crafty types: top down bottom up mini blinds instructions?
Comments (2)My bathroom window is in the shower! It is a full sized window. I hung a white plastic opaque shower curtain, doubled with the fold facing the shower head, over it. I can move the curtain aside because the spring rod is the full length of the tub. We do also have film on the bottom half of the window, and a big shrub outside. I would like some of those bottom top blinds too in various places in my house, but it never occurred to me to try to retrofit regular blinds. To buy bottom-tops new is quite expensive. If any one knows how to do it, I'd love to hear it. BTW, I have friends who have them, and its kindof a disappointment to realize that the strings that raise and lower the blinds cover the window all the time, so you don't really get an unobstructed view. Excuse my going on and on, but you have got me thinking about mounting a shade onthe bottom and pulling it upwards which wouldnt work well in a shower however. But that would just involve one string up the middle of the window where we have a muntin anyway. Good luck. Kathy...See MoreMatching Fabric For Roman Shade & Vertical Blinds?
Comments (2)Thanks crystalt grow. I figured I'd have to bite the expensive bullet and go to a fabric/decorating store near me who specializes in custom draperies and furniture fabric design. One question though regarding the "usefulness" of the link you provided: In what capacity would bra extenders be used in the fabrication of either my verticals or the roman shades? Do they somehow hold up the shades better? Or keep the verticals from sliding off their straps? :) Linda...See MoreHelp with shades or blinds
Comments (9)i would probably do the same in each room, but wouldn't worry about the garage... i would put either roman shades or pleated shades in the windows- depends on the look you want- roman shades are more decorative, pleated shades can disappear into almost nothing. i personally love top down shades in bathrooms, but like bottom up only in all other rooms--- i would probably feel differently if i lived in an urban setting......See MoreHelp with Buying Blinds and Shades
Comments (10)As far as wovens, I posted the Overstock link the other day to these bamboo blinds. I first bought these in 2007 when we built a sunroom and I needed about 12....budget busting at the stores I visited! I've bought over 70...for 3 different homes. :) Think I like them? They are not a privacy blind (although they obscure) but there are white liners avail; I used them once on sev windows. I love them because they protect from the sun but allow you to still see outside a bit...not in detail but a general landscape type of view. Come in 3 diff lengths and increments are by the inch; that's one reason I love them...almost like custom with the sizing. They operate very well...even the extremely wide ones. There are also other similar shades; all are very highly rated. Happy to take a pix of mine if you'd like to see IRL. https://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Arlo-Blinds-Tuscan-Bamboo-Roman-Shade-with-54-Inch-Height/3705856/product.html?refccid=IUQ3N2MD7ULZ5MKDKMFW3KDNNE&searchidx=0&kwds=&rfmt=...See More- 16 years ago
