To glaze or not to glaze - my cabinets (and white or cream?)
Comments (11)My only advice is to think ahead if you will have other whites in your kitchen, especially the trim. Trying to match whites is the path to insanity, lol, but it's good to make sure everything is complementary before you start (i.e. have either warm or cool tones but not both). I have off-white cabinets, white tile, and white trim, all of which are different shades; but it looks fine together, at least to me. (The trim molding attached to the cabinets is the same color as the cabinets.) So whether you use white or cream-colored cabinets, think a bit about your countertop and backsplash and paint first to be sure you'll be happy with the direction it's all going. Otherwise white vs cream is just personal opinion. I am very happy with the off-white cabinet color in our kitchen; it's not as far from white as "cream" but it still fits with the rest of our warm-toned interior. I am not a big fan of glazing but again, that's just my opinion (it wasn't an option with my cabinets anyway so I can't say I have thought much about it)....See MoreKraftmaid painted cabinets
Comments (42)I know this is an old post - my fiancé and I are currently working with a KD to renovate our kitchen with Kraftmaid cabinets. I really HATE white cabinets, so she suggested biscotti first with a cocoa glaze - then in the showroom I thought I saw it, and she promises that the one I saw in the showroom is actually canvas with cocoa glaze. But now looking at everyone's photos, and searching online, canvas seems SO white! She gave me a tiny piece to bring home and I immediately said no it's too white. However in the showroom, it looks so great. Can't tell if it's because the lighting there is so low. We have major natural light in the our kitchen - almost the entire one wall is open with windows and a slider - and are installing a bunch of bright LED high hats too. Will it look too white? More photos would be wonderful if anyone has canvas OR biscotti...I'm really having second thoughts on canvas and leaning toward biscotti again......See MoreThomasville vs. KraftMaid Cabinetry
Comments (48)Do NOT use Home Depot or Thomasville. Home Depot forgot my toekick drawers despite being asked if she included them 5 different times. She said they were ordered. When my cabinets came in there were no drawers. I immediately went back to HD and the same designer lied and said my cabinets were too heavy for the drawers- i had pictures ftom the website with my ordered configuration. 2nd problem is Thomasville - they have shipped defective product 4 times now. Their shipper lost 1 shipment for a week and today they never showed up with the 4th attempt to give me usable cabinets. Even with a specialist agent from Thomasville I can't get this resolved. I ordered the cabinets 8 months ago. I could have special ordered cabinets for the same amount of money and had my kitchen back together by now. RUN to anyone else although I've been told Lowe's is even worse....See MoreWhite with cocoa glaze or ivory with cocoa glaze?
Comments (19)Gamecock43, If you love Glazed, get it. Offering glaze for free is only free if you really want it. Visit a few more cabinet makers and get a feel for what makes your heart sing. Get what you love and you will be able to negogiate a free something or a discount. In fact start thinking about free upgraded plywood drawers. You are so wise to check out the options for yourself. I am not an IKEA fan. Oh dear, I just unleashed the hounds who love IKEA. IKEA looks beautiful and IKEA is rated high in consumers reports but like your husband I have found the service to be unhelpful. The warehoue mentality. If you are close to an IKEA (I am not) you can get exactly what you want IKEA can be awesome. I truly believe your husband was not ill tempered or even the cause of the poor service at IKEA. I have felt the poor service and I consider myself to be a kind person so assume others will be too. Not the case for my DH and I at IKEA. I urge people to look for a cabinet maker or woodworker who can help you make any brand cabinets look great in your space. Someone to make the trim, edges and help fit those cabinets into a space to make a kitchen. Crystal cabs are my favorite but next for me Thomasville, Kraftmade, Yorktowne, Schuler or Medallion ( I think are the same company), ...In time you will find the ones you like.
