Godiva Chocolate Liqueur

I must be living right. A sweet friend gave me a 750ml bottle of Godiva Liqueur. Other than simply inserting a straw, what shall I do with this lovely stuff.

I'm for the straw method.

Or... Chocolatinis! Combine the godiva with vodka and bailey's. I don't have an exact recipe but you can experiment with quantities to see what you like best. Rim the glass with cocoa powder before serving. Delicious.

It's here, and of course, low-calorie too! Raspberry Shortbread Bars 1 C. butter, preferably unsalted, at room temperature 1 C. sugar 2 egg yolks 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract all-purpose flour 2 C. flour 3/8 tsp. salt (if using salted butter, just a pinch salt) 1 C walnuts or pecans, chopped 1/2 C raspberry jam Preheat over to 325 F. Cream butter and sugar till light. Add egg yolks and vanilla and beat until well incorporated. Add flour and salt and mix till a soft dough forms. Add nuts (if you like, reserve 1/4 cup of the nuts for the top). Line a 9"x9" baking pan with aluminum foil, leaving a couple inches on either side as handles to remove the cake from the pan. Grease the foil with butter or baking spray. (This helps get the cake out in one piece for easier cutting; if you'd rather not bother, just grease the pan.) Divide the dough in half. Press one half evenly into the bottom of the pan. Spread the jam over the dough, leaving about 1/2" of uncovered dough on all sides. Place the remaining dough on top and press against the edges to seal. (This step can be tricky, because the dough wants to slide on top of the jam as you flatten it. I've found it best to flatten 3 or 4 pieces of the dough into rough oblong shapes in my hands, then place those in the pan, aligned with the sides. Press the top layer against the bottom at the edges first and, working from the sides to the middle, bring the pieces together to make a single layer. Overlaps or small cracks or holes in the dough are OK.) If you reserved 1/4 C of the nuts, sprinkle those on top and press lightly into the dough. Bake until the top of the cake is set and light brown, about 50 to 60 mins. Let cake cool in pan. If you've lined the pan with foil, it's best to remove the cake from the pan while it's a bit warmer than room temperature and pull the foil away from the sides, then let cool completely. (The foil tends to stick to the jam once it's completely cool.) Cut into bars of whatever size you want, dust with powdered sugar, if you like, and eat.

I am so "on the cusp" it's hard for me to keep from calling vodka based drinks served in martini glasses "martinis", but totally get that gin is the only martini. Here's my favorite vodka based "martini" drink. What else can this generation call drinks that are made in that style (pure to almost pure liquor/served in a martini glass)???! Godiva Chocolate Martini recipe 1 1/2 shots GodivaÂ® chocolate liqueur 1 1/2 shots creme de cacao 1/2 shot vodka 2 1/2 shots half-and-half Dip a glass in liquid (your choice, 1/2 and 1/2, vodka, chocolate liqueur...). Rim the glass with powdered chocolate drink mix (I know, I know, but it looks so pretty :). Swirl a glass with chocolate syrup. Add all liquid ingredients in a shaker along with ice. Pour into glass and garnish with either a cherry or a coffee bean. The coffee bean is more traditional, but cherries are becoming more widely seen. Very ultra decadent. -Robin

You could probably get away with the chocolate you're using if you melt it, spread it paper thin on waxed paper, let harden and break up into flakes. Thinner pieces won't be as challenging as actual chunks. Alternatively, I often put diced brownies in my ice cream. When adding 'extras' like candy, brownie pieces, broken chocolate covered pretzles--I chop them up, and put them in the freezer, then add to the ice cream just the last few minutes of the churning time, when the ice cream is just about done. You only want to mix them in, not take a chance the add-ins will be crushed or broken during the mixing process.

I'm all for supporting BevMo, which used to be Beverages & More, was run into the ground by dumb buyers, then repurchased by the original founders when it was almost comatose. They brought it back to life and have done a good job. I went there to buy Scotch for my handyman when I wanted to give him a bonus. Just went in and said, "Who knows the most about Scotch here?" and sure enough, was guided to a terrific Scotch my guy had never tried and absolutely loved. However, if I need something really special I go to a local store in San Francisco which is renowned for having the best of everything, and if they don't have it they can get it. A friend and I tried the Pappy Van Winkle 20-yr old Bourbon in a restaurant and this store was the one I immediately thought of to buy a bottle - and sure enough, they had it and could ship one to my friend (and one to me, LOL). Stupendous stuff, a real after-dinner sipper. Don't know if you're into port and madeira? My favs are the Dow 30 yr Old Tawny Port and I was just introduced to the 15 year-old Verdelho Madeira from Henrique & Henrique's at a local Portugese-Brazilian restaurant. Much better than the super-sweet Malmsey Madeiras you find in most places; this was more like a dry sherry crossed with a tawny port. Really luscious!

Chocolate Martini recipe..

1 1/2 shots Godiva chocolate liqueur
1 1/2 shots creme de cacao
1/2 shot vodka
2 1/2 shots half-and-half

Mix all ingredients in a shaker with ice, shake & pour into a chilled martini glass.

don't spoil it with anything else......just sip....the only possible forgivable adulteration might be some heavy cream floating on top.
If you are making chocolate martinis, use the cheap stuff.

I just told hubs that when he declares himself well, I will get him a bottle of this! He is a chocoholic, and he would love it!

I always keep some on hand, and I put it on home-made vanilla ice cream. Shaun's recipe looks good, and I might try that. I haven't had cheap chocolate liqueur, but if Linda recommends it for chocolate martinis, I might have to look for some. I don't really like having it by itself, but I have mixed it with Frangelico or Amaretto (I prefer Frangelico).

My mother likes it in coffee, kind of an alcoholic "mocha", Ashley puts it into hot chocolate and I add it to frosting, sometimes.

Can you tell that I bought a bottle and don't know what the heck to do with it all?

one time, while feeling especially indulgent, I dipped the chilled martini glassess in magic shell and then put some chocolate jimmies on the rim. A moment in the freezer and they were the perfect vehicle for godiva chocolate martinis.

Well...I'll tell you right now, if I had some it would be in my glass.....and I don't even have any of the cheap stuff.
I might have to do a drap of Drambui....and that's verging on instant headache for me!

Have Christmas in July-- crank up the AC and put it in some good hot chocolate or coffee :-)

I love it in hot cocoa, too! But, it's fabulous in your favorite truffle recipe. Alton Brown's recipe is good -- just substitute the liqueur for the brandy. I've also made these using Godiva's Caramel Liqueur (omg!).

I admit to a bit in my morning coffee thus far. I will have some soon with a bit of cream. I think it is wasted in my coffee.
