We just saw Clint Eastwood's movie, Grand Torino.

I don't think I have ever seen such a powerful movie.

It's exceptional, awesome.

A must see.

Thanks for the recommendation Monica. Tomorrow is our date night and we were thinking a movie would be a good thing.

1976 Ford Pinto, didn't blow up on me, but I was never rear-ended 1976 Honda CVCC--my friends called this a beer can. Because it looked like one to them. Could reach over and roll down the window on the passenger side while driving, without leaning over. Small! 1988 Pontiac LeMans-the car they brought back from the 60s only uglier and less durable. The first car I ever ever bought. 1990 Mitsubishi Eclipse-At this time, Mitsubishi, Dodge, and Eagle (remember them?!) were in collusion, I mean had agreements, in place and Eagle made the Talon. Daddy liked my Eclipse so much he bought a Talon. 1990 Mazda Miata--you know how I feel about that one!!!! 2011-1990=21 years old. Still running strong. After bankruptcy, foreclosure, and divorce... AND it got flooded, there is no A/C (I don't care), no heater (I don't care), the driver's window doesn't crank up or down, I can pull it instead, and the radio just went out. I might fix that. I did just get a brand new convertible top and it'll likely work another three or so years. My parents owned, during my lifetime, and I rode in: '67 Jaguar XKE (CHECK THIS CAR OUT!!!!) Late 70s Grand Torino Ford, Pinto (the same one) A really huge and old Oldsmobile that I learned to drive on. Ugh. Cars my boyfriends/husbands have owned, and I drove/owned: 196? VW Bug (two of them) 198? Honda CRX (two of them) 1986 1/2 yes, a half year??? Toyota Celica, Supra (two of them) Oldsmobile Cutlass Nissan pickup Mazda 626 Mazda Protege Isuzu Rodeo The weird thing is, the two bugs, two Hondas, and the two Supras are the same two guys. Both guys onwed all those cars in succession. Where they deviate? After I broke up with boyfriend of eight years, he bought a Nissan Pathfinder. The one I married and stayed married to for 11 years, owned an ordinary Nissan pickup. Weird!!!!!

Recently bought a Virtu Winterfell 36" vanity (without countertop)from Home Depot because the ability to return to local store with no charges. Went that route because I could not find a single example of this brand in a city of 1M+. Probably 5% higher than other lowest internet alternative without that generous return option. I'm a furniture quality snob who occasionally makes his own furniture and built ins. I'm quite particular. Time didn't allow me the "build it myself" option this time. In short the packaging and build quality was very good and quite acceptable. It is a bathroom vanity by the way and isn't going to get worked as hard as a kitchen. But regardless, the piece is solid with sturdy joinery. I'm not going to say it's as smooth as a ronbow but IMHO the 2x-3x of a ronbow makes no sense unless you're hemorrhaging money. I didn't like the pulls and we plan to replace and the false drawer front to actual drawer connection makes that a little difficult to change (but not impossible). This pertains to a CON for the piece. The knobs attach by a wood screw from the back being screwed into the knob rather than a threaded bolt. That seems like a cheap connection that's likely to fail in the long run. On the drawers you can't access that knob screw head because the head is concealed by the drawer body. You have to take off the false drawer front (a few screws from the backside) to get access to that screw head. Stupid design. They should have it so that someone could easily screw out a normal bolt of a regular knob and replace to one our liking. In reality, I wish they would ship the piece with zero knobs and then I could put whatever type of handle (for instance a bar handle with two holes) although I understand that would drive away people who can't figure out how to put a handle on a drawer front (sad commentary on general public). The espresso finish is very nice, deep, rich, and consistent. The hinges are only a 110 degree type but that's probably OK for the intended use. The undermount soft close drawer slides see very nice...not Blum...but a decent knockoff and smooth running.

We owned 2 Saturns until my 11 year old konked out last May. To repair would have cost a fortune and even though we had been what I would term 'valued' customers, the dealership made no real attempt to keep our business, even though they knew I was prepared to purchase another new car from them initially. So I simply walked across the road - literally - and bought myself a little Toyota Yaris. The Saturns were good. Notice the word 'were'. They were good in the days of the polymer panels. Great for a Canadian living on the east coast who has to travel on salt covered roads in the winter. Mine, even after 11 years was in great shape except for that thing under the hood known as an engine... But I must add that as a courier, I did put well over 170,000 miles on the car. DH has decided he'll be going to a Toyota as well when his Saturn gives out. He's hitting 185,000 Miles at this time. As I said, in our case it wasn't really the car but the dealership. There's a lot more of them (dealerships) and those who think that buying a car from them once means you'll repeat in the future had better think again. On the street where I bought my first Saturn in 1996/97 there used to be only three dealerships. Now there are 10.

Hmm, I thought the stairs looks dated before ... maybe 80s. But then I see the transoms, which is very au courant as they are done. Is it new construction? Anyway, it looks amazing. What a great eye you have. As for smudges and scuffs, have them take their shoes off at the door!

DH is a big Clint Eastwood fan, I'm sure we will at some point. He's seen every other movie of his (many times!)

Denny called me today to make a "date" with me tomorrow for the movies...and out to eat.

I love it when he does that...

We are going to see Grand Torino. I'm sure he'll like it...I hope I do...

As long as I have some theater popcorn I'll be happy....LOL

I saw it last weekend and it was awesome.

A warning though - very strong language and every racial slur in the book. It does make it a very powerful movie.

Clint Eastwood at his best!

DH and I are going to see it tomorrow afternoon. First-run movies seldom come to our little local theater (actually 10 miles away), so it's a treat to get this one here.

I loved it, too. However (a minor point), it's "Gran Torino", named after the lead characters prized possession, a 1972 Ford Gran Torino and what a sweet car it is! Even had factory original mag wheels! Be still my heart.

It's actually a very pro-Asian movie. As to the racial slurs, he's of polish descent, so he gets as well as gives.

It reminded me a lot of "Death Wish" from the 1970s (from Charles Bronson).

We also saw it ... twice. I have enjoyed almost every Clint Eastwood movie out there & this was no exception. It didn't hurt that we owned a 1972 Gran Torino Sport with mag wheels, fog lights & the racing stripe down the side. It was Anaconda Gold with white interior. Had that car for 10 yrs. Hubs & I both loved that car & have looked for one a couple times, more to reminisce (sorry, spelling) than anything.
The racial slurs were huge but play a large part in the movie. Go see it, you won't regret it.

I've heard a couple friends say they thought it was great. And this was from people who don't recommend movies often. I don't like seeing movies in a theater so I'll see about renting it or something I suppose. Or maybe I'll try a theater again. Just not sure if I can find one with comfortable enough seats and enough legroom.

I love Clint Eastwood and have seen every movie he's ever been in....except for this one!!! We plan on seeing Gran Torino Saturday night or Sunday afternoon, if I have any steam left over after doing this Hillbilly night on Friday and hosting my DGS's 1st birthday party on Saturday afternoon. Say a little prayer for warmer weather and non-achy jonts...lol!
