Radio isn't necessarily the only source for music. I guess in a way, I could live without either radio or TV if I have the internet. I like having the radio in the vehicle, and the TV at home. So in a way, I do without one or the other depending on where I am.

We can definitely do without TV but love to listen to music on the radio since we have XM in the house and both vehicles.

While we were gone this past month we didn't turn the TV on in the RV once. There is so much garbage on TV anymore it is just worthless IMHO.

I could live without radio, can play cds in the car. But I would really miss tv, it is something I really enjoy when relaxing. And from a news standpoint I like the visual of the storyline.

Can do without both. We canceled cable approx. 8 months ago and signed up with netflix instead. We don't miss TV one bit, the few shows we liked to watch, we can watch online. There just wasn't anything worth watching most of the time.

I haven't listened to the radio for years and years, so I'll say that.

I probably should have said music or tv..because personally alot of radio now days is as bad as alot of the really bad tv shows

I enjoy the local radio station in the mornings because of the announcers. They are a close knit group with a lot of camaraderie and good natured joking. A good variety of topics during the day. The programs are locally based as for sports, etc. and games are carried in the evenings. I also like their local weather reports.

As for TV, I am watching less and less all the time. If charges continue to increase, and I'm sure they will, I may very well cancel it. I am astounded at some of what I see being shown on TV now, and even more astounded that large numbers of people are watching it.

So it may be that before long I will have just radio and my computer.

Definitely can do without TV, but I need my radio. I like to listen to Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me and From the Top on Public Radio, and the Fresh Air segments and Science Friday also. I prefer classical music, so when the local public radio station doesn't have it, I turn off the radio and listen to CDs. Television is for weather reports only.

I so enjoy the music channels on my U Verse tv.

The only time I listen to it is in my car and listen to if I am out in the morning the talk shows and listen to the news. Otherwise, no.

I will take tv anyday although its worse and worse what is on or should say isn't on.

I listen to talk radio mostly when I'm in the truck but I wouldn't really miss it.

I've been living without TV in the country house since the digital switch. Don't miss it much. Occaionally listen to the radio--won't miss it when that goes all pay, too. But don't take away my internet!!!

I haven't turned the TV on in months, and only seldom. I'm confined to rabbit ears for this little old portable, unless I'm willing to spring for satellite, which I haven't for five years (and took out cable in the city when house-sharer left about fifteen years ago).

I listen pretty well wall-to-wall to our non-commercial national radio, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). Radio One has a lot of interesting programs, news and analysis, science, public affairs, arts, etc. Radio Two is mostly various kinds of music and Radio Three a more contemporary kind of programming.

Try it at Sirius 137 ... or www.cbc.ca, e.g. "www.cbc.ca/quirks"; for science, " .../ideas" for interesting ideas, " .../tapestry for spiritual concerns, " .../aih" for "As it Happens", a phone-out program that interviews various folks involved with current issues in the news, worldwide, weekday evenings.

You can listen to radio while you do other things: can't do that with TV.

And with radio - you draw your own pictures, if you're so inclined.

Regarding much of TV - so little for the mind. And a mind is too precious a thing to allow to go to waste.

I don't own a radio or a TV so I'll say "Both".

Carol, do you still have a local newspaper and is it doing well? Here our paper is suffering horribly, it's not even half the size it used to be and is no longer locally owned. I used to advertise in it weekly...I think I had 2 or 3 ads in it this year and they were to support local events or programs.

I probably only turn the one radio on in the house a couple times a year. Regular television doesn't offer much. I like the PBS channels, but if there are two or three of them you can get, everyone is playing the same show most of the time. Unless I could have satellite, then I would not miss radio or television. I don't listen to music either, as I like my peace and quiet. We don't take a newspaper.

don't listen to radio. I have it on my computer,
music stations on my TV and most of all my I-Pod. Also
have Satellite radio on my computer available.

BUT -- if I had to get my music it from a radio I would never give it up for TV. Cannot survive without music. :)

I can live without both of them. I'm alone most of the day and most of the time I do not have either on. I love peace and quiet.

Jazz is a favorite of mine, too. I enjoyed public radio until my son set up his ham radio towers, knocking out my radio reception in the process. Like many of the other posters, I get my radio fix on the Internet. I do some TV watching on the Internet, too. But mostly, like Tammy, I love my peace and quiet.

Plantmasterm, it's probably just as well that you're still working. It would drive me nuts to have to listen to the TV all day. Still, you deserve some sort of sainthood. And your DH is at risk for depression if he doesn't find himself some meaningful activity. Volunteer work, maybe?

I've been listening to talk and music on radios since I was 18 months old...carry a radio around with me at all times, so I guess the TV would go.

Thats a hard choice. I listen to local and national talk radio alot during the day and in the evening I turn on the TV for awhile so since I have to choose guess I'd give up the radio. Actually, can get most of the radio information on the computer but radio is a habit for me during the day,

Can't live without music...we have some sort of music going in the house at all times.

We get two newspaper. We live several miles from the Santa Barbara/San Luis Obispo county line. Neither one of them is doing well. Like you say, the papers are smaller and more and more stuff is being cut out.
Times are tough out there.

I go crazy trying to find something on the radio in the evenings. During baseball and football seasons I can't even get Milt Rosenberg's show on WGN. I can't understand the appeal of having dozens of sports talk programs all day and all night. The polarizing radio talk hosts are disgusting, thinly-disguised rabble-rousers. I'm also not always interested in what's being broadcast on the FM fine arts program.

Neither DH nor I watch any commercial TV except news and weather. We do record some PBS programs, and the DVD player gets lots of use.

Our Chicago Tribune declined to barely worth reading, but is staging something of a comeback as far as content. Finances are another story. I'm sure we'll all be getting our 'print' online before long.
