anyone in Michigan dealing with......

All these campaign calls? I have had it up to my eyeballs. We get one every 15 minutes or so. Long pause then a recording. They have even got it down to putting your name at the beginning, like Judith.... this is senator....

We vote tomorrow, can't wait until it's over.

Yep! Even worse, we're in Florida and I had all the house calls forwarded to my cell phone! That was a mistake in an election year!

Ok, located the name& # of a lady that monitors the trail at Hoffmaster state park, the guy I talked to said she does have some active nests yet but he did not know anything further. I will see if I can find someone that works the trail at the Boy Scout Camp. Get with me ASAP

I have these same bugs in my yard, along with two trees that drop rabbit pellet-like seeds from their seed pods. The pods look like paper lanterns. I am in Southern California. Is there any way to get rid of thes bugs? I am not fond of the trees as they make a HUGE mess when they drop their leaves and their pods, but they do look nice 5 months out of the year. The rest of the year they are just long, bare trunks. I am being invaded by these insects! Can anyone offer any advice as to how to get rid of them? I don't want to use insecticides as I am in the process of planting raised vegetable beds in the vacinity.

sraehelen Have DH get out of the kitchen unless he can be retrained! LOL I do all of the cleaning here as DW has not a clue. How scratched is your sink? I found a product which makes your sink like new. It's called Scratch Away. I found it at Home Depot. I don't know where you live but the link is www.micro-surface.com They even have a product to remove the surface scratches in fiber glass tubs when a cleaning person uses a green, 3'M, scrubbing pad on it and all of their products work well. I have tried them all as I own a cleaning service. There are 5 grit pads with an abrasive liquid and you start with the roughest grain and work down to the finest working with the grain of the sink. Caution, do not use this in any other Kitchen appliances. They will not be able to take it. The sink will look like new. 3 years ago I hired people for a party to do the heating of the food and the clean up. $400 later the only thing they did was to do the dishes and ruin my sink. They didn't know how to work a broiler, convection oven, or the 3 micros'. It was a waste but when I looked at the sink I was going to replace it. This product saved the day. Give it a try as it does work. As to the day to day cleaning there was a product which I had found at a county fair when I was 21 or 22. It was called Astonish and made in England. I will be 55 in June so that was a while ago. This stuff is great stuff! This cleans the sink like nothing I have ever used. I has an abraive but after you use the Scratch Away you just use this for the cleaning. Just have DH do it as he will show the sink to all visitors. Both products are great and would spread the word. Please ignore any typing mistakes I am having a problem with my motor skills. I do know my cleaning stuff though. Get rid of the Comet! LOL

Anyone else dealing with scoliosis?

I have scoliosis, too. Mine is the classic "Dowager's hump" on my back - causes jackets and coats to "ride-up" in back so they must be altered. When I was a child, there were no checks for it and no braces. A woman at my pulmonary rehab had hers become so severe that it affected her lungs and digestive tract (when one is bent over, everything becomes all "squished" together). That scared me so I went to see a local world-famous back surgeon. He told me what surgery would be like - first one gets cut on one side, is bedfast on the opposite side for several weeks for the surgery to heal, and then is flipped over the the final surgery is completed on the other side. Altogether, at least 3-4 months in a hospital or rehab facility. Well, that didn't sound very practical or appealing! So I went to a neurosurgeon and he said that surgery should only be done on the young with VERY severe scoliosis. But he did prescribe a course of physical therapy (paid for by insurance) that would help me strengthen my "core" and the muscles in my back and improve my posture. It doesn't "cure" the malformation" but it prevents the other problems walking and sitting all bent-over will cause. I went and I continue to exercise 3 times weekly (at my own expense). I can't do quite what I once did due to age/progressive worsening of my pulmonary function, but I'm not all bent-over and that's a very good thing. It's highly inheritable and fortunately neither of my children and none of my grandchildren have inherited it.

An election?

What's that?

Actually ...

... all they're doing is vying to get into the starting gate ...

... so that they can then run against the selected ball carrier for the other party.

And imagine the millions that it costs to go through all of that rigamarole ...

... and guess who picks up those tabs ...

... and without expecting some benefits in return???

Actually - we may have a federal election before long, as we have a minority government.

If the three opposition parties agree to vote against the government when they present their budget ... that's a "confidence" motion, so if it fails, the government's gone ... and we'll have an election.

The second since the one in June 2004 - and the ones who are responsible for bringing it on may pay at the polls.

Many saying that they were elected to do a job - so just get on with it!

Some claim that we have often received the best government when the governing party held a minority of votes and had to accomodate some of the wishes of the others in order to get the legislation passed.

Finance minister's making big talk of cutting taxes for corporations ... which they did, earlier (along with small cuts for individuals - and some opportunities of increase of reduced-tax, or even tax-free, income for the wealthy).

I spoke of one of those opportunities for over 60% increase in tax-free income (over $46,000. annual ammount) on one of the finance-related forums here, a couple of months ago.

Hope you all survive the election fever with your sanity (not to speak of patience) intact.

P.S. How often have those messages given you the opportunity to make a comment, ask a question, etc.??

Have you asked those enthusiastic callers how come they are so interested to call you before an election ...

... but don't seem to remember your name, let alone phone number ...

... after the election?

Maybe a good idea to keep a log of the number of calls, find the phone number of the constituency office and tell them how impressed you are, then offer such information.

Or make a visit there, same message.

And with thick enough skin to resist/avoid being dragooned into helping (makng phone calls, maybe?)!
