Gas Furnace replacement 80% or HE, venting/zoning etc

Home in MA. ~2000 sq ft. 2 zones. Forced hot air furnace - existing furnace is Rudd? 100K BTU (about 28 years old). Need to replace the furnace. Have received conflicting information and am looking for advice.

Our basement is partly finished. The furnace and the water heater today use a power vent to the side of the house (the pipes go through the finished area of the basement and have been boxed in).

(1) Venting. A couple of the folks said we'd have to replace both the furnace and the water heater since they would take out the existing power vent and use that location for the new pipes. A couple of others say to vent through the garage (the current location not big enough for all the pipes). A couple even suggested that we go with an 80% efficient furnace to avoid these issues and lower cost.

(2) Thermostats, We currently have Honeywell thermostats with Troll-A-Temp control panel and dampers. A couple of the guys said that there is no way this will work with the new high efficiency furnace - we have to replace the zoning panel, dampers and thermostats. One said that this might work, but if the air backs up, the furnace could go over-limit and shut itself off. The other two think we could hook up the existing panel and dampers to new two-stage thermostats.

Advice please? Is venting pipes through the garage acceptable? Or should we avoid the whole venting issue and just go with an 80% efficient furnace? What about the thermostats/zoning system? Should we attempt to live with the current zoning panel/dampers and a high efficiency two-stage furnace OR should we just bite the bullet and replace it all?

We've been in the house for 20 years. Don't see ourselves moving out any time shortly. Would like to get a good system, something that we shouldn't have to worry about for the next 10-15 years. Doesn't have to top of the line equipment - just reliable.

Oh - that's the other thing - each guy recommended a different brand of furnace ! Lennox, American Standard, Goodman, Carrier, Rheem !!
