Yoo hoo golddust ~ Welcome to the other side LOL. I'm Nora from mid New York State. I've been married for 20 years and we have a 26 yo DS. DH and I got together when Eli was a little over 4 years old and we married when he was six. There is definitely truth in nurture vs. nature because they are like two peas in a pod ;o) We live on 7 idyllic acres in a small hamlet in southern Dutchess County with our pug, Tootie, and kitties Bitsy and Bundles. DS and his GF live in a cottage on our property, which is a blessing. We love to renovate anything that isn't nailed down and it seems that we're in a constant state of flux (no pun intended considering your metier). We also love to garden, which we do with fervor, though not always with as much success as we'd like. The earth tells us what it needs and most of the time we pay attention. But when we don't we learn early on that we should have listened to Mother Nature. Welcome!!

I agree with you michael. I hate posing for pictures too. It is nice to see a few more posts on this topic. I spend all day working on computers that i don't always want to be near one when i get home. Anyway, I am a male, and i love my powertools. My favorite has got to be the recipricating saw. That is why the first part of my name, the second part came from my youngest daughter. Someone asked her where i worked and without missing a beat told them i was the computer geek for the schools. She wants to be one too when she gets older. I already have both of them trained for running all the wires and cables for my house. The are still young enough to not realize that this is really work. lol. Well hope you all had a great day!! Mike

    Tally, from Los Angeles, California.

Married, no kids. 8 stray & shelter indoor only cats at the moment - all with special needs.

Undergrad B.A. with a major in Literature and a minor in Music. Went into nursing, went back to college for one year to do my pre-med (whew! that was a year). Spent the summer before med school working in a large chain retail store and was asked to go into their executive training program for management. That was the end of my medical career and the beginning of my retail experience.

Spent several years in retail management at the both store and buyer levels. Learned a lot about listening to the customer, getting into trends early and getting out of bad buys quickly.

From the operational side of retail I went into the planning function, analyzing store inventory turnover, sales, margins etc. That was the end of my retail career and the beginning of my Finance career.

Went back to school and got my MBA from UCLA while working fulltime. I've been an entertainment finance executive for 20 years and am working at a major motion picture studio in a job that I love.

I like to garden, I play the Celtic harp, I am currently back into doing counted cross stitching, I like to collect Department 56 lighted villages, carnival glass, Fitz & Floyd character pieces and crystal animals.

I've been on the internet since 1996 and I built my website by hand in 1997, long before publishing software was available, and I still manage it by hand.

I started to respond to this a few days ago, and my PC froze up. Now that I've found it again, I'm going to give it another try :-) I really like this thread, btw.

Joyce - from the Michgan UP's Keweenaw peninsula.

Married to Gary on June 25, 2008. Third marriage for both of us.

Two adult children (in MN and MD) and two kids-in-law. No grandkids of my own.

Two step-kids from my second marriage (both in college)

Four step-kids from my current marriage, one 15 year old still at home.

Several grandkids that I had to marry my husband, Gary, to gain possession of :-)

I work in IT - doing telephone support for an IBM product.

Have been on GW for years, on KT for maybe 2-3 years off and on.

Have three dogs, a Tibetan spaniel, and two Pekingese mixes - all adopted from rescue.

I enjoy and am active with my family, gardening, photography, back yard bird watching, four wheeling, spending weekends at our primitive cabin on 5 wooded acres, antiquing, garage sales, and I also enjoy (but don't do so much any more because my DH doesn't participate) horses, fishing and boating, golfing. Lots of other interests.

I'm at a happy place in my life. I love where I live - I moved here a year and a half ago and feel like I've come home. My husband and kids make me happy. I enjoy life in general. The only thing I'd like to add is retirement with enough income to do the things I enjoy and also to travel a little.

I guess I should put my 2 cents in. LOL

My name is Anne, 53. I live across the river from Detroit in Windsor, Ontario Canada in the area that is known as Olde Riverside. Live in the house I grew up in with my 7 siblings who all pretty much live close by.

I have 2 pets of my own Lucy a small black and white cat and Loki who just turned 12 and is a wonderful lab mix. both my animals have tons of personality and are the joy of my life. My sister Marjorie boards her cat Chloe at my house in return she pays my house and life insurance which will never equal the amount of damage Chloe has done to my furniture and my hardwood floors. Chloe is a gentle cat though and is about 14 years old.

I love cooking and baking and spend most of my time in my new kitchen. I love this sunny bright yellow room so much I put my computer in here. Little cold in the winter time though because I have the computer set up next to the fridge and the front picture window is on my right which is drafty on my back. I often sit on the computer wearing gloves and always have those hand warmers that heat up nearby to take the chill off.

I am not working full time right now - not too many job openings in Windsor but I am hoping that will change soon. I have a rental house that pays the bills. I work for Elections Canada in my local riding as the Recruitment Officer whenever there is an Election call which has been quite frequent these last few years. I recently did a job for EC to put in place my recruitment plan for the next election which could happen sometime this year or next year.

I spend a lot of my computer time working on my family genealogy. Yesterday I found on the internet by fluke the names of my GGGG Grandfather and Mother on my Dad's side. I haven't had much luck finding any info on my Mom's family in Scotland. I think you need to go to pay sites which I don't do. I just keep plugging names into search engines and every few months or even weeks something new has been translated from old records and put on the internet.

I need to get back to doing my counted cross stitch. I have many unfinished pieces and I still have a standing order for Christmas decorations that need to be made whenever I can find the linens for them and someone to assemble them for me.

Life is good. I wake every morning with a song in my heart and laughter in my voice.

    Anne

    Pretty boring.
I'm Monica...born in South Philadelphia, PA.
Moved to South Jersey before my 1st birthday, and lived the next 21 years there - vowing to move back to PA when I grew up.
Married, and moved to PA, Western Phila suburbs...where I still reside.
    No children.
Marriage lasted just short of 36 years, when DH died of cancer, in my arms.
Entire working life 1963-2008 spent working with and in the computer industry - traveled internationally for work and loved every minute, meeting people and designing systems, troubleshooting, then teaching others in government and corporate settings.

Met a wonderful man and was married again last fall.

Now, a suburban housewife and, thanks to new DH, a grandmother who keeps a full cookie jar in the kitchen.

Hi All. I've mostly lurked in the darkness for a long time. Recently started to do a little posting. Love reading this board.

Barbara from Knoxville, TN by way of Athens, Ga, Goldsboro, NC, Smyrna, GA, New Orleans and Mobile, AL. Been in Knoxville the last 29 years

Married at 18 and still married to the same wonderful guy for almost 43 years.

Office manager for a marketing company. Stayed home and raised the kids until one son was in college and the other in high school.

Two sons, both married, one lives here in town, one went to London to do international law for a year or two. That was about 10 years ago and he is still there. He loves it and is now married and has just bought a flat in London. Don't expect him to move back to the states any time in the foreseeable future. Besides, they want us to live part-time with them when we retire. They even bought a flat with a room for us! Can't wait for that. He does come home often and we visit him, too.

No grandkids yet, but I keep hoping.

Two Ragdoll cats, Lucy and Gracie, that rule our house and our lives.

Love to go to casinos and play the slots. Glad we don't live very close to any! Love surfing the internet and do way too much of it some days! Also love to travel both in the US and in Europe. So many places to see and things to do.

Basically a very happy and content person and often think "Life is Good!", even with all the problems we have.

Hi, my name is Barbara, and I have been married to Tom for 28 years.
We have 3 sons. The oldest lives in Oregon and he is an engineer. The middle guy is a plumber and he lives in Brooklyn, NY. The youngest still lives at home with us, but he will be moving to Oregon to try to make a home out there.
We live in Larchmont, NY (1/2 hour from NYC).
My FIL moved in with us last year which has made our lives pretty hectic.
I love to read, garden, decorate, spend time with my sisters (my best friends), go "out on dates" with my DH whenever we get the chance, and I am looking forward to retiring in a few years.
I have worked for my brother for the last 14 years....he owns his own company. I LOVE my job.
We are owned by the sweetest, most loving dog, Declan (hence, my name).
All in all, life is good. My favorite motto is:
    Be Calm....Be Strong...Be Grateful.

I'm Tami from Ohio, as you can see from my user name. Married almost 28 years. Two kids, one of each. DD sometimes posts here as perfectpets. She just turned 26 and has a 6 year old son, Damien. DS is 22.

We love to travel the USA, and have a 30' motor home to do it in. Jel48, we were in the Keweenaw Peninsula twice this summer! I wish I had known. We could have met. We were there in July and in October.

We have met a lot of KT'ers and will be happy to meet more.

I love to knit, crochet, & read, mostly historical romance, but modern works, too!

We have two house rabbits, Sonny & Sydney, short for Obsidion. Sonny is a beautiful honey color, Sydney is black and white. We have had them since 2005. They are litter trained and have a kennel in the kitchen that they live in. When we spend time in the kitchen, they get to run loose with the door closed to the rest of the house.

I've been a memeber of the KT since about 1999.

    Hi Kids...

I am Sooey and I am one of the few folks here at the KT to live in MA. We retired to Cape Cod in 2007. Before that, we lived for 30 years on the shoreline of CT. I have been a member of Garden Web/THS since Spike started it way back in the 90s'...that is a long, long time. They have been my 'go to' forums to ask questions on everything...garden, plumbing, cooking, knitting, birding. They are the best!

I just turned 60 this past December. My husband and I were married in '72. We have two wonderful, smart, beautiful, accomplished daughters...31 & 28. I became a Grandma for the first time this past November. LOVE IT!

I like to bake, garden and love to knit. Life is mostly good.

I live in northern Indiana with my oldest daughter and son-in-law. I was born almost 81 years ago in Duluth, MN, but lived in Wisconsin most of my life when my father transferred from Lake Superior to the shores of Lake Michigan with the Coast Guard. I was married 17 years and have been widowed 39 years. I have three daughters, three granddaughters and one grandson. I retired from a major corporation as a legal secretary 14 years ago. I spend my day playing on the computer, reading and occasionally cooking, plus cuddling the Dachshund who demands a lot of attention. Two of my grandchildren are very musical. My grandson is getting his Masters in music and my 16 y.o. granddaughter has the Judy Garland lead in her high school musical Meet Me in St. Louis, which we will be traveling to Wisconsin to see the end of this month. My oldest granddaughter is a first grade teacher and my second oldest works in Minneapolis.

I've been a long-time lurker and decided to join in the fun.

I live in Paradise, Ca. Married for 33 years. Husband and I are retired. Enjoy living in the country. Have one grown son and two grandchildren - a boy almost two and a girl almost five. I use to be involved in hobbies - stained glass projects, porcelain painting, and belonged to a writing class. But this past year was been pretty busy so had to put hobbies on hold for awhile.

We're looking at starting a kitchen reno before too long.

Hi! I'm Iva -79 years old and live in London, Ontario, Canada. I joined here when it was still pay to join. I have really enjoyed my stay and have received much help from others.

I live with my son and both of us have a lot of health issues, so it is a great arrangement.

    I have 2 children, a wonderful son-in-law, 2 grandchildren and 1 great grandson.

I lost my partner at Christmas time, 1999. I have 10 step-children,some in Canada, 1 in Ohio, and 3 in Hungary.

We have a 10 year old mixed breed dog, who is a great comfort to both of us. He is very excitable and certainly loves having company. I just got back from walking him.

I've met several K.Ters and found that a wonderful experience.

I do a lot of knitting and crocheting. I used to sew a lot but have gooten a way from most of that. Must start to do more. I was given a huge amount of yarn and have kept myself busy making things for homeless men. It gives me a good feeling. I have also crocheted an afghan that the hospital gives to their dialysis patience, and am now working on a lapghan. I hope one of the nursing homes may have use for it.

    This thread is just great.

    Thanks

I'm Deby and live rurally in Northern California. Grass Valley is known as 'The Heart of the Gold Country'. I am 55 years old and have 3 kids. The oldest DD just turned 40, our middle DS is 25 and our youngest DS will be 22 at the end of March. Our oldest daughter was born just two months after I turned 15. I raised her by myself and supported us both until I married Robert when she was 13. Our sons are adopted. I love my kids and am very proud of them all. Aimee is a jewelry designer. Derek is a salesman and Max is attending University and working with mentally ill substance abusers. H spent two years in the middle east, learning Arabic at University.

My screen name, 'Golddust', is after a nickname my sister and I grew up with - 'The Gold Dust Twins'. I grew up in a gold mining turned mill town at the base of the Sierra Nevada mountains. The population was 125, counting dogs, cats and flies. I attended a one room victorian era school house with 17 other kids in 1st through 8th grades.

I have been married to my 2nd husband for 28 years. We own a jewelry manufacturing business and have 10 employees. We purchased an old house when our youngest was young and now find ourselves rambling around with our two beloved dogs. Dubs is a Chessie mixed with pony. He weighs 120 pounds and is getting old and his bones are arthritic. Isabelle is our english bulldog/diva who is completely self-absorbed.

I have founded several non-profits in my life. A vocational art program for developmentally disabled adults, and adoption agency, two charter schools and currently I am president of an internationally base non profit organization.

We are working on finishing up my beautiful bathroom upstairs. I call it my happy bathroom because it is cheery. We have to tile the large shower room, which is 7' x 4'. (That is a whole lot of tiling!)

I am traveling back and forth helping my 86 year old MIL re-do her kitchen (New appliances, sink, granite, refinish cabinets, paint, etc.) It's been a pain in the neck as she lives in Santa Clara - 4 hours away. That said, I have decided if I live to be 86, I might make my kids re-do my kitchen too. LOL!

I have not spent so much time with my MIL as I have recently and I am priding myself in how well I have learned to deal with her. She can be something else! She has 3 boys who all pull into her driveway with their cars already in reverse. She will say something very kind then follow it up with the meanest comments that she always says "is just a joke." ("Are you pregnant?, My you have a fat butt," etc.). Keep in mind, I wear a woman's size 8. True, I used to be a size 6 but I am still a ways away from the plus sizes. I am going down again Monday to clean all her cabinet drawers out and organize her garage.

I love fixing up my house. I just finished turning one of my 4 bedrooms into a library and I couldn't be happier. I sew, I sculpt, I am a life coach to many younger people in my life. I am of calm temperament, often opinionated but not afraid to jump off my ship for a better idea or plan.

    I think people are good.

It is fascinating to learn about everyone here. I am going to be 60 this year, married to my DH for 20 years now. We have 3 grown kids between us and 7 grands. Two spoiled rotten four-legged kids, Boxers, they are sisters, and will be 6 years old. Live in VA, spent a few years in southern MI. Retired now, worked for fed govt for 33 years. Enjoying retirement, addicted to GW. I have learned a lot from all of you and the Decorating and Organizing forums. Love to decorate, and I am an avid reader. Need another hobby so thinking about a Master Gardener class, even though I have a brown thumb. Have to check in every day to see what is going on.

DH and I have been married 55+years, have traveled the world with the USMC, then the State of California (where we both grew up, met and married.
Our 3 grown kids have given us 5 Grands that we have traveled extensively with in our motorhome all over the West.
I just had back surgery and hope to "be on the road again" just asap...although they say the recovery time is lenghty. We spent 2 months in Alaska and the Yukon last summer....wish I could do it again with my new back!

BTW...Love this thread and have re-read it more than once.

I have a Nanny too, and she's the most precious woman on the planet. To me anyway. My grampa (Papa) was a career Marine too.

My name is Georgene and I have been married to Tony for 36 years. We have 1 son 31 and a daughter 24. Our son lives in ND and is married and adopted her 3 children. Right now he is in the National Guards and is stationed over in Kosovo. When he is not in the guards he is a guard at the minimum security state prison in ND. Our daughter lives in Michigan and is taking computer courses in the medical field. She has 2 daughters a 2 year old and a nine months old. Her husband works at a marina on the Great Lake.
We live in SD in a town of 50 people. I always thought I would never want to live in a town this small but I love it here. Tony drives a road blader for the county and I am a cook in a restaurant 9 miles over in the next town. It is a small town family owned restaurant and I am always looking for new recipes to try there.
I belong to a homemakers club and a community club. We have lived here 11 years. We were both from ND. All of our siblings and my dad still live up there. I had 9 brothers and sisters and one of my sisters passed away when she was 40 from pancreatic cancer and my mom passed away almost 2 years ago from it too. My moms sister also passed away from it. Tony has 1 brother and 2 sisters. I was raised on a farm and went to a one room country school for 8 years and then graduated from high school and took some college. We belong to the catholic church which is very important to us.
I came to kitchen forum 9 years ago. Someone mentioned it on some other site and I came here to check it out and I read it every day. The pictures and the recipes are my favorites.
We have one cat. She is 15 years old. Just a plain long haired grey tabby. Well maybe she has us lol.
In my spare time I like to crossstitch and do some crafts. I love rummage sales and thrift stores. I love to read, mostly historical romances. When I finish one book I start another one right away. I think this comes from when I was a little girl and we didnt have hardyly any books and the only magazines we had were farming magazines so we never got to read much then.

I think I did this once before. Born and raised in PA and never lived a day out of this state. Married way too long with two kids, son and daughter and two grandkids. Son has a daughter, daughter has a son. All live near by except when GD is in college in Pittsburgh. Live in a 1840 clapboard farmhouse but in a town, not the country. Love to garden and have two koi ponds. Have five rescued cats and one rescued dog. He is my little boy. Love auctions and antique shows. In fact went to one tonight. I prefer stuff which would have been found in my house when it was built. But I do have bathrooms and a restored kitchen so that part is in the 21st century. I do sleep on a rope bed though.

I've held off posting about myself, because I'm not sure what to say. I hate talking about myself.

I'm 53, live in Ontario, Canada. Married and divorced, my sweetie and I have been living together for 7 years. Childless by choice. (Knew all my life I'm not the maternal type.)

We live in an apartment with 3 cats, who are spoiled and we love them to pieces; and several thousand worms (I do vermicomposting). My DH (I call him that on this forum just because SO looks awful! LOL) is a very easy-going guy, as evidenced by saying Yes, when I asked him if I could have worms in the apartment! (Long as he doesn't see them)

We both work, and he's part of a music project where he'll be able to make his living behind a drum-kit, which is what he'd love to do.

I love houseplants, cooking and my worms and the GW forums has helped me with all my hobbies. I found the KT when I asked a question about bread-making. I was amazed at the immediate responses and help, so I immediately joined.
I read the cooking forum when I think of it, but the KT is my favourite and I come here daily and help out when I can.

I have a beautiful Cockerpoo named Bella, she owns my heart. I also have two very sweet cats, Chloe and Mr. Kitty. I have a DBF of 20 years that lives in New Hampshire, maybe that is why it has lasted so long, he is two hours away. I spend most weekends in NH but live in the home that I grew up in and loving it. I have been visiting the KT since 1998.

    My name is Sally.
I live in Lancaster County Pa and - no - I am not Amish. LOL
I have 5 sisters and 29 nieces and nephews.
I do not have any children, but love my 3 cats as if they were...
I have lived in this area all my life and love it. I have been very fortunate in life to have a loving, stable family unit, with very little tragedy to speak of.
I am divorced, but we remain very friendly...
My SO is a Marine (not currently active) and very proud of it. ( a combat veteran is a whole different breed...)

My home is my cozy sanctuary to unwind. I love to tend to my herb garden and perennials.
I bought my first sewing machine last fall, so I am enjoying learning how to use it.
I love to tackle almost any project whether it's building a shed, making beef wellington or changing the oil in my truck.
I probably own more tools than a lot of men I know...
I am a redneck at heart, but clean up pretty good when I need to...

Thanks, Glenda...this just has to be done every ol' once in awhile with oldtimers like myself who pops in and out like a mole in the ground and the newcomers whom I haven't met in between times!

I am 63, married, two FANTASTIC sons, (so I got some GREAT grandkids and inlaws, too!)

Live in Ohio, collect and sell ACEO Art (Trading) Cards, really interested in photography, reading, home decorating (I need to be more interested in house-keeping...LOL!)

We have several farm cats that came on their own and one inside cat and a lab mix dog who is the star in the group.

We've got a 1950 Chevy we take to the classic car shows and we just love taking each day as it comes and doing alot of nothing!

I frequent thrift stores, flea markets and garage sales even though I should be having my own at this point!

    Carry on and who's next?
