I would not do a cocoa glaze with light painted cabinets. Why do you want glaze? I didn't think anyone still did that sort of thing with light painted cabs. Did your kitchen sales person sell you on it? Maybe it up's their commission? I do like glaze on med or dark wood cabs for extra depth but on light painted cabinets it looks dirty.

Could you clarify, "canvas" is a painted color and sort of a warmer white? You then want to upgrade to cherry wood, have them paint over it in a canvas color and then apply a glaze?

KraftMaid makes a paint color option called cavnvas. It's a cream white versus bright white. An additional option is to add a glaze over this paint (on maple) to give it a warmer look with darker tones/depth in the creases. They offer an alternative option with only cherry wood to add a 'vintage' touch to the painted canvas which has rubbed corners for distressed marks which I love - but this requires an upgrade from maple to cherry which increases our budget big time. I guess my question is - does the glaze just make it look dirty? I'm going for a bight, clean look.

What does the rest of your house look like? Do you have any pictures?

Just went to a Big Box in town and snapped some pics for you. These displays are at least 3 yrs installed, and obviously not undergoing normal wear & tear. And the lighting wouldn't reflect the lighting in your space.

That said, the seams are readily visible in mitered corners versus straight corners.

The display with the cocoa glazing is definitely darker ("warmer" or perhaps even "heavier").

I answered you on your other thread about glazing or not. I just had to say that the first set of pics Tmy just posted look dirty and make me twitch for a scrubbing brush to clean them. If you're afraid of your kitchen looking cold, make sure your cab paint color is a warmer off-white instead of a cold white. Feel free to ignore my opinion though. It's JMHO and this is YOUR kitchen. :)

Have to agree with breezygirl, the canvas w/cocoa seem to be asking for a good scrubbing.

I just went to another Big Box up the street and looked at the Kraftmaid door sample (this store doesn't have a full display set up with those colors). The sample door looked the same. I even wiped my finger over it thinking it had to be dirty.... nope. The brownish tinge was part of the finish.

That said, I'll swing back by the first store tonight with a cleaning rag in tote to see if that helps.

There are several Kraftmaid linen and white that have been posted on here, and glazed as well. Linen reads white but not glaring or cold.

In fact, it might be nice to do a google image search.

I wish I could find the one I am looking for, though. She had a galley kitchen and I'm almost positive she had linen cabinets. At the end of the run, there was a glass upper with glass on more than one side, and on the lowers, it terminated with one of those triangled cabinets. Bleh, been looking for over an hour now and not finding it!

Ok, just back from the initial Big Box, and even after cleaning, the Canvas w/ cocoa glaze don't look much "cleaner".

Rebeccamom123, I feel for you! I was the one who a similar thread last week -- the link listed in your other post today about glazed cabinets. Although I don't like heavily glazed cabinets (and on those, I do agree with the comments that they look dingy or dirty), I also do NOT like the stark white cabinets that look cheap, imho. I took my husband to see some white cabinets that were installed recently in our development and he didn't like them at all! He strongly dislikes them, so much so, that he is now preferring stained cabinets. (Ugh!) I've had 4 kitchens with stained wood-toned cabinets and they all felt dreary to me. I was really wanting a lighter, brighter kitchen. At this point, I'm really torn, and just not sure I would like plain white cabinets after the first year or so. Good luck to you! I wish us both well on our kitchen journey! :)

Rebecca - I just came across this for my kitchen (possibly...) and thought I'd share. I've found several photos over at Houzz where the white cabinets are glazed with a gray glaze. It's very subtle, and not dirty looking at all. I really like it! LOVE this kitchen! This may very well be my "Happy Compromise" inspiration photo for my kitchen! :)

I just LOVE the glazing on most cabinets. It adds another dimension to the cabinet. I am not a compulsive housekeeper, so maybe that makes me more agreeable to the glazing!!

Okay, you guys are amazing! I'm new to this site and let me just say - I feel the love! Tmy - to think you took time out of your day to take pics for me - a virtual stranger? Amazing. I have three kids - my youngest is autistic and doesn't do well out and about so the time you took back and forth with photos is SO appreciated!!!!

That said, that last pic you posted post "cleaning" looks downright grimy to me - especially in the corner of the drawer. So, that decides it for me - no glaze. Off to research cab brands that offer a linen color paint. I do love the gray tones too but I think the grey tones tend to be a fad right now.

Well, welcome to the forum! There's so much experience, expertise, and good old fashioned help available here.

I routinely hit 7 Big Box stores(4 Lowes, 3 HDs) in my area every weekend. Measuring, planning, dreaming, etc... taking pics for my own use.

I initially took the pics to show the painted seams, not paying attention to the cocoa glazing... until breezygirl pointed it out... I thought "that can't be right"... so curiosity got the best of me.

I mentioned on your other thread, and in the 2nd set of photos, the Canvas (no glaze) really look nice. Soft, clean, not at all cold.

I can get additional photos of that particular display if you'd like... no problem at all.

Springroz, I'm with you! I love the cocoa glaze! I have a very country style home and I think the plain Canvas cabinets would look too stark. I love the antique look and the glaze hits it right on the spot for me! I'm on a kick now of buying used furniture, painting it with off-white chalk paint, distressing it and then adding a brown glaze to give it that "aged" look. So the cocoa glazed Canvas cabinets will definitely fit right in! We order our cabinets next week and I can't wait!

I am remodeling soon and picked Canvas with Cocoa Glaze. I have loved it since I first saw it. I have not ordered yet and all the talk on this thread about it looking dirty scared me. I am happy to hear that I am not the only one who loves this look!

Cocoa glaze is beautiful! It will only look dirty if you don't use the right complementary color! For instance, don't pair it with canary yellow ;-)! My husband and I installed these cabinets in a house we just sold and the color combination couldn't be better. It does not look dirty in the least!

Yes, I completed my project and I love the canvas with cocoa glaze! It looks beautiful.

I am so glad I did not second guess myself and change my mind. You will love it! I get many compliments on my cabinets.

I've just ordered the canvas with cocoa glazing and have gone through at least 8 different counter top choices and am starting over! I cannot find anything I like. Viatera Royal Teak looked GREAT with the cabinets, but too busy and outdated said one. Plus I have one wall of bricks which is really hard to find something to look good with that and faux colored walls?! Anyone? anyone?

I found a Corian color that looks nice, but I"m not a fan of corian. then I thought the Viatera ARIA quartz, but having seen a bigger sample online - too much gray.
