Days all mixed up

I'll be glad when we get back to a straight Mon-Fri week with no holidays etc. Today seemed like Sunday all day and I almost put out the garbage .

Minnie, all day today I too thought it was Sunday. I think we both lost a day somewhere or somebody took it. LOL

Thanks, webkat! I agree, the top two may not be a pure strain, what with cross-pollination risk, although the zebrina one looks pretty pure. Also, I haven't read a really good desription that would distinguish braveheart from mystic merlin. I guess I'll just offer seeds as a malva mix. Also, I'm all set with pure seeds of zebrina from that neighbor, so that's nice. :)

sunny, is it compressed? We did veggies in containers this year and bought something called ProMox, which was in compressed blocks. The instructions aid to wet it before putting in containers. It is also like cake. But this mix had some vermiculite in it already, but not too much. I'd add about 1/4 pearlite to lighten it up and help with drainage. We also added some black kow, which is composted manure, about 1/8th. I'm also planning on topping the pots off with compost as a mulch once the pots warm up.

gourds- all mixed up

I don't have pictures, but most gourds leaves are similar. Especially, bottle, swan, snake gourds are almost identical. Also, these gourds have white flowers that open after the sun goes down or the the sky is heavily overcast and cloudy. All ornamental gourds have yellow flowers that open during the day, just like squashes.Ornamental gourds have bigger leaves, like squash. One more thing: Probably you know that all cucurbitas have separate male and female flower. The female flowers have a tiny fruit under it, which when polinated will grow, otherwise it will fall off. Even from this tiny fruit you can tell what it is. For example, a birdhouse(bottle) gourd should look like a bottle gourd but very small. Most ornamental gourds have some color and patterns from eaerly on, while those with white flower are plain and light green.

mixed light in my garden has me mixed up!

What you need to focus on is: what the light conditions are like during the plant's growing season. For most (but not all!!) plants that is the spring-summer season, especially spring. So if areas of your yard are quite sunny in the spring-summer-fall months, you'll want to put plants there that are sun lovers that do their growth at that time. To clarify with an example, I've got roses (a sun loving plant) on the north side of my house. They are in total 100% shade in the winter, but in nearly full sun the rest of the year (because the sun is higher in the sky). Since they are mostly resting in winter anyway, shade at that time of year is just fine and does them no harm at all. Of course, there are some plants need sun at all times (some cactus might be an example), so if you keep in mind what the plant needs, you'll be able to adjust.

I've been sleeping odd hours lately too. Working in the early morning hours some days and sometimes later. Yesterday I decided to go to the weekend breakfast buffet at Old Country. Normally when I there I only go there on Sundays for some reason. Usually meet some people there. After eating, I decided to go see my cousin. Started thinking he'll be reading the Sunday paper ads. And I passed a meat market and it was open! I was surprised. What are they doing open on a Sunday??? I was pulling up to his place when it hit me it was Saturday, not Sunday! Gettin' old ain't all it's cracked up to be!

cynic I don't think getting old has anything to do with it. We are deluged with info these days and there is always a projection of "next Week" available on such a such date. Tune in on xxx date, TMI
