Seysonn, if huge plants are a problem for you then you must be content with the production limitations of smaller plants. I'll admit that I have "Maxed-out" on the tomahook stringline reserve on most cherry & grape varieties translating to plants that have grown well over 20 feet over the season and I agree that a greenhouse is the way to achieve more than season extension since the framework also serves as plant support. I have grown tomatoes in the ground under high tunnels for more than 10 years now and I have made some changes early in the process that have made a large impact on success: Exhaust fans, circulation fans,a wood stove and lights. I could never understand why most people take multiple steps to improve their personal comfort yet draw an absolute line on where they cease to care for their plants. For the first and last months of the season the roll-up sides of my tunnels remain locked down and thermostatatically controlled exhaust fans keep inside temps in control. Circulation fans are a huge benefit in insuring uniform air temps, lowering fungal diseases and even in polination- they're cheap and pay for themselves many times over. As far as wood stoves go, it's just the cheapest heat source for most people when all factors are considered. Starting plants mid-season means that for that ground surface area you have ZERO production from the time of transplant until harvest begins, usually 8-10 weeks. For me that translates to $thousands. Just do the math.

My personal opinion is against extended warranties. My experience is that if there is a problem, it usually occurs within the basic warrentied period OR by the time a problem occurs, the item is due for replacement due to age. Keep in mind, that some extended warranties do cover labor as well as parts replacement, and you might want to consider the chances of having a small but labor-intensive repair occur after the usual warranty period... again, my experience has not found the odds favorable to the cost of the extended warranty. Also consider just how the items were designed... IMO, the more "new" electronics are used in the controls or operating systems, the more likely a glitch will occur that will be expensive to repair. You're at the mercy of the manufacturer in guessing whether the glitches will occur sooner (while under basic warranty) or later, and whether repairs are worthwhile. One way to decide is to add up the cost of the extensions, and cold-heartedly compare to the cost of replacement. A 2-year extended warranty for my last refrigerator cost one-fourth the price tag of a new fridge... which meant that if I had extended for 8 years, the cost would have been the same as buying a new fridge. IMO, not a good deal since most appliances either break down within the first couple years [and you know it's a bad one] OR last 10 to 20 years.

Bryant Extended Labor Warranty

Junkmailhold, It is correct what the dealer told you. Bryant and Carrier changed their extended labor warranties to be only 90 days after purchase. This was changed I believe in March. They did this because the 10 year part warranty has to be submitted with in 90 days also. I guess they decided to require extended labor to have the same time of 90 days to make it easier on the processing. I have no idea why they cut the time for submitting extended labor warranties down to 90 days but it is no way the contractor dealer/installers fault. Now for how it works for a dealer in my state, a dealer has 3 or 4 levels. But first a dealer must register with the state to even sell extended labor warranties on behalf of Bryant. This may be why a dealer does not mention an extended labor warranty because they are not registered to sell them. Every state is different so I don't know. For me, It starts with $75 labor rate and goes up to I believe $140 what ever labor rate the dealer has with bryant can effect the cost of the labor warranty. Most of us go with the minimum $75 labor rate to reduce the cost of the labor warranty. In my state we can not over charge for the policy and the policy is governed by the state of Florida and Bryant. 10yr labor warranty on a system in Fl is $525. Accessories are extra, like purifiers, UV lighting ect... Your installer should not take months or even days to return your call. That to me is very upsetting! On the positive side, Bryant is quality, and I haven't had too many issues with the equipment. Next if you happened to get a good bryant dealer who cares about their customers, Like with my company I always give my customer a price break with an extremely reduced labor for the life of the systems I install so maybe your installer will do the same.
