Godiva Chocolate Liqueur

I must be living right. A sweet friend gave me a 750ml bottle of Godiva Liqueur. Other than simply inserting a straw, what shall I do with this lovely stuff.

I'm for the straw method.

Or... Chocolatinis! Combine the godiva with vodka and bailey's. I don't have an exact recipe but you can experiment with quantities to see what you like best. Rim the glass with cocoa powder before serving. Delicious.

I've made Sarsaparilla tea that tasted like root beer but never made root beer. Like Bumblebeez, I tend to use liqueurs rather than extracts, and my favorites are Frangelico, Amaretto, Cointreau, Godiva Chocolate liqueur, and several versions of Kahlua, including Mocha (my favorite) and hazelnut. I really like Mocha Kahlua on ice cream but am almost out and am having trouble finding it again. I think they may make it only at Christmas and New Year's. The liqueurs are not as strong as extracts and work in a lot of drinks as well as recipes. I use them a lot with ice cream but also in other creme anglaise recipes such as Bavarian Cream. For extracts, I only have vanilla (Cook's brand, which is okay) and almond (brand unknown). I seldom use the almond extract since I generally substitute Amaretto instead. I've noticed that Indian markets sell a lot of extracts, but I have not used many of them yet, including several that I have in my pantry. Lars

Flamingo, you can do up a big batch in a pitcher or something and have folks just shake over ice and pour into a glass... Something else I've done that works really well (but isn't at all fancy) is to pre-mix the drinks, pour them into 4-oz jelly jars, lid them and bury them in a tub of crushed ice a couple hours before the party. The idea is that rather than guests spilling all over your kitchen or you being chained to the shaker all night, guests can fish out a drink (color coded for clarity), put the lid on a tray next to the ice bucket, and pour into a fancy glass... though most guests prefer to drink right out of the jelly jars! If it's a drink that requires a bit of carbonated beverage, I leave that out, use a larger jar, and leave room in the jar for the guests to top it off when they serve themselves. I did the jelly jar once on a lark, and now get requests for them when I ask what I can bring. Initially, I was embarrassed because they aren't very posh, but they are practical and efficient, and I fill them with very good ingredients...

I've made it three times in the past week! Delish. The creme anglaise is very quick and seems to come out a little thin initially (I use our normal 1% milk) but it thickens in the fridge if you can chill for a while. I made a modified version for the kids last time around; gave them the same cocktail glass rimmed with the creme anglaise and then a choice of toasted coconut or minced heath bars. Then, quickly blended vanilla icecream with the creme anglaise for them (about equal portions). Definitely a hit.

I also like my coffee black, cynic, and don't even know how to use Ashley's k-cup coffee maker, she wants all that flavored stuff. I do like the local Biggby Coffee breakfast blend, but have started just buying beans and roasting my own coffee as I don't like Folgers or Maxwell House or Starbucks or Dunkin' Donuts. I have a percolator, but really like the Chemex best. I will plead guilty to a caramel mocha about twice a year, when I want something sweet and thick. I'm not an ice cream fan, particularly, so I get that when others are getting shakes or sundaes. No liquor as I detest the stuff in any amount, and no cold coffee. Like cynic, I want it hot and I want it black. Elery does like iced coffee in the summer, though, so I make some cold brew for him sometimes. Thanks for the directions, Donna. My girls and my mother? They'll put half a cup of flavored cream and half a cup of coffee. Fine with me, I even buy the creamer, LOL. My mother's favorite is raspberry/white chocolate, and I stock up when I find it so she can get her "fix". Other times she drinks her coffee black, you just never know what her mood is going to be. LindaC, a local coffee company used to have a cinnamon flavored coffee and I loved it. Now it tastes different, so they probably "cheaped" it in some way. Putting a spoonful of cinnamon in my coffee pot is OK and did not mess up the filter, but doesn't taste right either. It wasn't sweet, but it wasn't astringent. Chocolate Martini recipe..

1 1/2 shots Godiva chocolate liqueur
1 1/2 shots creme de cacao
1/2 shot vodka
2 1/2 shots half-and-half

Mix all ingredients in a shaker with ice, shake & pour into a chilled martini glass.

don't spoil it with anything else......just sip....the only possible forgivable adulteration might be some heavy cream floating on top.
If you are making chocolate martinis, use the cheap stuff.

I just told hubs that when he declares himself well, I will get him a bottle of this! He is a chocoholic, and he would love it!

I always keep some on hand, and I put it on home-made vanilla ice cream. Shaun's recipe looks good, and I might try that. I haven't had cheap chocolate liqueur, but if Linda recommends it for chocolate martinis, I might have to look for some. I don't really like having it by itself, but I have mixed it with Frangelico or Amaretto (I prefer Frangelico).

My mother likes it in coffee, kind of an alcoholic "mocha", Ashley puts it into hot chocolate and I add it to frosting, sometimes.

Can you tell that I bought a bottle and don't know what the heck to do with it all?

one time, while feeling especially indulgent, I dipped the chilled martini glassess in magic shell and then put some chocolate jimmies on the rim. A moment in the freezer and they were the perfect vehicle for godiva chocolate martinis.

Well...I'll tell you right now, if I had some it would be in my glass.....and I don't even have any of the cheap stuff.
I might have to do a drap of Drambui....and that's verging on instant headache for me!

I'm all for the straw method, but failing that . . .

Have Christmas in July-- crank up the AC and put it in some good hot chocolate or coffee :-)

I love it in hot cocoa, too! But, it's fabulous in your favorite truffle recipe. Alton Brown's recipe is good -- just substitute the liqueur for the brandy. I've also made these using Godiva's Caramel Liqueur (omg!).

I admit to a bit in my morning coffee thus far. I will have some soon with a bit of cream. I think it is wasted in my coffee.
