Your project reminded me of what happened to my wife and me with our young daughter when she was about 3 yr old. My mother had crocheted a baby blanket out of soft orlon. it was beautiful and had a particular 'feel'. We were not aware of how attached our daughter had become to the texture of this blanket. It wasn't so much the blanket itself - It was its texture and feel.

One winter holiday, we had traveled with our family to visit with my sister and my parents. After dinner, we stowed my family into station wagon and drove to my sister's house for the night. Her home was 30 miles away from my parents.

All went well until a couple of hours later, it was time for all of us to go to bed. My family had the basement. It was then we discovered that we had left the 'blankie' at grandmother's house. When we tried to put my daughter down for the night, she began to fuss - wanted her blankie. Soon, the fussing turned to tears. We tried to convince her that the blanket was not lost and that we would get it back the next day. That helped a bit, but did not stop the fussing and tears. I had considered driving back to my folks to retrieve the blanket, but this had problems. My folks were farm folks and would have been asleep for 2 to 3 hours by the time I could have arrived at their place. My arrival at that hour would have frightened Mom - She would have thought I come to report a family disaster.

There was 10 miles of gravel road included in the trip.

So, what did we do? My wife was knitting afghan squares and as luck would have it, she had some of her knitting supplies with her. We had our daughter feel of a partially knitted square to see if it would do for one night. She grudgely accepted the token.

I remember that scene well although it happened many years ago: My wife furiousily knitting an oversized afghan square so that my daughter could settle down without awaking our hosts. It worked. 20 minutes later, the square, a bit unven, was done and my daughter fell asleep.

All that happened because my daughter's prize blankie was CROCHETED and had a particular feel that was not duplicated by any material. LOL.

You surely were bitten by a big bug! Everything is so pretty.
When I was a girl, about 11, I would crochet shawls for people in my housing area. I would work late into the night to get each order done quickly. They were $5 dollars each, I was making some good money. When I look back I laugh because I lived in Hawaii at the time,,,no one really needed a shawl, they were just being nice to buy one from this little kid.
Any way, I love your projects. Have you ever done broomstick lace before? It's like crochet only it uses a stick to put the string on. It's easy and fun.

How adorable. The little booties look exactly like some that I crocheted for my baby before she was born. That was back in the day when you didn't know the sex of the child you were carrying and I crochet that set in blue...so she didn't wear it much.

I knit, but never learned to crochet. Some things look better crocheted, though, like afghans. Lovely work.

I love to crochet as well. I went crazy for about a year and then had to give it a rest because my arm started to hurt. But your pictures make me want to pick up the hook and start again!!

I'm into quilting now...oh my do I love fabric!

How adorable! You did an excellent job! A friend of ours crocheted one in a white cotton-type of stuff with ribbon running through it and little roses on it. She made an underslip to go with it. It was beautiful. I wish I knew how to put pictures on the computer and I'd show it to you. I know you could do that kind, too!

I made that same set for my granddaughter before she was born.Made it in pink,white and purple. My granddaughter was 18 in October.*sigh*

Those are so pretty, thanks for posting the pictures. I love to crochet and can knit a little. Couple years ago I made umpteen caps, scarves and ponchos for all the grandkids. I had tons of yarn to use up and have started on afghans now.
