Glenda, I wear my pearls often. DH bought them while he was stationed in Korea in the 1960's. Had them restrung a few years back. I love pearls, opal is my birthstone and have opal necklace and earrings that was bought in the 1950's. Only thing with the earrings are ones with the screw backs, guess I could have them changed to pierced. How in the world we wore those earrings back in the 50's, I have no idea. Remember coming in from church, and could hardly wait to get the earrings off.

I love my pearls and wear them frequently. I have one long necklace that can be unscrewed into two shorter ones that can be worn at the same time. I have several pendants with clip on bails that can be worn with the pearls too which changes the look. I have a pair of stud earrings and a pair of teardrop pearl earrings. They're classic.

Remember the fifties? Black cocktail dress and pearls! Classie!

dh gave me a lovely multi-strand last year and it's been sitting in a case since then...i just don't go anyplace i can wear them...

I was just thinking about this. I'm noticing more women wearing pearl necklaces lately, including young ladies, in the daytime.

It may be time for me to get mine out and wear them again.

They say you have to let them BREATHE! So wear them often.

I have not worn pearls particularly since I had a set of "pearl" Pop It beads. Pearls just don't look that good on me, so I have not had any real ones.

I have 3 pearl necklaces. One I bought myself. A friend bought me another strand, and another friend gave me a strand of chocolate pearls w/stud earrings for my birthday. I love them..just don't wear them often. I have one necklace (dragonfly) that I never take off.

I have a beautiful jade necklace that I bought in China.
Have it out to wear on upcoming cruise.
Travel agent recently admired it, so I know it is GOOD!

Hi Glenda. I wear pearls every chance I get, which isn't all that often anymore! I love them.

My favorite story is when I was working in an office and my boss was standing by my desk and I was wearing my long pearls (I used to love to wear a plain tee shirt with a jacket over and the pearls) - well I closed my desk drawer (with the pearls caught in the drawer) and the string of pearls broke. I jumped but he jumped faster! He dove under my desk before I could say a word and he came up with the one pearl that fell to the floor and rolled. The string was nicely tied, so they didn't all just fall off all over the place. But I will NEVER forget his quick reaction - it was funny (but great!)

I love pearls and I do wear them quite often. I have 2 strands of good pearls, mom brought them home from Japan when they were stationed there. I also have many strands of good fakes that I love to wear with my good ones...sometimes I have 4 or 5 sets together mixed with rhinestones.....it is fun.

Anyone have crystals? I have several sets of crystals from my great aunt, grandma and mom......I have never worn them.

I guess I don't have any real pearls. I do wear a lot of different necklaces from time to time.

I just got my 19 year old DD a strand for Christmas and she loves them. Her first pearls.

I am probably the only human around but I prefer junk jewelry....whatever catches my eye or is "in". Trendy stuff that doesn't cost an arm and a leg because I am the first one to lose anything. I love shopping for earrings, and wear them often but other than that, I'm not much of a jewelry person.

I have a double strand of opera length pearls that are all one size that were my mom's. I wear them every chance I get. Since they're a dressier style I don't wear them as often as I'd like. I was thinking of having them re-strung and made into a shorter single strand and a bracelet. Has anyone ever done that?

Ruthie, it's "fashion" jewelery, not junk jewelery. LOL! And I'm sure you look great in it. You can do a lot with this type of jewelery--add larger pieces, color, etc.--that you cannot do with fine jewelery (because of the cost). And when you're tired of it, it can go to the thrift shop or wherever.

Glenda asked- do you remember the black cocktail dresses from the 1950's. I do,but I never wore them with pearls much. Since I was tall (have shrunk) I liked really large, chunky jewelery and sometimes glitzy rhinestones.I still have a Eisenberg necklace and two pair of earrings but I never wear them anymore.
Ah, the good old days when I liked to wear beautiful dresses. Now it's jeans and a tee.

Pearls are never 'out' -- but since *I* am almost never out either, mine don't see a lot of wear! LOL

I bought my mother a cultured pearl necklace with my first paychecks. They are not very good but she loved them.

DH gave me wedding pearls -- opera length, small size, not high quality. Seldom wore them. Should sell them.

I bought a nice 16" string of cultured 7.5 creamy white pearls when a longtime local jeweler was closing shop. Bought a pair of matching studs to go with them while we were staying on St. Thomas one year. Keepers.

mrsmarv. You can have your opera length pearls made into 2 necklaces (or a necklace and a bracelet) and still wear it as one necklace if you want. One of my necklaces is about 36" long- it is made up of 2 separate necklaces, one is 18 1/2" and the other is 17". I can wear them separately as individual necklaces, wear them at the same time and they look like a double strand or screw them back together and wear one long necklace.

The necklaces don't have a clasp but instead have a screw that's invisible when the pearls are screwed together.

My pearls sat in the jewelry box for years, until last year. Now I wear them all the time. Day night whenever... They are in fashion right now! Not that it matters much to me what others wear.

I have my grandmothers ,my mothers, and my baby pearls.
Both of my daughters wore them to get married in.
They will stay in the family, hopefully for their girls weddings.

mcmann, my jeweler showed me how to do that. By putting the two stands together to make one long one or a double strand. Thought that was sooooo neat!

Yes I wear them, often. I have a short, choker length strand that I inherited from my mother. I wear them to work, and on days that were special to Mom, such as her birthday, or days that I need to feel close to her, like when my grandmother died a few years ago.

IMHO pearls never go out of style, they just aren't trendy at the moment. But, then again, I'm not a very trendy person, LOL.

I have 2 strands and I do wear them. I gave my mother's pearls to my oldest grand daughter and she was so touched. It really felt good!
