It's super heavy! I bought an Elkay (18) gauge before the Ticor, and I could tell the difference in the weight between the two, but I didn't actually weigh them. I kinda wish I did now! I have the s112 and a smaller prep sink, and compared to the Elkay and the Eclipse; which I saw in person at the fabricators, the Ticor was noticeably heavier and more coated on the bottom, as well as much shinier and nicer looking. Maybe you could check out your approximate sink in another brand's 18 gauge to see if you think there is a difference. HTH!

SouthernStitcher....your mom sounds a lot like mine! All the kids wanted to come to our house b/c it was the "fun" house and my mom was always feeding everyone! I have fond memories of the various KoolAid flavors...we each got to choose the "flavor of the day" on a rotating basis...even some of our friends got to pick! My mom also has a SS sink...not quite 50 years old (maybe 30 years...)...but she was just commenting yesterday that when she remodels her kitchen she thinks she'll keep the sink b/c it's in such great shape. I don't know what "brand" it is, but I'm not sure it matters much if you get a sink from a reputable manufacturer. ++++++++++++++ If you do a search, you'll find a lot of threads about sinks...depth, grids, single vs double, SS vs fireclay vs cast iron vs granite composite, etc. Here are some things... If you will be under mounting your sink, the depth will be the depth of the sink + the thickness of your countertop. So, my sink is 9" deep with 3cm (~1-1/4") granite. That means that my sink is approx 10-1/4" deep. The taller you are, the harder a deep sink is on your back b/c you have to lean over farther to get to the bottom of the sink. The larger the ledge in front of the sink, the more you have to lean in to get to the sink. Sink grids will raise the bottom of the sink up an inch or so. They also keep things off the bottom so that it's easier to rinse the sink (items aren't sitting on the bottom blocking access to the drain), they're flat so things don't tilt, you can drain dishes on them w/o re-immersing them in dirty/soapy water, they protect the bottom from scratches, etc. You'll find this information and a lot more if you do a search. Search one of two ways: (1) Directly in GardenWeb. Use the search button on the bottom of the thread list page, not the the top of the page. (2) Using Google or other search engine. If you do it this way, be sure to specify "site=ths.gardenweb.com" as part of the search (at least for Google).

A big thank you to each of you who posted! Buehl, I checked out the sink you have and it's wider than my sink cabinet, so that one won't work for me. :-( I read about your baking marathon session. My new stove also has the option of convection baking and that is something else I need to learn about. It was good to read about your experience. cilantro, the sink you mention is also too big for my sink cabinet. I think that the S105 is the largest I can go, but I will be confirming this with my KD next week. Mustbnuts We were part of a CSA for several years and loved it also. We didn't renew this year because there we so many veggies that were part of the share that we were not eating (too many green leafy things for us). But I will really miss the Jersey tomatoes! I did wash my veggies in one side/bowl in my double sink. That feature is handy. holligator, thanks for giving my your thoughts on your sink grate. I keep wondering if I will be constantly having to lift it out of the way when I need to clean up the sink/rinse the kitchen scraps into the insinkerator. Old1880home, Your sink looks lovely. Just to provide another viewpoint, I love my huge Blanco Performa 50/50 sink. The bowls measure 20" by 15" and are 10" deep. We hand wash all of our cookware and use the dishwasher only for dinner plates. I do have a separate prep sink, the Blanco Precis, which measures 20" by 18". The prep sink is used only for prep work and I love the single bowl for that. We did get a sink grid and it comes in handy during my weekly fruit forays at the grocer. I like to wash, rinse and then let all the fruits drain in the sink to dry on the sink grid. For whatever reason, I don't seem to have trouble washing things in my double bowls. It is correct that cookie sheets do not lay flat in the sink, but I have never needed them to in order to get them clean. All of these very strong opinions must have something to do with a person's individual clean up style. The neat thing about my Blanco under mount sink is that the divider between the two bowls is an inch or two lower than its sides, so rinsing off large items isn't an issue for me (the water stays in the sink). I have worked with a large single bowl sink and it didn't work for me. I like to scrub one or two things at a time then rinse and hand to a house elf to dry. So, with a big single bowl, I'd scrub a few things, then run into a quandary when I needed to rinse, since I didn't want to add more water to the sink. It would probably be okay if I only had a couple of pots or pans, but when I cook, I tend to create mountains of dishes. So the single bowl does not work as a cleaning process station for me. As far as a the uneven sized double bowl sinks go, the small one is always too small for me because I do like to scrub a few things at a time. Also, the asymmetry just fundamentally bothers me. It reminds me of the Vanishing Twin Syndrome. What are the people using the small side for exactly? I know I would always be gravitating toward the bigger side, so then I'd have unequal usage of the 2 sinks, which would then lead me to the conclusion I should have chosen the larger single bowl or the double bowl. Be that as it may, when trying to decide between which sink layout is best for you, it really comes down to how you personally use the sink.
