Uses for Wrinkly Tomatoes?

We have a bumper crop of cherry and Roma tomatoes this year, and I have a large bowl of them on the kitchen counter that have started to get wrinkly. Would love any suggestions of how to use them once they are a little past their prime. Thanks!

Make a pasta sauce.

Olive Oil
Tomatoes
(Fresh at this time of year)
Garlic
Basil (both dried and fresh)
salt
pepper
Kalamata Olives (optional)
hot red pepper flakes (optional)
Fresh grated Parmesan

Just heat the olive oil, add garlic, tomatoes, dried basil, salt, pepper and hot red pepper flakes (if using).
Add olives (optional)
Simmer for 5 to 10 minutes.

Toss with pasta and fresh basil and serve.

Or make a meat sauce with some ground pork and add the cherry tomatoes.

Pork Meat sauce with Tomatoes and Basil
1 pound lean ground pork
1 small onion chopped
2 to 3 garlic cloves
2 cups coarsely chopped tomatoes
1 cup of chicken broth
Crushed Red Chili Flakes
Dried basil
Fresh rosemary
Fresh basil
Optional; Add some spinach or swiss chard

Brown ground pork in a little olive oil.

Add the chopped onion and minced garlic.
Saute until onions are tender. Add the chopped tomatoes, dried basil, Chili Flakes,
rosemary and chicken broth. Season with salt and Pepper , cover and
simmer for 45 minutes.

Just before serving add the chopped basil.
Serve over your favourite pasta shape.

Cut in half....drizzle with oil and dry in a 200 oven until they are leathery.

Sure you "can" but it isn't recommended or encouraged. The question comes up now and then and as a general guideline, re-canning any commercially canned product is not recommended. This is because they contain additives and stabilizers, because the double processing markedly reduces the flavor and quality, and it is a really inefficient use of your time and the energy used for processing given the end result. Your choice, but it would be far better to buy the large cans, parcel them up and freeze them. Dave

Looks like the plant dried out, tips of leaves burned, berries shriveled. You can still eat some of them, kind of like halfway to a dried blueberry. Plants in pots need frequent watering (especially blueberries, which like moist soil)

What is the 'normal' soil - is it from a garden? did you buy it in bags? - if so, what are the ingredients?(it should be written on the bag). When you say 'tiny rocks' - are they the clay balls that seems to be mixed into soil? They look like LECA to me, but whatever they are, they are too big for proper mix. If leaves start getting dark spots (as is visible in your photo) and get soft and fall off, I would suggest it is from over watering. Are there drainage holes in your containers? Your second plant is Kalanchoe tomentosa, and should start very easily from a leaf. Maybe leaf was not healthy, I do not know. But in my experience, almost every leaf that sits on top of substrate will root. If any succulent leaves grow roots & tiny pup, you could sprinkle little of the mix over them and start watering.

Hi Lily. Our Maybe-Intrigue standard has done this in the last 6 weeks or so too. It's not as bad as it has been at the moment, but this plant has been giving me the fits. I feel like it's had/s nearly everything. :-( The wavy/wrinkles seem to have mostly gone away except for a few spots. I have been fertilizing our container roses with a little liquid fish emulsion approx every 3 weeks. None of the others container roses have shown this problem. I have also been clipping the worst looking leaves off of it pretty regularly. The wrinkly ones I mostly left because there were so many at one point, and the yellow or crispy leaves looked worse. Not sure if this info helps? At this point I just feel lucky that this standard is not completely leafless (again), and looks sort of decent for my mother-in-law's visit next week. This is her first visit since the start of the rose part of my gardening hobby.
