Sink to use in 24' wide cabinet

I will be redoing my kitchen soon and plan to use a 24" sink base, with Silestone countertops. Would like to use an undermounted sink, but my research so far turns up that I won't be able to use a sink any longer than 18" due to the space that the clips take up. If I go with a drop in sink instead, will I be able to use a longer (say at least a 20") sink? Using a 27" sink base not really an option in my small kitchen. Thanks.

We put a nearly 24" wide undermount sink into a 24" sink base in our last kitchen. We had to rout out the left and right inside walls a bit to get it to fit. It was resting on the cabinet frame (instead of being attached with clips), so in order for the counter to sit flush with the surrounding cabinets, we also had to rout out the top edge of the sink base where the sink would be sitting. None of this work was very difficult, and I was thrilled to have a big single bowl 24" sink in a small (for a sink) 24" cabinet. So check out sink dimensions and look at mfr drawings - there are many you can make work.

The only drawback we could see to doing this is how difficult it would be in the future to swap out the sink because it is sandwiched between the counter and cabinet. On the plus side, you don't have to worry about the sink falling! heh heh.

My Elkay 2115 undermount (21" wide bowl)is in a 26 3/8" cabinet (interior 24 7/8") with room to spare beyond the clips. Not a lot of room, but room. I think my only regret in this kitchen was not going for the 23" Kindred and doing a sandwich installation.

I did the same as jraz with my undermounted stainless steel prep sink installation, routing down the sides of the cabinet by the thickness of the sink flange to sqeeze into an 18" cabinet. I don't anticipate ever having to replace the sink so I didn't worry about it getting sandwiched between the counter and cabinet.

I have a small kitchen, and my sink cabinet is only 21" wide. It could have been 24", but I preferred to steal the extra 3" for the bank of drawers next to the sink, as they're the only drawers in the room. I have an 18" x 17" x 10" (interior dimensions) sink, and the sink and cabinet are both working out fine. The sink is big enough to handle even my largest pots and pans. I used an InSinkErator Evolution Compact disposal, and still have room in the under-sink cabinet for all of my cleaning supplies (although they are pretty packed in). Your decision really comes down to where those inches will be of the most use to you. I knew I'd rather have more drawer space (my old kitchen only had one drawer! never again!) than a wider sink/sink cabinet, so it was an easy choice for me. If I hadn't thought that an 18" x 17" sink would be sufficient for my needs, though, I would have gone with the larger sink cabinet. Have you been able to see the sink you're planning to use, and get a feel for whether it will suffice for you? Do you know what you'll be storing in the end cabinet, and whether 12" would be enough space for that?

I am happy with my 25x19 inch sink. We are a family of 4 and dh is a chef, it has worked out perfectly. But I have nothing to compare it to. I have never had the huge sink. The quality of the sink has been wonderful. It is made by Kindred. I searched high and low for one that would fit a 27 inch cabinet and give us the most space. I think they usually come 23x17, but I found this one that is 25x19. I did purchase the sink grid and love, love love it! It wasn't cheap. I found it on Faucet direct and they gave it to me for $280. Now on most websites it is listed around $380! And that doesn't include the grid. I think I haggled with them to get the price down! It is 18 gauge, 9 inches deep, and the drain is a little toward the back which I love. Radiant/silk finish. If you want some pictures to get the idea of size let me know. My backsplash was just grouted today( a year and a half after the kitchen was done!), so I have to clean up a bit! Good luck

Is there a 24" wide stainless steel farmhouse/apron-front sink that can be installed into a stand-alone cabinet? I would like to use one of my laundry room, instead of a stand-alone ABS/acrylic-sink-cabinet unit. I have looked at the Zuhne 24" apron-front stainless steel sink. It looks like it must be installed next to counters if it's installed flush or built-up. I think you can use up to a 23.5" sink in a 24" sink base. When we were looking our KD said to make sure the sink was at least 1/2" narrower than the sink base...

Do you have a KD? I'd ask him/her...s/he should know.
