Did you try having windows 7 find a compatible driver, that is often successful.
Otherwise contact HP support, they have a great free chat support, I have used it with excellent results. Just go to HP site put your product in the search box and it will take you to that page and there they will have a link to chat support.

Seems like it is not, according to Windows site, this HP device is not compatible with either 32 or 64 bit Windows.

Plug the scanner in a see if it works....Most of them work on a twain program and their is a twain program in the windows 7 so it may run as a plug & play device. If not, windows 7 will identify it as new hardware and automatically go online and look for a driver.

ivamae, I give you a lot of credit for sticking to this. These concepts are tough work. I am waiting for you to write back and say "I did it." I am in the same league as you are so we're on the same team.

Microsoft says not compatible.

What I decided to do was go ahead and buy a $35 Epson 3in1 rather than play around getting my old scanner to work with Win7. I make use of the scanner and copier more than the printer. Could have gotten a 4in1 but don't need another fax.

If you do decide to get a new one, I'd highly recommend you stay away from HP. They're not what they once were.

If you want to go ahead and try, you could try compatibility mode but I have never been very successful using it though you may have better luck. Or, if you still have the old unit, leave it hooked up there and use that one for scanning.

I haven't tried this yet, but when I found this, it has encouraged me to try a switch from Windows-XP to Windows-7.

According to this site, you can run a virtual XP mode in Windows-7. Devices using drivers for XP should work in this mode. Expect the reponse to be a bit slower than running in native mode.

Regarding the mention of Windows XP Mode and Windows Virtual PC (available here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/default.aspx), Windows XP Mode works in two ways -- both as a virtual operating system and as a way to open programs within Windows 7. In some cases, you can install hardware devices and use the drivers designed for Windows XP within Windows 7 via Windows XP Mode and Windows Virtual PC. This will not work in every scenario with hardware compatibility concerns however it will work in some.

Well, I guess I am going to have to buy a new scanner. I appreciate everyones help greatly and my son tried all the ideas. It won't work on the XP drivers. He tried. It comes on but says " non responding"
