Anyone still enjoying 5th Grader?

I still watch every week and now have it set to record the series in case I forget to watch. Still fun, still can't answer all the questions, and still love it. Anyone else?

I must be honest, I don't like it at all, but I'm glad you are enjoying it. It's nice to follow a program and become a bit involved in how it works. I'm a Jeopardy girl (or is it just Alex I like?).

Laura, Thanks for the info on the sedum, I checked mine again this afternoon and still no signs of growth, but several remaining old stems seem to be snug in the ground so will wait and see if they come back this year. If you aren't sure of yours this year, don't try to divide any of them. You sure don't want to lose such a beautiful sedum. I posted a pic on the "name that plant" forum to see if anyone can identify it for us. Janice, So glad you are coming again. If you can get a pic of that unknown plant, you might want to post it on the name that plant forum and see if they can help identify it. I'd love a division of your autumn joy sedum, and if you have more than 1, Jean would love one too, (my elderly neighbor across the street that comes to the swap). It depends on what seeds you are thinking of starting as to whether it might be too late or not and if you are going to WS the outside now. We had some flooding as well, but nothing near as bad as other parts of town did, and my WS seedlings did just fine. I will have some tomato plants for the swap, just not sure which ones or how many I will have yet. Some seeds are still germinating but most of them are up and growing. Coffee cake sounds wonderful for the swap. Perfect for morning with some coffee that will be there. Fran

Oh about 7 half pints. I was thinking of using instead of (or with, if you think it won't be hot enough) the Hinkelhatz I usually use in the Gold recipe. I just have to label that batch as the extra-hot version. I'm surprised that Southington farm does enough business to bother growing bhuts, though at $1/pod it doesn't take many to show a profit. I wonder how many takers they have? I sold 1 Hinkelhatz this year, a few years ago I had a young vendor boasting he could handle heat and I gave him a really small one, he cut off a piece with his jackknife and ate it, started gasping and sweating. People around here just don't know hot. DH shrugs at Hinkelhatz, I'm going to try the Aji Limon (if that's what it really is, it's Burpee seed but looks right) on him. I don't know if he could handle a straight bih but he might enjoy the jelly. I just made a batch of salsa, I usually put 1/2C of hot (serrano, jalapeno) and 1.5C of sweet peppers in a 6 pint batch, this time I put 1C of each and the jalapenos were hotter than usual, that should be enough for him but I think it's going to be too hot for me. It was very unusual this year, I had a ripe orange (?) jalapeno, even the green Jalapeno Gigantes seem extra hot, but this one almost blistered my lip when I touched it to it to see if it was a hot or sweet (my sweet orange minis are more flattened than conical though). I'm saving seed from that one ;-) As usual, I didn't wear gloves and the fingertips on my left hand are sill tingling though the lip/tongue aren't any more.

I've been lurking this thread since it was started and following along. I love reading all of the posts and even revisit a few now and then. Like some others, I have a lot of work to do to get where I want to be. I'm confident I will get there eventually though because I really want it. I started my "new habits" back towards the end of January. I didn't tell a soul because my family has a way of taking over the process and making it even harder than it already is. I selfishly just wanted to do it with and for myself and it's really made a difference. No guilt trips, no cravings and it's been easy to just say, no thank you when something is offered. I didn't make a plan or find a diet, I just stopped eating anything that could be remotely described as "junk". No fast food, no sugar, no snacking. I stopped cooking in the evenings; I only eat if I'm hungry and I only eat enough to feel comfortable regardless of the portion on my plate. I started buying ready made salad from our farmer's market because I buy veggies but never get around to slicing and dicing. It's a chore I just hate to do and I procrastinate till they rot. Freshly made on site is expensive, but it's so worth it! I eat some carbs even white, but instead of counting every calorie, I use the points assigned to foods in WW as a guide to balance out my intake. So far, I'm down 19.5 lbs and one pant size. Three weeks or so into my new size and now they're starting to feel a tad baggy. Next challenge, more exercise! Great thread JTL, it's nice to see the support between every one and some of the tips here are really awesome! Thanks for starting it!

Yes, I like it a lot. I still don't believe all that stuff is actually covered in the first five grades, though.

Do first-graders actually learn about macrame, for instance?

PS: I also like Don't Forget the Lyrics, which follows on my station. I don't know any of the lyrics of those songs (I would ace the old jazz standards, though), but I get a kick out of the contestants and their performances. And I love the MC....even more than Alex Trebec, although I'm a Jeopardy fan, too. :-)

Sometimes I feel soooo smart when I know most of the answers, then there are other nights.......... Of course, I like Jeff Foxworthy so that goes a good ways towards liking the show.

We record it every week and I watch it with my son.
I pause on each question and give him a chance to answer.
Sometimes it leads to interesting educational discussions.

I think the kids on that show are WAY above average academically.
The questions may be 5th grade and less,
but the way they phrase them makes it really hard.

We love the show.

I was a teacher in my former life and I do enjoy this show. That does not mean I answer all of the questions correctly! There seems to be a "shelf life" regarding my memory.

I watch it each week. In the first hour tonight I knew all the answers with the Dallas fan except the last one; and now I can't even think what it was.

I was talking to a Middle School teacher a few days ago as we were waiting in the doctor's office. He said something to the effect that kids in kindergarten are being taught what used to be first grade. Also that it is all just memory work, not concepts, etc. He is not at all happy with the way children are being "educated". We've all heard that: teaching to the test, and getting them on to the next grade.

Just another way we have dumbed down.

One of my favorite shows! Those kids are so cute and smart. I usually get many of the questions right but sometimes have no clue. Tonight I was trying to watch the Duke basketball game at the same time, so I missed the endings. Maybe there will be reruns. LOL

I thought it was fun tonight but didn't expect two hours. I was waiting for the Don't forget the lyrics show (I think that's the name)
