Do you have experience with Minka-Lavery light fixtures?

For our now-being-remodeled kitchen, we've found a wall sconce we like by Minka-Lavery. It's amazingly inexpensive, which is welcome yet also waves a red flag before my eyes. Does anyone have experience with this brand, especially reliability in use and quality of surface finish?

We used Minka-Lavery fixtures in our kitchen remodel 2 years ago. We had ordered a chandelier and a pendant for over the sink from a local lighting store and paid quite a bit for them. The pendant came in but it was too big--the chandelier never came. I got my money back and started looking on line and stumbled across Minka-Lavery and that's what we bought. Less money, the electrician loved it, so did we. Good quality--we get tons of compliments. Ours is Bellasera. Goes great with oil rubbed bronze.

wood, There is absolutely nothing wrong with experimenting! I've started and later tossed probably a hundred plants just to see how they would perform under different lights, different soil mixes, different hydro solutions. And I do not believe everything I read from on-line posts (See Struw's posts and those about Monsanto leading the way to outlaw backyard gardens!). At the same time, if I read enough experiences from smart growers - including those herb people - that is backed by science, I tend to believe them. I have another experiment I'm trying now - supplementing a R/B/O 125-watt LED with a 2.8 watt, 60 bulb white LED. It has a blueish cast to it and doesn't produce many lumens but I can let it touch the plant, and I get about 20,000 lux at that distance. It's to see if it affects the internode length. As I want to grow several (60) tomato plants indoors this winter, I need to keep them short and stocky so the LED lights are effective. I'll also experiment with different nuits for the hydro. Toms really don't need much nitrogen so once the plant starts growing I plan on switching to more P & K plus calcium. Much to my surprise, and this is from an accident, hydro toms don't seem to need much in the way of foliage. Thanks to inept weather forecasters, I didn't open my GH doors one day when the temps were in the 40s and the forecast was for mostly cloudy skies with highs barely reaching 50. Instead, it became very, very sunny and warmed up to 60. By the time I got home, the temps inside, two feet off the ground, were 125. My air pump shut down and I lost all but one plant out of the nine in hydro (the dirt ones survived, but the baby toms were fried). On the plant that survived, almost all the foliage was toast. But a few leaves survived and later blooms appeared. Since then, three toms have formed and almost all the other leaves have died. But those toms continue to grow. I'll be curious to see how they do. Personally, I wouldn't feel compelled to switch. But, some of the single-lever valve trims look pretty nice, and not like what you see in motels, with those huge dials. I would look around, and not limit consideration to Delta and Moen. If you are still considering keeping the old-style set-up, take a look at what California Faucets sells, and visit a dealer that features their stuff and talk to them. I wouldn't get hung up on "matching" a faucet and light fixture. In fact, too matchy is not always the best look. (A living room with a quirky but compatible collection of furnishings may give a better impression than a package matched living room set.) What you want are things that you like and that look right in the same room, which usually isn't hard. Take a look at some photos on the web, and see the variety of pairings.

Do you have dimmable recessed lights in master bath?

Hi all, I'm not sure if this question is appropriate here or if it really should be a separate thread, but since so many of you have so many dimmers, I thought you might have some ideas or experience. I would dearly love to put dimmers on my living room and master bedroom overhead lights. But both light fixtures are combo light/fan fixtures each operated by a single switch. I had done some quick googling a while ago and found that dimmers are very problematic to use with combo light/fans as they create problems for fan operation. Personally, I think our ceiling fans may be kinda ugly, but they are very practical and won't be coming down any time soon. Has anyone had their overhead light/fan combo re-wired so the light is on a dimmer and the fan is operated separately? I'm certainly no electrician, and am wondering how difficult/expensive this might be to accomplish.

I put up M-L exterior light fixtures around my house 2 years ago and have no complaints. Fixtures are sturdy, visually appealing and problem free at a very reasonable cost. Bought 2 large lantern pieces to flank the front door and 8 smaller fixtures for around the sides and garage doors. I will certainly consider the same brand for indoor fixtures when I get to that point.

Thanks, lmalm53, for your response. So far I haven't gotten any complaints about Minka-Lavery fixtures, so that's great news.

We have 2 Minka-Lavery chandeliers and have been very happy with both the price and the quality. They're just beautiful and were an easy DIY install.

Our only complaint had to do with the company we purchased them from --LightingByGregory.com. HORRIBLE shipping time and TERRIBLE Customer Service--I would never recommend them to anyone. I called them after our purchases hadn't been received 5 weeks later--I was lied to and told that they had been shipped when they hadn't, and then I was hung up on. (I was livid and called right back, much to his surprise...)

Great products...just be careful where you purchase/order from!
