Whats your discharge air temperature?

What is your nozzel size in the furnace ? 45 deg rize is
pretty low. How long does the furnace run before it shuts
down ? What stat are you using ? Where are you taking the
temp readings ? What is the return temp ? If it is 60 degs.
you should get 105 deg. discharge temp. If your return temp is 75 degs. your discharge should be 120 degs. Still a little low. My return air in my garage oil furnace when starting is - 20F. My discharge air is 180F. If i do my math right that is 200 deg temp rize. (Mind you, i'm an oil burner mechanic. Don't even try this at home.) If your set up for 56K that is not a very big furnace. Is that input or output ? You have to supply a little more info. Is the thermometer you are using accurate ? Are you using number 2 oil ? That is the same a summer diesle, no heat. If your in the U.S. they rip you off for heating oil. they sell you #2 oil for the price of #1 oil. Number 2 oil in canada has not been sold since 1960. It's also possible that your furnace has not been set up properly. you should almost get first deg. burns form the closest discharge vent of your furnace on your hands if held there long enough. Even if your blower is set too fast it will lower
your discharge temp. If it is under warrenty call them back
and keep calling them until it, by your standards, is right. Good luck. There is nothing wrong with oil. It's good safe heat. Does it's job perfectly when looked after
and maintained but it is NOT a D.I.Y. project.

Sorry for the lack of information. Being an electronics tech I know the more info the easier the diagnosis. The discharge air temp as measured about 15" up the plenum is 115 deg F. Return air is 70Deg measured 15" before pleated air filter.The furnace is a ComfortmakerNOMF105D12. The nozzzle is a Delvan .60-70B. Pump pressure is 120PSI. Chimney flue temp is 545 deg F before damper. Shutter/band set to 0/7. Low firing rate baffle installed. This is the setup the MFG states supplies a heating capacity of 74K output. The fan is set for med-hi. Over fire draft is +0.01" the flue draft is -0.03". I always check my setting against calibrated equipment. The temperature meters were fluke and waveteks.The fuel oil is #2. The smoke when started is # 3 and after 10-15 minutes #1. The people they send are mostly kids that when asked a technical question show you a printout from there meters. But ask them the difference of over fire draft and flue draft measurment can't tell you the difference. I just want to try to get the best bang for the buck. Thanks for your time :)

Sounds like you have most things on the ball. your stack
temp is way too high. all your heat is going up the chimney. I like to see it at about 450 max just
before the damper. your figures are close. I'd like to see
.02 on the fire. are you sure you have the right nozzel ?
What does it say on the burner ? you have an over fire condition. That furnace hasn't been made for years. It was
made in canada with a U.S. supplier and designed for #1 oil.
Without seeing it i'd say your nozzel is too big. the way i
read it you have a 60 deg. nozzel with .70 gals per hour with a solid cone. That is the way you have it written.
That nozzel size should give you about 100,000 B.T.U. bonnet temp. Point 85 is approx. 120.000 B.T.U. input. There is something not set up properly. even your smoke rate tells me you are too rich or have a slow combusting
oil. #2 will work well if set up properly and stored warm
inside a building or basement. bottom line. No way in hell
should your stack temp. be that high. Get it fixed.

Thought i'd chim in again. Looks like i got here before someone calls me a lier. YES ComfortMaker has not been around for years, sorry guys. They are being remade by
Heil-Quaker group in Toronto, Canada. The original ComfortMaker is gone. The inside of this furnace could be anything form Carrier,FurnaceMan,Lennox,Trane, or who knows
what. Your burner is a Beckett, there you go. I was just curious and called them. That furnace was designed for #1 heating oil and they say it's over fired. Winter operation.
Outside temp. 20 degs. Chimney temp. 400 deg.F Draft .136
That just confirms from the two of us you have a problem.
your furnace is not set up properly. there is something
wrong. With your stack temp and your start up smoke even they say your over fired. I'm done. Get it fixed.

To make sure I get the right person in to fix this problem how would you go about finding that person/company?? Also do you have the contact number at Heil_Quaker Co?? Thanks for chim in. BTW if you every need a good sonar tech drop me a line.

I guess i'm not done. If that furnace is new it should still be under warranty and you have to contact your
authorized dealer for their warranty service personel. They
should come out for install setup. If not have them fax over the setup specs. for that furnace but make damn sure
you will be allowed to touch it and not void the warranty.
Have them give you an authorization number. I have info here but it is for genaric setup of any furnace. Each
furnace has it's own mind and ideals. The first thing i'd
check is do you have the right nozzel ? You have written,
60 deg. at .70 gals. per hour with a solid cone. That is the " B " after 70. are you sure that isn't supposed to be an " A " hollow cone ? Solid cone is pretty rare and sprays a lot of fuel. I've never seen one in a residential application. A simple thing as your chimney too big and too high will suck the fire right out of the box if the damper is not set right and give you smoke untill the pipe warms enough to draft. Even if your chimney is not at code hight the roof peak could act as a up draft ramp and suck the fire up the flue. Usually it will cause a down draft. Minimum hight is 3 feet, 10 feet back from any part of the roof peak or minimum 2 feet on a flat roof. Your pump pressure is a little high. At 120 your fuel could " fog " instead of atomize. " fogged fuel " burns incredibly fast and hot. There is no actual liquid in the spray to slow down the firing rate. This is just something to look at. Your Furnace probably will never be fixed over the net. Someone has to see it. If your paying i'll make the service call :) lol.
