HGTV Dream Home opinions?

I do like the location. Not in the wilds of some mountain in the Carolinas or in a swamp like the last two years. I do really like the exterior.

But after HGTV's incessant preaching about neutrals, the livingroom is blue, the next room is rose, the dining room is red, the master bedroom is Kelly Green..wht??

And I was particularly repelled by one piece of art - looked like a brown/grey/black smudgy backround with the outline of a body drawn in chalk?? I checked to see if I was watching Law and Order.

But I am now educated to the fact that trendy couples not only need their own bathroom sinks but also their own separate refrigerators. Wait till I tell DH!

I think the outside of the house is charming and pretty, then when I see the inside I'm instantly dissappointed. First with the drapes that hang in the doorways. I don't get that. They are so out of place and they are too long. Can you imagine how long they would stay clean if you actually open and closed them?

One thing that struck me as odd was why did Kim decorate the kids room for a boy and then make believe it was suitable for a girl also? That was a big mess up on that room I think.

I hate the great room I think it is, that has the leather sofas, one just below the TV??? I don't get that either.

The other thing I noticed was they had 5 or 6 candle sticks on a tiny table that was suppose to be a coffee or end table. Now who in the real world would fill a table with all those candle sticks? The decor they have is not realistic or pretty. I'd have to go in there and redo all the decor because the majority of it was "thrown" in there with no thought.

For once I wish they would let Candace Olsen decorate their Dream House. Then it would truly be a dream.

Is this house located in a flood zone? It is wine country after all, where the floods always seem to happen.

scarlett...lol, I thought the same thing about that creepy piece of art on the wall. I wonder what they paid for it.

Fun! I think last time we posted about this we said the cash wouldn't make that big of a dent in the taxes. HGTV says the total value of the prize is $2,000,000. If you subtract 250k cash and 50k for the car, the value of the house and furnishings are around 1.7 million. Sell the house for 1.5 million, pay the realtor 90k, pay 750k taxes and you end up with 660k cash plus a 50k car. I'd be thrilled with 660k and a brand new car but the financial reality of the prize is sobering.

It is most likely discontinued since it is a few years old but I did find it described as "The blue-and-white marble and glass-tile backsplash". https://www.hgtv.com/sweepstakes/hgtv-smart-home/2019/hgtv-smart-home-2019-laundry-room-pictures. I also did a search for white marble and glass tile in a barcode style and came up with this option which I feel sure looks like it. I find the interior to be underwhelming, full of tired trends, dreary, generic, soulless, boring. The very epitome of HGTV, I guess. ::Sigh:: But the worst thing to me — I don’t think they took advantage of the great views from inside at all. https://www.hgtv.com/sweepstakes/hgtv-dream-home/2023/hgtv-dream-home-2023-tour-pictures The outdoor areas are nice, but that’s due to location.

I would remove the large dried flowers arrangement on a wall in the dr, it would probably be at the curb on garbage day; I really like the unpredictable decor, the edginess of the contemporary art combined with a basically traditional decor, but I really don't think this will go down in history as being a favorite for everyone, it's not mainstream enough.

It still would be easy enough to edit some of the decor , repaint a few rooms; artifacts and doodads can be put away or shifted around.
I do hate the clock over the door in the study, it has a glass piece attached to it with flowers, I've never seen anything like it.

It's always fun to bash the dream home, no one owns it yet, lol.
