Shower curtain rods - decent quality

I noticed in our one bathroom I didn't wait long enough to put the tension rod back up and when moved, it tore the paint off. Which got me thinking...The rod in the bathroom we use all the time was a really cheap chrome looking tension rod and it looks pretty terrible right about now so I should change it before we paint. I was considering ORB but how does the finish hold up from the rings sliding? I'm fine with something chrome but would like it to last longer than this one. Any suggestions? Have you found that a $30 rod pretty much the same as the $15 rod?

I don't want a curved rod.

After digging around online I found someone recommended a heavy brass rod from this company but it's rather pricey, IMO.

Just be sure you get one that is not expandable. The rings get hung up where the 2 pieces meet.

I had nice non expandable rods in my previous home that still looked new after 10 years. Now I have inexpensive chrome ones that need to be replaced because they look terrible. The expensive ones were much nicer!

I have a Moen single curved rod. I've only had it for a month or so, so it's too early for rust. However, I purchased it based on very good reviews, both here and on Amazon. I was originally planning on getting a straight tension rod, because I needed my head examined. I had this notion that drilling holes in my new tub/shower surround tile was too heinous to consider. I even talked myself into thinking that the straight rod provided enough room while taking a shower. That may be sorta true. I'm small and don't fling my arms around a lot in the shower. I would have been fine and not emotionally scarred. I finally had a moment of reason and let them install the curved rod. Not, mind you, until I'd been very scientific about finding the exact sweet spot for its placement. It is wonderful. Seriously. The shower feels quite spacious in width with the curtain closed. I also like that outside the shower it doesn't look at all strange or bulge-y. Almost like an optical illusion. Don't worry about the point where the two sections of rod meet. There's a little plastic thing that slides over it and if you use rings with ball bearings, they slide over it without a hitch.

Ginger vs. Gatco: shower curtain rods and grab bars

This is a followup to my earlier question about the quality of shower curtain rods. After looking on line it seems that Ginger are the absolute top of the line. The are solid brass and have fine design details. Gatco is less expensive and has more limited design details but is also solid brass. Has anyone had experience with these brands---Gatco in particular. Many postings on various products sing the praises of Ginger but I can't find much on Gatco. Any opinions or experiences would be most welcome. Thanks.

I've never had a curtain rod rust, even in the bathroom, alhtough I have had shower curtain rods that have rusted. That is very odd. The wood rods were certainly work. Overstock has some indoor-outdoor rods that are not supposed to rust. Plastic would work, too. Here is a link that might be useful: curtain rod

I agree, non-expandable is totally the way to go. They last for a long time and look much nicer, and don't catch the rings! We had a straight one in our last home that I ordered on line. Have you considered a curved rod? I just got this one, and it's fabulous... adds a lot of space inside while showering, and looks really nice, too :)

I brought home a few from Lowes/HD to try that were in the same price range, but expandable, and they felt and looked so much "cheaper".

sheesharee, I have the ginger shower rod (the empire style). It's been in use for 3 years now, and we're really happy with it. Very solid, and the finish still looks like new. I remember being shocked at the price at the time, but I couldn't find anything else that looked like it was in the same ballpark quality-wise.

I got our Ginger rods on eBay, still pricey but they remain shiny after four-ish years. Much better feel and look than the previous tension rods.

When redecorating our bath, I put up a permanent shower rod.
I'd always had a tension rod.
I found the rod on ebay and bought the matching end pieces somewhere else. All in all it was about $70 but it's all solid brass. I expect it will last many years.
I should have done this years ago.
