoy it too. My current favorite is Shiner's Double Wheat 102. Shiner is a Texas brewery, and they make a wide range of beers. Shiner Boch was their original, as far as I know, but they've branched out, as has a lot of breweries, to make several different flavors, or styles of beer. Actually, choosing beer is getting as complicated as wine these days.
Sumnerfan, your post is leading me to associate this thread with 'Tea in the Sahara' which inspired me to read 'The Sheltering Sky' so many years ago. I haven't forgotten that book. I passed on the movie.
Too early to drink right this minute but I do have some fresh pineapple chunks that have been soaking in coconut rum for later on! Pass the toothpicks! Making pina coladas too.
We have plans to go boating tomorrow with a group of friends IF the weather holds out.
I make those pineapple coconut rum things all summer... actually I have a tupperware packed up to take them to the fireworks in about 5 minutes. Perfect weather for fireworks, not too hot, perfectly clear sky. Should be good for boating tomorrow too - we are headed for LBI and a friends new sail boat - it is a 56 foot teak beauty that I haven't seen yet - guess I'll be bringing champagne for our maiden voyage on it.
Earlier we were drinking Sangria with the Paella... it was a lovely combination
Nicely aged - I think - homemade "Skeeter's Pee" lime wine. My pantry is beginning to smell like a brewery or - winery. Last winter had a bumper crops of limes. A site on the web posted this neat recipe.
Actually, I'm hoping one day to make a really nice chardonnay but until my grapes cooperate, will settle for "fruity" types. The plums are now fermenting in the primary pail.
This lime wine turned out OK. I got a 23-24 Brix on it.

lol My husband says I can always find some way to work Sting into a conversation. I have actually never read 'The Sheltering Sky' I need to put that on my summer reading list. Did you enjoy it?
BTW tonight I'm drinking plain ole southern sweet tea. I'm not much of a tea drinker, but we've been drinking tea for the last couple weeks here.
Thought about a "Bin Laden"* but been sticking with water and iced tea. As I was going outside to watch the fireworks across the street (it was going on a lot longer than expected so I thought I'd sit outside and watch) I was going to grab a chair and a couple beers but then the fireworks ended! Oh well, back to the water and tea.

Sumnerfan: it is a very dark and depressing book, so read it when you are in the mood for a literary gem that isn't uplifting. I can see where it inspired Sting. Tennessee Williams wrote a great review, it is on the net.
cynic, Dave tried to convince me to drink a Bin Laden, he said it was a couple of shots and a splash. I'd have to go with the BIG splash, I'm a wuss. No matter, I don't like whiskey so I turned it down, in spite of the fact that he was trying to get me to try something called "Red Stag" which appears to be a black cherry flavored whiskey or bourbon. It smelled vile...
I wonder if you mixed it with Coke if it would taste like cherry coke? Um.....nah, probably not.
Annie - that Red Stag is a Jim Beam Bourbon product and it is NASTY!!!! I love bourbon and Jim Beam is the usual in my house (except for the small batch sipping bourbons) and that Red Stag is just awful..... worse than any cough syrup I have ever tasted.... you wree wise to avoid it at all costs

I paid $4.19 for a small, excuse me, tall Starbucks Frappacino (sugarless syrup and non-fat milk). Mocha-coconut. It was goood, especially that lump of icy stuff at the bottom. At that price, I won't be having another for awhile.
I have a bottle of cold limoncello. What should I mix it with for something summery?
Pam - throw that Limoncello in the freezer and sip it straight up and frosty cold after dinner. Otherwise it is light and lovely with seltzer or club soda. You could also give it a go with 7-up (diet or reg, your call) or even a crazy combo like a splash of Limoncello, a splash of Chambord and seltzer.
Pam, yes she is. If it's a girl, it's Madison Elizabeth. A boy, they're still discussing it. (grin) I'll know what to call her when she's old enough to have a personality!
the limoncello? It depends on how good a drinker you are. I tried it straight and nearly choked, I cannot drink straight liquor. heck, I can barely drink it mixed with other stuff! I do like the limoncello in orange juice and in pineapple juice, and Cathy/Mustangs taught me to drink it with cranberry juice.
Red Stag is nasty in my book but the bar is selling a bunch of it... they mix it with coke from what I see. I was given a free shot when it was first stock... tastes like extra alcohol cherry brandy... think I'd rather have the brandy if I'm having a bit.
Making iced tea for work. I'm glad it is so expensive to just buy in the store... my homemade is so much better! Ceylon with honey today. I cheat by nuking a coffee cup with a tea bag then mixing with cold water... still beats store bought.
Free gatoraid at work!... if I make it. Felt bad because nobody made it yesterday and I was busy.... poor production workers were sweating like pigs. Have to get after the company... gatoraid is a safety item... cases of heat stroke disappeared when gatoraid was introduced. For less then the cost of a single ER visit the company can supply free gatoraid during the hottest six months of the year. Improves moral, keeps people working, saves the company money... so of course we slack and forget to keep it available.
Ashley is pregnant?! Oh wow!!! Did you toss that tidbit in this thread to see if anyone is reading?! Grins! It's great the cousins will be reasonably close in age! My kids' cousins are a good 10 years older. :( Wonderful news!
