remember this tree?

Well, the top 15 feet sheered off and fell in the back yard. thank goodness it missed the fence and it is not close to the house. All the snow and then the freezing rain today was just too much. So many trees fallen over and so many HUGE branches breaking. My beautiful tree!

Standing outside we could hera trees breaking all over. Sounded like gun shots. And very dangerous!

What a shame to lose such a beautiful tree. Stay safe and warm.

We had a very bad ice storm here a number of years ago. It's just heartbreaking when you sit inside and here pop and crash all night long. We have a number of huge pine trees in the back and unlike some other trees, they don't rejuvenate themselves. When a limb is gone, it's gone. Every time I heard another crash I just winced in emotional pain. The good news is, nothing hit our house. I hope this storm passes quickly for you and that you fare well.

Ice storms are not good or are heavy wet snow. We lost our trees due to a fire after we sold. We had a Christmas tree outside, about 20 feet tall. All gone. I probably would have cried if I still lived there.

Oh, I'm really sorry Kat. I know how you feel, have lost several trees here due to ice storms. None of my trees were as pretty as yours though.

Oh, I was admiring that picture on Facebook. That's tough to lose the top.

What a shame! Nothing you can do to prevent that.

One of the worlds oldest trees recently burnt to the ground here. It was called The Senator and believed to be 3500 years old. The cause is unknown. Might be arson, might have been a smoldering lightning strike.

In October we had 9 inches of snow and it did so much damage to the trees around here because there were leaves on them. We lost more than we have in the 30 years we have lived here. I'm sorry you lost part of your gorgeous tree. I have a friend who lives off the coast of Washington and she was telling me about your weather.

I'm sorry about your tree. I, too, love trees - even to the point of writing poetry and a short story about them. Probably everyone does care about trees, but when you're familiar with them or hear about one that was really old when it died or was destroyed, it becomes very personal. Stay safe. Kat Black

I grew up in Buffalo, which was famous for its' trees. If you were in a plane approaching Buffalo, even just a few years ago, you would know you were close when you saw forests below. Then in October 2006 (or maybe it was 2007) Buffalo got "The October Surprise" snowstorm. Lots of snow fell, I think about 2-3 feet and settled in trees. Branches and limbs broke off and many, many trees died. The landscape changed forever. On my mother's street, people cleaning their yards piled the limbs at the curb and if you drove down the street, it looked like a canyon. My Mom lodt her favorite Plum Tree. Very sad. And, of course, it looks different from the air.

A couple years ago we had a bad ice storm. All the trees and power lines were covered. A couple days after the storm a local lady and her family were out clearing out their drive when a branch fell and killed her instantly. So sad..
