It's a disposal rule that it only malfunctions on big occasions -- holidays, dinner parties, weekends ...

As long as it either A survives B is fixed C replaced, I'm not sure I'm that bothered, but sheesh. One week of blissful use and then kaboom. I knew it was too good to last ;)

Doesn't help that during this my daughter and her friend who were "playing" upstairs turned out to have been creating masterpieces with vast amounts of glitter glue... and no newspaper down on the (new) floor. Then friend leaned over and got glitter glue in her hair and headband. Love their creativity; not so sure about their ability to follow directions (ie NO ARTS AND CRAFTS UPSTAIRS WITHOUT NEWSPAPER DOWN.)

THEN, while doing the dishes (dw still not in - sob), I sliced my finger on a paring knife so I'm now bleeding all over the keyboard (serves my DH right for not finishing the dishes for the COUNTER POLICE!! That would be me in my new incarnation ;).

Oh, poor Divamum. I feel your glitter glue pain. We've had (1) red craft paint in unsealed grout (took some fairly toxic stuff and a lot of scrubbing to get that out) and (2) black sharpie on light beige carpet. BTW-- if you need a trick for that I've got one!

In the new house we put in dark carpet. lol.

Oh Sarschlos - I had red sharpie on beige carpet . . . and brown micro suede chair. The carpet I was able to fix, but the chair . . . . I bought a lovely blanket to drape over the back!!

Have I mentioned how much I love the internet? Insinkerator's website explains how you use the allen wrench to unjam in just these occasions. I don't have the proprietary( of course) wrench with the unit, but I'm sure my GC will have one or know where to get one. Pain in the patoot, but at least it sounds like it won't be terminal. One more remodeling hurdle jumped. More or less ;)

And I'm still wincing over the Sharpie story Sarschlos. Ouch! (How DID you get it out, anyway?!)

It is based on a standard 1/4" Allen Wrench, so any 1/4" Allen Wrench will work. The Insinkerator wrench comes with the garbage disposal, and the installer might have taped it to the unit (check the bottom of the unit too). If they are not taped to the unit they are usually left in a drawer. Home improvement stores carry the wrench as well.

Yeah, ours was acquired secondhand, so no wrench with it. Now that I know it's basically a pretty simple and common thing, I'm sure my guys will sort it out on Monday. Relieved it's nothing more serious! (Can you tell I've not had a disposal before? Actually, not quite true - my family had one while I was growing up in CA as a teenager. But never one of my own!)

Oops -- computer acting weird. Sorry about the double post. To remove black sharpie from beige carpet, I used a combo of rubbing alcohol and pet stain remover Resolve. Blot, don't rub. Lots and lots of blotting.

Dang! If you were still in CA I'd race over with my collection of Allen wrenches. The GC is sure to have a full set in his tool box, though. My father always does :)

Another example of my great GC, who responded to my email late last night (I still can't believe how lucky we are to have this kind of communication as "part of the deal"!). Answer: they'll look at it tomorrow and see if they can get it unjammed. If it's beyond salvation, he'll replace it with another one he has (although if it comes down to having to replace it I may just pony up for a new one with a guarantee - the Badger series aren't that expensive.)

You know, I have enjoyed this remodeling thing, but I think I'm ready for a quiet life again! Just a couple more weeks before I think we're truly done...... bring it ON!

I got hold of the allen key at Lowes, turned it off at the GCFI and worked the screw loose by manually turning - yippee! (Sad, really, to have such a sense of accomplishment over unjamming a garbage disposal but hey, we take victory where we find it, however small ;)

In any case, all better. Learning curve, clearly!
