Paging Ms. Shambo......Ms. Shambo.............Come in please!

I'm here, but I'm not sure I can help. It looks like pasta with some sort of tomato sauce and topped with a pile of crumbled feta.

Can you describe the ingredients? Is it a tomato sauce? Or maybe a red bell pepper sauce? Do you taste a bit of cinnamon in the sauce? Was any sort of meat or poultry served with it? Can you identify the red bits of "stuff" in the picture?

I'm sorry but the name doesn't ring a bell with me either. Most Greek pasta recipes I'm familiar with use the word, "macaronia." I sure hope someone else can help you.

Can you describe the taste at all. My first thought was pastitso, but that doesn't sound like the word you are saying, plus yours has feta on top and it would normally have a creme sauce, with parmesan maybe.

I would try tweeton.com and see if you can locate a food that looks like this one.

Also please describe the taste a little better. Does it have meat? Is it creamy? Is the red in it peppers, or is it meat in a tomato sauce? Do you taste oregano, cinnamon, all spice, nutmeg? Is the sauce slightly yellow?

I have been served dishes in Greece that they called by one name and my Greek friends in the US called it something else.

Friends took me to a Greek restaurant in Houston years ago.I loved Patisio and wanted to make it at home. I went to our city library and found a Greek cookbook and found that recipe.I made it for years when my daughters were growing up.We always called it the "Greek dish".

Soonergrandmom, you're sweet, but I'm hardly an authority. I only know what my family used to cook and eat. Every island and region has its own specialties. Perhaps the dish in question is a regional specialty.

I think you & I asked the right questions. We really need more information about the dish and its ingredients.

Thanks for your responses: Sorry about the sketchy details. I thought maybe someone would recognize it by name (and even that is sketchy), but it could be what that restaurant called it or maybe it's regional (the restaurant was in Athens). I was eating lunch with a party of 10, and we knew we would be late for our meeting time with the rest of the group so we were a bit hurried.

From what I remember: the sauce was creamy but it wasn't a tomato sauce; the red bits are red pepper; there was no meat; and I think it had oregano.

I was going to jot down the description, or even the name, but as I mentioned, we were short on time. The lesson I'll take from this: take a photo of the food when served AND a photo (very inconspicously) of the name and description on the menu.

I did a search on Greek Red pepper pasta and came up with this. It sounds similar. The writer says it is Macedonian
Pasta with Olives and Feta in Roasted Red Pepper Sauce
Serves 4 generously
â¦500 g package of pasta *
â¦1 whole bulb garlic
â¦8 roasted red peppers (about 2 1/4 cups chopped)
â¦2 tbsp + 1 tsp extra virgin olive oil
â¦1.5 tbsp red wine vinegar
â¦3/4 � 1 tsp dried red pepper flakes **
â¦1 cup kalamata olives
â¦1 bunch basil (about 1/4 cup chopped)
â¦300 g feta cheese ***
â¦salt and pepper to taste
* We used a lovely Greek pasta that Peter gave to us when we went to his house to provide some tech support. And be �we� I mean Mike. I sat and flipped through cookbooks as they did all that computer mumbo-jumbo stuff. And don�t go calling the troops on us for using Greek pasta in a Macedonian dish. Carbs have no borders, in my opinion. The best noodle shape for a sauce like this would probably be a fettucine or linguine, but when you have some fine looking spaghettini in the cupboard, well, who am I to judge?
** Some like it hot, and some like it not. We added 1 tsp of our fiery red pepper flakes and the heat was still very subtle.
*** We used a pungent but creamy textured Macedonian feta, but any good Mediterranean feta will do.

I followed ghoghunter's example and Googled "Greek Red Pepper Pasta Recipe." I found this recipe from a blogger I am familiar with. It combines a red pepper pesto with pasta and is topped with feta. The picture looks very much like the picture you took, Country Smile. Follow the link within his blog entry to find his red pepper pesto recipe. It sounds really good and would be a welcome change from tomato based pasta sauces.
