OR VOTE NO shades.

1) Stencil in a neutral color a pineapple [to match my pineapple light over stove] on plain shades like this bee one. This one is actually a cut-out. Isn't it cute?

2) French Country looking black and cream...

3) Love these metal ones and they'd match all the stainless but pricey...

4) just a black gingham check? pic below..

5) nothing

or something else?

Not wild about the bee cutout, although it is cute, just maybe too cutesy for your elegant kitchen. I think my choice would be #2 - I like the shape of the shade and it matches the style of the chandeliers.

I went ahead and moved the highboy and bed position. Bad news is that I don't think the daybed centered under the window idea is going to work as it leaves only around 20" per side which seems a waste of space. So then I will need to scratch my plan to use the panels--unless I can shorten them? I can get a top valance in either pattern--DD likes the sheer dots, though will wait to finalize until other items are finalized. I also had ordered a lime lamp in case it started looking like too much aqua. On the paint front, DD has one lime green accent wall now. I don't think the desk really works with color. If I keep furniture the present color I will need to go with a real light wall color--still sifting through my options here and will wait until my FLOR samples come in on the 13th. I feel a solid rug is best for her as her room starts looking very "busy" easily with all her paranephilia. I mostly want the rug to protect my hardwood floor (only three years old). Already there are 3 ink stains which I've mostly gotten out--but if there are any stains, I'd rather the rug is stained and not the floor. I didn't much care for the desk next to the dresser as I had before so moved it. I do like that oak hutch bookcase for the storage, may keep it awhile or swap it out with the new bookcase at some point. I can definitely say I am glad for the additional storage of the highboy since DD is a pack-rat! Old dresser will go but am keeping there for now since it has all her clothes. So, what do you think in terms of furniture layout? No where else for the bed really if I want to have access to the trundle. I did find another bed couple of daybed options on CL. I'd rather not paint this one since it's part of a set. DS has other bed. Funny I've toyed with painting his black, but can't seem to paint either because it's a "set." Either of these grab anyone? Would paint the wooden parts. Wooden one with slats. Oh yay! I'm so glad that it worked for you! I thought that it might. I also do not love the ball at the bottom, but for the price you really can't beat it! It's very light, but comes in a huge box. The shades are paper (I believe) and there are candles underneath. Since it's still pretty much boxed up, I can't tell you how it would look without the shades (I didn't open up the shade boxes). I was thinking about the same thing. My husband said he could live with the brass as I was going to get the nickel one (really for him). By the time we decided on the nickel, they were all sold out everywhere. I mean everywhere! So, I got the same one you got in the same finish for less on ebay. I thought for the price, I could spray it too. FYI: I called maaco and they quoted me 125 to spray it chrome without a clearcoat 185 with. Just in case you didn't want the hassle of painting. Thanks for the replies! It's going to be over an 8'x46" bausman english country table. We're gutting the kitchen in our new house. I-beam header to blow out the kitchen/dining room wall, so the table is going to be next to the fridge, pantry and a hutch- Brookhaven cabinets; vintage lace color- off white, actually an opaque stain, but NOT yellow. Brushstroked but not glazed; picture of hardware on the hutch I think will look good with the light is below (all hardware will be this finish from Ashley Norton); black granite; We'll have a row cans in front of the cabinets, parallel to the table, so functional light isn't much of an issue. There will also be two Hudson Valley Pelham pendants, 2210-SN, over a nearby island. The shadow pattern of this chandelier may be cool! For cleaning, I was thinking feather duster, but compressed air sounds good, too. I'll take looks over maintenance concerns. I think I'm going for it.

I do like #2 a lot and it's affordable [yeah]. So far 2 votes for #2.

Any more opinions?

Otherwise, I'll go for them. Thanks for saying my kitchen is elegant! LOL.

I don't like the shape of #2 with the shape of the chandelier. The fabric is nice though. The shape of number one is great but the color isn't.

I actually like them bare in your photo.

That's what I originally wanted but so many people here and in real life asked me what shades I was getting like I have to...so it made me think I do.

I don't have them on my dining room chandelier.

Maybe I'll live with it longer and see...

Kitchen is still not done yet...

side note. I received a gift basket from the granite company. How nice is that!

With a single chandelier, the shades would be a charming accent. With two chandeliers, it would be a bit overwhelming unless they are very very simple, which none of your choices really are. Plain simple black or cream linen might work.

I think I like the gingham for the chandys. Wait what am I saying???? get the bees of course!!! ok, I like the gingham, or perhaps a plain cream one.

You will be amazed at what happens when you add them to your light, it will aim the ligh down and you will see the chandelier so much better. Are you buying them locally or online? If locally, then you can try them out and see what you like.

Your kitchen is looking unbelievable! I can't believe the changes you have made. How much do you miss that old light fixture over the island?

bee...LOL...I can barely remember it. Can't believe I was getting used to it. Yikes!

I'm not trying to be contrary, but I do think that it's not that shades aim the light down, but that they limit the light up. One thing to remember is that you'll have a lot less light in the room with shades.

One thing to find out from the people who ask about shades is if the light is bothering their eyes. It might be too bright in there!

I think plain linen would give you the most light, while covering the bulbs. And away up there I don't think they actually need trim. Simple is good!

I ordered them. Can always return. And I don't want to take away from the chandys. They're on a dimmer and it makes a huge difference not to have them on full blast. I think that is the problem.

I'm glad it doesn't look unfinished without them.
