Keep 'em down there, OK?

Do you ever get used to them?

Glad to hear from you - hope you and your kitties are OK.

I'm on the opposite coast, but had relatives in Santa Monica for a while. A 3.4 hit while I was there once. Don't know where the epicenter was, but it sure was scary to me. I have never heard so much noise from so much quiet. There was an strange silence that just didn't seem right, afterward. My cousin lived on the top floor of a a 7 story condo bldg, right next to the highway - I think the 5. I saw a VW and a semi drive by, but I kept hearing a strang noise - like a lot of cars were driving by. Then, the silence. I love your state and would love to live there. But, the quakes would drive me nuts.

Hope that's the last one - or at least not an immediate forecast. Stay safe!!

I grew up in an area that has frequent earthquakes, usually small ones, and I did get used to them.

Even when we've had big quakes here in Southern California it doesn't scare me much. I would be a lot more frightened of a tornado.

We only felt this one so strongly because it was practically under our house, for pity's sake! I don't think anything fell and I doubt there was damage. We will check in the morning.

Lindakathy, we'll try to keep them down here as much as possible, but I can't promise.

Anything under a 4 is pretty mild. DH and I once rented a house on Big Island, Hawaii. I was starting to make dinner one evening when there was a loud noise and the house shook. I thought possibly the water heater had exploded, but...no. Went next door to where two couples were playing bridge on their lanai. I asked, "What was THAT?" They looked at one another for a moment and then said, "Oh, you must mean that little quake. We have 'em all the time." (It was a 3.2.)

That's weird. I didn't feel it. I usually can feel 3.4 and above and I am close enough to LA. Hmmmm. Strange. Hope the cats have recovered.

No you don't get used to them because when they start you don't know if it's just a "jiggle" or the beginning of a "whopper." You don't know if it's a big quake and you're far from the epicenter, or maybe you are at the epicenter and it's building up to last longer than a few seconds, becoming stronger as it occurs.

I don't live in fear, however. We have supplies on hand, not all well organized, and gallons of water in the garage.

I didn't feel it either! This is the first I've heard of it too. I was born and raised her...maybe I just don't feel them anymore??? LOL....just kidding...I still feel them! And they still scare me if they are big enough!

Think I heard Hollister (N/Central Ca.) had a handful of them this last week also.

yeah, I heard that you got one. Anchorage just had a 5.7 this morning! We haven't had one in about 6 or 7 years now... well, not anything over 3....
