Kenmore elite Oasis HE comments

I have the Kenmore elite Oasis washer and dryer. I haven't had any computer error messages since I bought it last November 2006.

What length extended warranty do you all recommend? The prices range from $231 (1 yr) through $550 (3 yr) to $889 (!!5yr!!)

I didn't buy it initially because it seemed so expensive but I have already called a few times on 'noise' issues. Right now, it sounds like something is loose in the washer, with a loud rattling noise during the spin cycle.

The washer does get the clothes clean but I take some time determining how to load it. I usually wash towels together, and try to keep other loads 'mixed' (eg not all shirts or long pants) Still, the washer does shred an occasional piece of clothing, especially towel seams.

I am not totally pleased with this pair but it's in my house and I would hope to use it a few more years.

Those prices for warranty are very, very expensive. I got an additional 4 years on my FL for $89.

We got the glass top Oasis and matching dryer in April of 2006(we paid 550 for five years on both). They were hauled out yesterday as we had many service calls on each unit. The noise may be rust falling off the underside of the top(not the lid) and getting into the spring suspension parts. We had three tops and they all rusted as there is no paint on the underside. We had lots of problems with the dryer also. Sears upgraded us to the HE5t washer and dryer at no cost. So far we are liking the front loader and dryer- the dryer is much quieter than the old one and it looks like the front loader will use alot less water. I am amazed that you have not had any F error codes on your dryer(oasis)...........they tried all the fixes and none worked...........the computer boards are expensive on the Oasis dryer...........glad we had the protection agreement..........if ya buy both they should give you a discount.........it is expensive buying over the phone,,,,,,,,,,,,,try sears.com and see what they would charge.............

I don't think it is misuse to put a pair of sweatpants in a load of laundry and expect it to come out un-destroyed. As I said, I am 41 years old. I have had agitator washers my entire life. I do virtually all of the laundry for our family of five. I have thrown my bras and everyone's underwear into the washer since I have been old enough to do laundry, and never have had a problem before. Our last washer was a typical agitator washer--a Kenmore super capacity that lasted 17 years of my marriage, and it never destroyed anything. Before that, plenty of other random machines--including the old Speed Queen that my mom had. She also never put anything in a delicate laundry bag. She is over 70. I can live with an accident of one bra getting eaten by the new machine. But I have had this machine for 2 weeks and it has destroyed 3 bras, runined some almost new Addidas track pants (pulled the string almost out, shredded a leg as the string wrapped around the agitator fins), faded some black clothing that had been unfaded for the past year (washed in my old machine), and almost ruined a set of beautiful high thread count sheets by excessive twisting and wrapping around the agitator. Since I have never had a problem with agitator washers before, I thought this machine would be similar. So far the results have been far from similar. When I brought it up to the sales person at Sears yesterday, he said that there was another woman in yesterday with the EXACT same problem, and he advised her to wash all of her clothes on the delicate cycle. I am not sure if that is a reasonable solution to this problem---because as I said I spent more money on this washer in hopes it would make laundry easier and more efficient to me. Call me crazy, but this does not seem very efficient at all.

Hi John I have the MVWB750WQ and love it. I was tempted to buy a front loader but after reading complaints about mold, etc plus I am not a young chicken so bending over to do laundry was not my cup of tea and spending a couple of hundred dollars for a pedestal was a no no. Anyways I bought mine from Home Depot at a great price and 4 year warranty in November 2009. Washing was a learning experience. I know now to put the clothes around the impeller in small piles and I use HE powder detergent. Tried the liquid detergent but did not like the residue it left in my tub. Regarding the soak cycle yes I do have it along with extra rinse, etc. Just never needed to use it. Wish you luck on your decision.

This machine goes off balance more than any machine we ever owned(married 47 years). It is a rust bucket also and the electrical boards do not last. Look around this site and see my posts and dMary's posts and pics. We would not recommend this set to anyone(dryer also has problems). Sears took em back and upgraded us to the HE5t front load washer and dryer...........9 months now and no problems.............

Not sure what the F2 code means. But I know that lots of people have had problems with error codes. Call the main 1-800 number for Sears repairs and they should be able to tell you what the code means. If you are looking at an expensive repair due to failure of computer parts on an Oasis, you should know that you are not alone. The appliance manager at my local Sears informed me that Sears corporate is aware that there are many problems with the Kenmore Elite Oasis washers and dryers-- especially frequent are problems with the electronics. Even if you did not buy the extended warranty, Sears will probably allow you to return the Oasis for credit towards another model at their store. You need to talk to the appliance manager or the store manager at your local Sears. If they are not helpful, call the corporate Customer Service at 1-800-927-7836. (Have your receipt handy, they will need dates, dollars, model#) Repairs to the Oasis computer and electronics are very expensive. Parts and labor for repair of electronics on my 1.5 year-old Oasis HE washer were quoted at more than $600! Although the warranty states that no replacement will be made unless there have been several repairs to the same component within one 12-month period, my experience has been that Sears will allow you to return a bad appliance for credit towards your purchase of same or other Sears appliance. Good Luck! P.S. On your next Kenmore machine, get the three or five year warranty! Just consider this expense as part of the price. Today's appliances are over-loaded with failure-prone electronics. A single repair more than pays for the warranty.

Yeah premier, I agree.

mutta- yes no error codes so far. The service guy who came out for the noise problem recommended the 3 year contract. That was their quote for both appliances, seemed high to me. I'll look again on sears.com, I didn't see any prices on the site previously, just a note to call Sears by phone.

You did great as it took me a year to get them to change my Oasis washer to the HE2t..But that is ok with me as never again will I buy any of their appliances..Got the Samsung VRT washer and dryer from Lowes and their extended warranty that is so much cheaper..No problems so far and no vibration and I live in a mobile home...

Check you drain hose when you hear the rattling. My Cabrio had a rattling noise and it was just the drain hose rattling against the back of the cabinet.

hi! ive owned this pair fron june 22nd 2006...and nothing but problems!!They have already changed the motors on the dryer ,2 computers and do on..its been a disaster with dealing with sears!as for my washer i noticed rust stains on the lid,and ive also noticed that my clothes are not clean anymore...ive been fighting with sears so i could give them back!I dont want these machines anymore!!!I dont know but im having a hard time with sears canada....:(

I brought home an elite oasis dyrer friday and it has not worked yet. Is anyone familiar with the code F22? The repair man isn't coming for five days yet and I don't want to wait to find it was something I could have addressed. Has anyone out there had good fortune with this brand? We have purchased Kenmore for years without issue.

Looked at the error codes which I copied when tech came-they are inside the top consule--------------No F22 on the list and in your manual it simply states to call for service------------if you can take it back do so and avoid alot of problems...........................in the future....as it will happen...........sorry but that is our experience with the Oasis line................

I guess I am in for some trouble with this pair...

My dryer noise was fixed, it was a loose piece inside the left panel that the repair guy fixed. I've had no other trouble with the dryer.

This new noise was in the washer during spin, and sounded really loud and rattling. I hope I didn't lose my glasses in there, as they are currently missing. Repairman is coming today to look at it.

STAY AWAY FROM THESE MACHINES...im fighting sears so i could return the set nothing but problems and error codes!my lawyer will make a nice letter to sears ..hopefully somebody from there can understand this way!after hundreds of phones calls,one customer service phone to another and nobody knows how to deal with the situation...will see what happens when they receive a legal lawyer letter...will they respond now?

Yes, I wish I heard that earlier, lol. I was staying away from everything else when I bought this set. My machines are currently 'fine' but I am going to purchase the X warranty based on what I have read here and heard from the repair people.

hi just wondering if a rusting lid on the washer...(kenmore elite oasis he )is normal after 1 year of use...and if its covered from the extended warranty...i called sears today and said that the lid costs too much and its cosmetic so i would have to pay...(the rusting is from the inside)..any help would be nice!i bought the extended warranty for another 150.00)...
