how much did you pay for your undermount sink?
Comments (9)There are three separate items here. There is the sink itself, which can be free in some fabricators promos, or it can cost pwards of 1K if you want something unique and hand crafted. Then there is the stone slab material, and the fabrication of that material. Some fabricators will quote you separate prices on the stone and then the fabrication labor and some will only quote you a price of the fabricated stone with the labor accounted for in that price. Every fabrication place is different and charges differently, so you want to get a price for the overall job to be able to compare different fabricators equally. Don't get locked into the fact that you might be getting a "free" sink either. Free gets paid for somewhere. My stone fabricators will do an unpolished cutout free of charge. That allows you to use the topmount sink of your choice. If you want undermount, that's an additional $220 for them to polish the edge of the cutout and mount the sink of your choice and included up to 3 faucet holes. The sink (or faucet) itself is not sourced through them and you may choose any sink (or faucet) on the market that will fit your vanity base. The most common undermount sink that I sell is the Kohler Caxton as it is an inexpensive choice by a major manufacturer who is sure to still be around and making that sink if the customer ever has a problem down the road and needs warranty support....See MoreHow much 'bling' do you have around your sink?
Comments (34)Kate, an air gap is a device that's required in California and a few other places; it's to provide an overflow so that your dishwasher doesn't suck water from the sewer, or some such thing (that's entirely wrong but it's some similar plumbing dynamic that's too tedious for me to google right now). Most regions just allow you to loop your dishwasher hose up high next to the appliance (usually under the sink), which apparently provides for the same function. The ones who don't will sometimes make exceptions for European brands like Miele and Bosch - guess it depends on your local inspector. An air switch is that cool little gidget that activates an electrical switch via a whoosh of air, so you can use it with wet soapy hands and not give yourself a perm. -- My copper bling, for what it's worth: Moen Aberdeen faucet, faucet handle, air switch for disposal (really great since I have no real wall on that wall), and filtered drinking water faucet. To gross out those of you without pets (remodeling is thirsty work!):...See MoreHow much flow rate for kitchen sink on demand hot water heater?
Comments (1)Link to map with average water temps. You'll probably want to dig deeper to try to find the minimum water temps though. (I remember reading something a long time ago that the minimum water temp is in late spring so, if all else fails, you could measure your water temp now & get close.) Also, if you're doing a new build & will have your own well, my experience is that well water is always colder than city water. As far as flow rate, new faucets are limited to something like 2.2 gpm so you can go from there & adjust for however many faucets (that you anticipate to be operating at the same time) that the heater will serve. Oh, and don't forget to allow for dishwasher hot H2O demand. Here is a link that might be useful: Average Shallow Ground Water Temps...See MoreShelf brackets! Yikes $$$$$! Help! Comments (10)I just bought brackets at HD. They are in the gate hardware area. Was surprised how heavy they are and well made. Available in stainless or black, nice style (not the plain garage looking ones). Two different sizes, less than $15 each. You could look at them and see what the weight strength is, plus if the design would work. There are two different sizes. Just checked their web site and these are not shown....See Morermkitchen
