I'd go stainless and not just because over all it's the more popular choice. Even though everyone worries that SSL is harder to keep clean, I have found quite the opposite to be true. My stainless steel stove has a black inset under the burners that thing never looks clean no matter how many times I wipe it down. It drives me crazy. Also it's just my opinion, but I think that unless your room is larger, black appliances tend to eat up the space and make a room look smaller especially the larger sized refrigerators.

I guess if you want to get what is most popular at the moment and what most everyone else has you'd get stainless. If I had to choose today between black and stainless I'd get black because I'm really tired of looking at stainless.

I've had both black and stainless appliances, and think the stainless silver color would work better with your cabinet and floor colors. It's a nice neutral. I personally think that it's easier to maintain stainless than black glass.

We built our house with a very open kitchen and frameless contemporary cabinets in larch, very much like what we have in the rest of the house. We decided to panel as many of the appliances as we could to cut down on the contrast. This eliminates the "miles of stainless" or "black hole" appearance.

I have stainless steel appliances with my natural cherry cabinets and love them. Only bad thing is the stove top is black glass and it shows every little speck of dust. I'm so glad I didn't go with all black appliances.

We have medium dark mahogany cabinets which are very similar in color to cherry cabinets we have in the bathroom. We have light maple floors and dark gray/black counters. I really like having a mixture of stainless and black appliances. Our range is black with some stainless steel trim, the hood is ss, the dw and fridge are ss, the mw is black and ss (the black door is the dominant color) and just underneath we have a ss large toaster oven. The spattering of black in the appliances tie in with the counters (and the dark hardware and lighting fixtures) and the stainless helps lighten the room a little.

My friend has black appliances with darker cherry cabinets and black quartz counters, and I think they look good. Also, the black costs less than stainless.

We have a new SS refrigerator, SS slide in range and micro but kept our black DW.
I think the black looks very good with the cherry, but then I like black and the cabinets
also have a black glaze on them which blends them nicely.

I would choose SS , just so that it is safe & popular and will not overcrowd your kitchen.

However I wanted to let you know that I chose all the appliances in SS except the stove top. I went for a black glass stovetop to stay away from the scratches.
