Jalapeno poppers

We all know what the search function is worth on this site. I searched for poppers and got some dips. Appreciate that. But I've got these big ole jalapenos from the farmers market and I'd like to learn how to make poppers. Otherwise they will go on the grill.

Appreciate the help!

technically this isn't a popper, it's also NOT fried.

Serve with a spicy queso dip

12 unpeeled medium-size fresh shrimp
12 fresh jalapeÃ±o peppers
6 slices bacon -halved lengthwise

Peel and devein shrimp. Cut a slit in each jalapeno pepper; remove seeds and membranes. Carefully place one shrimp in cavity of each pepper. Wrap each pepper with 1 bacon piece and secure with a wooden pick. Place on a jelly roll pan. Broil 5 1/2" from heat for 6 to 7 minutes on each side, or until bacon is cooked. Serve warm.

I bake them on the two-part broiler pan that came with my electric stove. The fat from the bacon drains nicely

Yeah, I don't like the breaded, fried ones too much either. I like them stuffed with a mix of cheddar and cream cheese, wrapped in bacon (1/2 cooked...or the pre-coooked Oscar Meyer etc. works great) and grilled. Adding shrimp sounds great too! Mmmmmmmmm mmmmmmmmmmmm. My peppers aren't in yet...might have to make a stop at the produce market today!

Georgiahomegarden, those look great! First time I heard of poppers was on the Pioneer Woman's blog. I've never made them, but have tried this popper dip. Do you can? You could make hot pepper jelly. If you decide to do that, let the jalapenos turn red first. Makes a prettier jelly. This is from the Closet Cooking blog. I've made it with all fresh jalapenos and with roasted anaheims. Popper Dip 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese (room temperature) 1/2 cup mayonnaise 1/2 cup grated cheddar cheese 1/2 cup grated Parmesan 1 (4 ounce) can sliced jalapenos I sub all fresh jalapenos ... about 5 or 6 depending on size 2 jalapeno peppers (chopped, optional) 1/4 cup panko bread crumbs 1/4 cup grated Parmesan Mix the cream cheese, mayonnaise, cheddar cheese, Parmesan, and jalapenos in a bowl and pour into a baking dish. Mix the panko bread crumbs and Parmesan and sprinkle over the dip. Bake in a 375F oven until bubbling on the sides and golden brown on top, about 15-20 minutes. Serve with tortilla chips.

3/4 cup water 1/3 cup sugar 1/4 cup corn syrup 3 tablespoons pectin 2 teaspoons cornstarch 1 teaspoon vinegar 50 drops or 1/4 teaspoon red food coloring 1/8 teaspoon onion powder dash cayenne pepper dash garlic powder dash paprika 1/4 cup minced red bell pepper 1/2 teaspoon minced canned jalapeno peppers 1. Combine all the ingredients except the bell and minced jalapeno peppers in a small saucepan. Whisk well. 2. Set saucepan over medium/high heat, uncovered. Add peppers and bring mixture to a full boil, stirring often. 3. Reduce heat and simmer sauce for 5 to 7 minutes, or until thick. Remove from heat and let sauce sit for about 10 minutes. Stir and cover. 4. Use sauce when it reaches room temperature or cover and chill until needed. Makes 1 cup

I still have some wild rice stashed away. I think I'll try this recipe. SAUSAGE AND WILD RICE CASSEROLE (Serves 6-8) 1 pound bulk pork sausage 1/2 green pepper, chopped 1/2 cup chopped celery One 4-ounce jar diced pimiento, drained 1 cup wild rice 2 teaspoons chicken seasoned stock base One 10-1/2 ounce can cream of mushroom soup One 2-ounce can sliced mushrooms, drained 1 medium onion, chopped 1/2 teaspoon marjoram leaves 1/2 teaspoon thyme leaves 1 cup grated Cheddar cheese Cook wild rice according to package directions. Or, spray an 8 x 8-inch pan with cooking spray. Rinse rice with cold water and drain. Spread in prepared pan. Cover the rice very generously with boiling water. Cover pan with foil. Place pan in a cold oven. Turn oven on to 450 degrees. When it reaches that temperature, turn the oven off and leave the rice in the oven overnight without opening the door. It will be cooked when you get up in the morning. Brown sausage in a large skillet. Add green pepper, celery, and onion and continue cooking until vegetables are soft. Drain off excess fat. Add remaining ingredients, mixing well. Stir in cooked wild rice. Pour into a sprayed 3-quart casserole dish. Cover and bake 45 minutes to 1 hour at 325 degrees or until heated through.

This is a good recipe for Jalepeno Popper Spread (from allrecipes.com - see link for reviews) INGREDIENTS (Nutrition) * 2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened * 1 cup mayonnaise * 1 (4 ounce) can chopped green chilies, drained * 2 ounces canned diced jalapeno peppers, drained * 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese DIRECTIONS Stir together cream cheese and mayonnaise in a large bowl until smooth. Stir in green chiles and jalapeno peppers. Pour mixture into a microwave safe serving dish, and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. Microwave on High until hot, about 3 minutes.
