could not find it on the sear's web site any longer. must have discontinued it. i have both the stain fighting formula, as well as the one with fabric softener. i don't notice much of a difference between the two, cleaning or scent after washed.

Mara, I bought a 32+ lb tub of it about a month ago at our local FL store. There were plenty others stacked against the wall. It was my first purchase of it, and I was talking to the salesman re: which kind to buy. He didn't mention that this one was going to be discontinued. I will be disappointed if they do d/c, it works great!

I just went to the Sears website and typed in 'detergent' and they came up.

elbits, did you see the Stain-Fighting formula at the Sears website? If so, could you post a link here?

mistylea112, I'm afraid that what the salesman told you is true. I may have to start buying a bucket as often as possible to stock up.

plumbly22, thanks for the links! Unfortunately, the one for the stain-fighting formula is not the HE formula, which comes in a bucket. But I do appreciate your effort.

I bought a box of the stain-fighting formula about a month ago and while it does not say HE on the front of the box, it does give specific instructions on using it in a FL machine. The box says "Powerful low-sudsing formula". I haven't had any sudsing issues while using it in my FL.

Thanks for the info, Tracey. Are you referring to the box plumbly22 linked? I'll definitely check into this whole matter at my local Sears store as soon as I can get there.

Yes-the last link plumbly provided is the detergent I have. Another forum member alerted me to the fact that it can be used in either a FL or TL because it's a low sudsing detergent.

I found a lone 275 load bucket of Ultra Plus Stain Fighting Formula HE (orange lid) at my local mall Sears. They also had a 125 load box marked HE. The sales guy said that's their best selling detergent, so it would be "daft" for them to discontinue it. He hadn't heard that it was discontinued.

I had resigned myself to trying the formula with FS, but can now put that off for another 275ish loads.

It's the little things that make life good. :)

yeah I would be sad if the stuff were discontinued. when I last bought some over a year ago there were stacks of it in the center isle. I love the stuff it cleans well and being single it lasts me so long its just crazy to think how much money I must be saving by not buying a jug of tide that doesn't do even 30 loads every 3 weeks for $7 when I get 275 loads for $25. if I could get a deal like that on downy fabric softener I'd be so good to go.

It seems I finally have an answer about this.

Last week I bought some Sears Oxi-Clean Formula on sale at my local independent Sears dealer. I noticed they had all the buckets EXCEPT the Stain-Fighting Formula (orange lid). When I asked the owner about it, he said Sears is changing the formula and will bring the new formula out soon. I hope it will be at least as good as the original.

So that's what it is. I haven't been able to find it either. They must be eliminating nonylphenol ethoxylates (NPEs), which a Consumer's Report article from last year claimed were ingredients in Sears detergents, even though most other detergents stopped using them long ago. Either that or DeSoto finally went under and Sears had to contract with a new manufacturer. I'll bet that they will eventually reformulate all of their detergents or simply drop the ones that aren't big sellers.

This may be good or bad. Guess we will have to wait and see.

I didn't know about that, buzzley - I learned something new today. I'm really glad I bought two of the orange-lid buckets when they were on sale half off in July. It will probably be at least a year before I need to buy it again.

I don't think it has been discontinued. Since I found this site I have read so much about the sears detergent. I had been toying with the idea of trying it. That caused me to go back and forth from their website several times. Finally broke down and got some last week and have been very pleased.

Anyway, I noticed that they changed what they had available on their website from time to time. It seems to disappear particularly during sale times. I got the big bucket of the Sears stain fighter on sale at the local sears even though it was not on the web. I think when they run low or run out they take it off the web. Give it a couple of weeks or till the end of the sale and check again and it will probably still be there. I can't see them discontinuing anything that they sell out of so quickly.

happymom, the guy at my local Sears store says they're still selling the original buckets of stain-fighting formula as long as they're available. Obviously, some stores will have more of it than others. Then, he says it will come out in a new formula. I have no idea whether it will still be in a bucket with an orange lid, how much the new formula will differ from the original, or if the cost will change. I wonder if the change in formula could be due to new regulations? I didn't think to ask about that.
