Thinking steak salad...

Have to go buy a new coffee maker...and pick up Kam from an overnight at a friends..

Stuffed Green Peppers in the oven = happy hubby. I don't like them, so he doesn't get them often. I'll pick at something in the fridge.

Some roofs are failing--like ours--and water is currently pouring down the walls in our business office! The roofer is in there now, trying to fix it. BTW, we took our house off the market until spring. We're taking a mental vacation! Do you think you could send me the 3 foot tall version of the St. Joseph statue for when we put it back on the market???? LOL! I wish your hubby was here to sell it for us. I'd feel a LOT better! Let me know when you go to S.D. if you go in the summer. My in-laws live right by there; I'll fly down and we could rendezvous for a NON-FAT latte. Definately worth the air fare! DonnaSNJ: Most of the Biggest Losers DO NOT maintain their weight. I just read an article on them and it was very disappointing (and sad) to me to read about them and their weight creeping back on. It's a lifetime of a lifestyle---it's HARD! Milkdud- I'd go to the gym if there was a buncha guys there to help me work out!!! I tend to gravitate toward firefighters more than police officers though...(giggle) Okay, ummmm, things I'm doing for me: 1. My family bought me a light box for Christmas and I'm on my 3rd day of using it. It's so dark in the winter on the rock and I live in porched house with very tall trees all around. I cannot tell if the light box is working for a few more days, but it makes me SIT STILL for about 30-45 minutes a day! I actually look forward to it! The light is VERY bright and I like it. 2. I started using Slim Shots and it seems to help to curb my appetite. You can google them if you're interested but basically, it's a combination of oat oil and palm oil in a little cup the size of coffee creamer and you drink one with brekky and--if you want to--one with lunch. Anyway, it seems to help me a lot, so we'll see how it works when the psychological effect wears off in a week! 3. I am also keeping a food diary. I discovered I eat a lot crunchy food like rye toast w/ butter and veggie bootie when I'm stressed---and I am still snacking on the CRUNCHY FOODS when I'm bored, upset, or feel like I want to be a bad girl. I realized from the diary that I was drinking WAY too many lattes per week. I have stopped going to the latte drive thru---BUT when I have company--not very often--it's sort of a Northwest tradition to have a coffee with friends! I also have a late night eating habit that I need to curb. Soooooooooo, I've lost a pound since starting all this and hopefully, a downward trend on the scale will continue. I am making small changes and don't want to DIET because I just set myself up for failure. I will add in some exercise next week and continue to reinforce my 3 New Year's habits. I want to add water, but the water here is positively putrid to drink, and I hate buying bottled---ideas? I watched a great movie last night: PEACEFUL WARRIOR. A must see!

Happy Thursday! Got part of my plant order picked up from the post office today. I was panicking thinking they shipped everything - too early for the whole order. I've ordered the oldest type of roses that deer don't like (hopefully same with rabbits). Got 4 Salet Moss Roses (pink) and 2 Apothecary (dark pink) roses. These are the old prickly stemmed roses that smell like heaven. At least today and tomorrow until late afternoon the rain is taking a break. I have to plant these now. When I'm not ready in the garden of course. It's okay because they are foundation plants - pink roses along the east side of our house where we're having our sitting area built up and terracing the sloped side a wee bit. The last pink rose bush and the 2 dark pink I'm thinking of planting down in the vegetable garden area where I've started my herbal garden while in the trailer. I want to build that up into a sitting garden over time. Just taking a break for the moment. Just washed out and reinstalled all the batteries on my outdoor solar lights (new last year for the trailer life). I'm glad I had the sense to bring them in and tidy them up in the fall. Things are not cheap anymore - these are those newer white light ones. For the moment many are in use to mark off the terracing for the east side garden. It's just dirt, small rocks, lots of roots from ripped out old growth lilac gone wild, sumac and weeds starting. I feel so sleepy hearing the billion frogs in the wet areas calling for mates, song birds fighting over nest areas and signing at the top of their lungs. But the sun is sheer delight. I'm taking photos of my progress on the gardens. Eventually I'll get them posted in a blog that I'm hoping to do for my garden adventure around here. I've picked up rhubarb that is growing and current bushes/vines?. Grapes too but not sure where to plant them. They are supposed to be planted now - judging by the speed of light they are growing at in the hall. They'll hate me when I plant them outside - I know. Wow, I can see the golden eagles over the fields outside - guess they're sizing up dinner. The trees still appear barren. A couple more weeks I expect to see buds. I'm glad to read the posts. I guess it's slow because everyone seems to have so much to attend to right now. I'm still working on drinking my water and desperately fighting the urge to nap. I'll take that as a sign to fill my water bucket now and get those roses in the ground. Enjoy your day...I need light and fresh air. Maddie~ Forget about the rant...nhsuzaane is right..We ALL have had rants here. It helps just to type away and press "post"--very theraputic. Plus, let yourself enjoy the support. And now, I'm going to have a little rant of my own... Maddie, On the job...I have no doubt you like (maybe even love) your job, but there is way too much "job" and not enough of you. Start looking for another position. Even if the auditors find you need more manpower, the company still has to find the funds and get the authorization for it; that could take a long, long time. Right now, it's not a priority for them to help you even learn your job...why would they be motivated to get help for any time soon? Start job hunting now. And BTW, you don't have to find a job at what you went to school for---find something you LIKE---what happened to your auctioning dreams? Or real estate? When we toured that KY mansion together, you really impressed me with your vision on property renovation! You would be a gem in the customer service end of a high-end real estate biz! And you know so much about the history of KY! And---you take on WAY too much in all of these jobs you've had. Take some time and find a job that fits YOU. Enough of this Super-Woman-Set-Me-Up-For-Failure-Cr@p. You are a very,very nice person, but you are taking on too much---because you're TOO nice! You do not have to save the company---just find a job, work as hard as you can, follow your job description, and save money for pleasure vacations and retirement, and BE YOURSELF! Maddie, everyone enjoys being around you. I loved every single minute I spent with you. Your humor, your easy smile, your warmth, and your perky red-headed personality should land you whatever job you want. Please ask yourself if what you're doing is really what you want to be doing...or is it just what you trained for and you don't want to "waste" that $ and education. Perhaps this is why you choose jobs that are so difficult. Do you really want to be doing what you're doig??? People change over time and maybe you should think about your OTHER talents and find a "fun" job to do for a while-one that take advantage of your PERKY personality, your persuasive manner, and natural good looks-instead of your brain! There is nothing wrong with *NOT* having a brainy job! Look at meeeeeeeeeeeeee! I CAN FLY! (and feel like Peter Pan half the time!) Sorry this is so long, but I really think you deserve to be happier. It makes me sad to think your employer doesn't appreciate you or give you the type of working experience you deserve. If the last person was miserable and now you're miserable, buy a paper at lunch and start LOOKING for a new job...try looking in the customer service ads...or real estate! We kept busy. We were out at the grocery store at 6 am....they had some door-crasher specials (grapefruit 4/$1, cartons of oj for $1.39, bananas for .29 lb and Kraft peanut butter for $2.88 for 1 kg). Hubby defrosted the freezer and organized it, and I washed the apartment halls and stairs. I also did 2 loads of wash and hung them out on the line, and some other piddly things. I made a casserole for dinner that BeeOhio posted in the casserole thread.....buffalo chicken and potatoes. I'll definitely make it again and tweak it a bit more.

Still good grilling weather here in Nor Cal, so I've got two flank steaks marinating, one for tonight's dinner and the other for sandwiches tomorrow. Tossed green salad with balsamic.

Georgysmom, you can't beat the price of the costco chickens. I usually get enough meat to make 3 different meals for me and DH.

We went out to dinner tonight at a place we have never been before. Pecos grilling company in Tomball. I don't eat steak but husband loves it so he had the porterhouse and baked potato, I had fried pork chops and baked potato. Omg I have never seen so much food on a plate. There were 2 enormous chicken fried pork chops a good sized potato and onion straws. I couldn't even eat half of one pork chops. My plate when I was done looked almost like I hadn't eaten! I have enough food for 3 meals left. I wish I had taken a picture of that plate. It was fantastic and extremely tender, great breading.
Hubby kept making mmmmm sounds lol he ate everything on his plate and said he wants to go back there for his birthday which is this month.

I haven't been eating much since I have been sick this was good but way more than I could ever eat.

My guess is we will be back.

Ang, I like the insides of stuffed peppers..but we don't eat them..I've never made them either..and I like peppers too...hmmmm...wonder why I've never made them...cabbage rolls the same way...

Gmom, who doesn't love Costco roast chicken? Lol...I even make stock from the carcass..makes my $5 go even further. ;)

Flank steak! Done right..yummy...

Now wait a minute are you talking noon time meal or evening. Cause to me dinner is noon meal and supper is what I call the evening meal. Which I know a lot of people who do call the evening meal dinner.. Now that is straight in your mind I baked up 5 old hens that I butchered yesterday. Which these are grown 100% organic or free range. Bluntly NO COMMERCIAL FEED. The taste is oohhh sooo delicious. I really can't stand the taste of a store bought chicken anymore. So dinner today was baked chicken cottage cheese and string beans. Now for the interesting part. I take all the meat off the bones and place them in small freezer container Not a lot of meat to each container since their is only hubby and I. Then I cover the chicken with the broth and freeze it. After it freezes I pop it out and put it in the seal a meal, label and date it. When spring and summer comes and I get busy gardening or building our greenhouse and don't have time to cook. I'll take a pkg of my frozen chicken out of the freezer and heat it up, then I can make either chicken soup, chicken and noodles, chicken and rice, or chicken salad, or well you get the idea. There is a lot of different foods I have made in large quantity just for the quick meals I'll have on hand. The seal a meal will not seal liquid so in the state of being frozen it works great. Why don't you leave it in the plastic container?,, you ask.. Cause that container can get knocked around in freezer and crack. one more reason the seal a meal removes all the air and the air is what really causes the freezer burn. This way it can last for up to 2 years. One other food I like to cook a lot of is my home grown turkeys. After the butchering is done and the meat has cooled I take it all off the bone raw grind and mix it with bacon, make patties and grill them after they have cooled place them in seal a meal bags. usuallly 2 to the bag. Then in the winter I can have grilled turkey burgers without going outside to grill Wanted to share that with you all tonight.

Lucky you to have the ability and the desire for raising your own food! I wish I could raise more..I have a friend who does and I buy from here when she has extra.

Dinner, as I have always been taught,
is the main meal of the day, no matter what time.

Dinner is my main meal, daily, around noon each day.

Oooh Glenda.. yummy...yesterday I was given a treat bag full of homemade peanut clusters...and left them in my desk..

Those would be good broken up and stired into ice cream.....

I used the carcass of a Costco rotisserie chicken to make chicken and rice soup yesterday so today I added some left over sauerkraut and ham and it was very good.
I also made some potato salad but was too full of soup to eat any.....Roy said it was good. He loves potato salad so I will have to try some tomorrow to see what it needs.
I added some organically grown purple radishes and some sugar snap peas to it and some grated organic carrot.
I love getting the CSA box!

I too believe dinner to be the main or larger meal of the day; usually evening except for Sunday, that one is around noon.

I had one of my favorites: a grilled cheese sandwich. I use Healthy Life* whole grain wheat, low fat bread, with 2 slices of cheese with strawberry preserves between the slices. I treat myself with a coke when I have that. *Kroger and Target have this bread; maybe other stores do too. Comes in 1/2 or whole loaf.

I can't think that I have ever seen a half loaf..great idea though..

I like a grilled cheese..but with strawberry in it..interesting..

Well hubby is now asking for something to eat..it's almost 9pm..

Wind is picking back up..I am baking toffee chocolate chip cookies..
